GIRO FIXTURE HELMET REVIEW

Looking for a solid "do it all" helmet that offers incredible value for money?
While the GIRO FIXTURE (MIPS) has been around for a while, we couldn't find a review that really did it for us. We thought we would try to change that!
Having ridden, joberg2c and Wines2Whales stage races, Enduro Western Cape enduro events as well as multiple trail sessions, we've certainly put this helmet through it's paces!
This is our take.

This helmet saved me in a big way today, the helmet cracked, my head did not.

I can confirm. I shouldn't have a head right now. Thanks Giro for the fixture. Helmet cracked, head didn't. and I may or may not have so much faith in it that im still using it.

Good helmet. I can recommend it! Only thing which is missing is bug net in vents ( i had it in my old Uvex). Considering some DIY... Good review! Thanks!

I'm on my 3rd Giro Fixture helmet now, its saved my head & life twice. The worst crash I had was when I was thrown over my bars and my head was slammed, at speed into a deer cattle grip. The right side of my temple was smashed against the steel bars of the cattle grid, If I had not been wearing my helmet I would have been dead, of that I'm certain, the helmet cracked and did its job. Considering the cost its a no-brainer (excuse the pun) PLUS I have a huge head & Giro do this model in XL, so its one of the few helmets that fits my oversized skull. I can wear a beanie under neith and have room for my sunglasses. I prefer a helmet that protects all of your head, including the back and the temple regions. Road helmets do not offer enough protection. Plus this helmet is a MIPS.

@@romanordunez3095 there is a bike shop in my town, went there yesterday to get gloves for me and my sister and helmet for me, my mum and sister, it was 54.99 but very good price for protection, comfort and fit!

We use a normal sticky mount on the top rear of the helmet.

Bought one it arrived but I keep thinking that there is to much space between my head and the actual helmet (specially in the back), is it normal ? My head has 57 cm, the helmet is from 54 to 61. Maybe it's a bit to big for me.

I got one and my head was too big for it. I normally wear an xl around 61-62 cm but this hits the corners of my head so if your head is in the larger side just be aware.

is the piece big enough for a 60cm head ? the shell is 61cm ? i wonder if people with 54cm heads would feel weird because of the shell being this much bigger and having to adjust only the straps

Renato Queiroz it’s a one size fits all helmet but even that size curve will have its limitations. The best option is to try it on. The helmet is adjusted to fit via the boa at the back of the helmet and but just the straps.

@@WILDAIRSPORTS yes but I wonder if the shell is big enough to fit bigger heads. if it doesnt fit the shell would be attached to the top of the head because of the straps, and not really covering it, know what i mean ?

@@RenatoQueiroz1 The helmet looks good and It's very cheap but I had to return it to the store because straps were too short or my head is to big. In my opinion the helmet is not big enough for bigger heads.

@@InTeR-ReTnI That's what I'm running into. Something about the placement and fit of the strap is off. The helmet itself fits great on my large head, especially with the dual system. I'm keeping mine because it's the only one that fits and that is in my price range.

They do seem to have a very similar shape. We're not sure if they are an identical shell though.

How is the Fixture different from the Radix?

John Bruder we’ve not had our hands on the Radix but from what we can see online, the Radix looks similar in terms of its product positioning. It looks like it’s a lot more ventilated that the Fixture too. We will do our best to get our hands on one for a review soon.

The front straps are full of slack for me. I feel like a good headwind might flip it back off of my head. Otherwise I really like the fit and look. Not sure if I'm keeping it though.

Hi! We don't do a lot of road riding ourselves. The helmet is comfortable and offers good protection and it is well ventilated. If that is what you're looking for it should be fine!

For sure! It may not be as aerodynamic as most road helmets but the protection is adequate.

Unless one exclusively rides on the equator at midday, the visor is far too high to afford any realistic protection from the sun. Its lack of adjustability is shameful, and the reason why this is not a good helmet.

@@CommanderCrabapple this is not a comparison EP, this is a review of a specific item for a specific (South African) audience where context of the brand and its history is important for various reason. Perhaps we will look into doing a few comparative review EP in the future.

We are a completely self funded channel who seek to grow the sport through helping people make better riding, purchasing and training decisions. The Fixture is a great helmet in it's specific category. We give credit where it is due and we are not condescending to those who may choose the helmet based on how much money they have to spend. Value is a relative thing.
