How brilliant is this that we can hold a candle to today 14/08/20 and listen to this concert on Utube - on the day dear Julian Bream died .. and honour his death by listening to him play with SG - who in turn is honouring SG's friend and mentor Django ...

Two of my and music's most inspirational artists, celebrating the man, Django Reinhardt, who inspired us all. Julian Bream was a one of a kind. He began his guitar studies on a diet of Django's music as a child. This is a magnificent treat to hear them together, joined by Django's musical soul. We miss them all. Thank you for your art and inspiration. I'm certain, they're still doing it in heaven.

UNBELIEVABLE… I never heard Bream play Jazz - he even bent a note. I've always been blown away by his playing but I now have even more respect for his great playing ! Bravo Grapelli & Bream !

I am reading Julian's autobiography at the moment , Life on the road. I came here because Julian was mentioning how cross he was because he was supposed to play 7 mins of tunes ( Bach Prelude and Asturias) but Stephane ignored that and threw Julian into the den of lions so to speak with this and another tune with a larger band. Julian also mentioned he was very unhappy with the end because Stephane just went off on one! I think it was astonishing but Julian was not a happy bunny!!! I am sure all is forgiven though because 19 years later when Julian was on " This is your life" Stephane recorded a wonderful tribute to Julian which was played on the show. Julian was thrilled to bits. Later that year Stephane died so I don't know if they ever met up again.....

It's a blessing to watch these two guys performing this song. Very high level.

Both Stephan & Julian were great , artistically & acoustically. Is’nt it great when musicians, the like’s of which are not drowned out by an orchestra!

my late uncle brought back ,from ww2 a album of the hot club of france...I have loved them ever since...GOD rest you Django and Stephan and he other members of that group...Never to be forgotton

I was lucky enough and honoured to meet Stephane Grapelli backstage at a concert, as well as being an utterly fabulous musician he was a beautiful, gentle man - my eldest son, now 43, is named after him.

OMG!!!!!! Wow my favorite living guitarist and the late Stephan Grapelli. I love the way Bream does some of the open voicings using open strings with harmonics and putting the high note on the lower string. I started in Flamenco and then played both Classical and Flamenco till I went to study Jazz with the late great great Jimmy Wyble. He was to guitarists what Gandalf is to wizards. So I really appreciate the use of Classical guitar and Jazz guitar blending. Remember Bream played Jazz before he played Classical guitar. I did it the other way around. .

A quote Taken from Julian Breams Book "A life on the road" "The Albert Hall was packed, and the TV lights were phenomenal, but I got trough Nuages pretty well. Until the end, that is, where we had agreed that he plays a cadenza for twenty seconds or so, and then I had to come in for the last beat. So there I was, poised, watching, and he just went on and on and on. I thought, well, Jesus it was like a concierto he was playing.- the Bach Fiddle Chaconne, or something. There were double stops, treble stops chromatic and diminishes arpeggios all over the instrument. He was frozing about in all sorts of outlandish keys. At one point I didn´t think he was ever going to make it back to G Major. By this point the cadenza had been running I swear, for every second of three minutes. This was the biggest self-applied ego massage I´ve ever witnessed in public, and when the rapsodic neurosis finally came to a grinding halt I was emberassed out of my mind.. I just hit a loud chord of G Major and collapsed in a heap"

I saw Julian Bream when he played at my University, Stony Brook. I got to hear Stephane Grappelli at the University of Michigan. I feel very lucky. Here they are together. Major talents.

Thankyou, magnificent. A treat. I saw and heard Stephane Grappeli with Jean Luc Ponty in Seattle 1980 or '81. Partly on 'shrooms we'd gathered. I'm so glad I got to hear Stephane, then a vigorous 80- something.

Marvellous musical creation of two greatest musical talents, something to enjoye and to be remembered extraordinaries artistic personalities.

Grappelli only got better as he got older! Hard to believe but true! I know. I have listened to him for decades and had the honor of seeing him perform live in Chicago at the Park West nightclub.

I think Julian has a great jazz feel, not always evident when classical players play jazz.

WOW!! Saying that Grappelli is a virtuoso would be the understatement of the century!

If these notes were food, the world would never know want. Masters? Oh yes, oh yes and more. These two must have been somewhere, a single soul, to so blend their muse. I mean no criticism or shame to any other artiste when I insist with all my heart, they are ...the empyrean.
