Give Me An Answer with Stuart & Cliffe Knechtle

12 жыл бұрын

Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This was an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

Such wonderful discussion. I would have added one information to the talk, namely that God can be fully experienced on a level of faith, meaning without doubt, even if not always. It is when the Holy Spirit is dwelling in us, in that moment, God is leaving something so tangible, so touchable, so undeniable with us, that there is NO way, not to know. I also would like to add to the "Love" issue. LOVE cannot be explained for the most part in scientific terms, apart from what physically happens while in love, so can any SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCE not ever be explained by science unaided and would be in fact the most INSULTING way to approach one of our finest feeling we are capable of, love There is a LOT what we cannot explain by ONE measure alone. It is FUTILE trying to explain love, with the use of language alone, if one never actually felt love. We can only describe it by knowing through experience, not simply by having learned about its existence. We cannot bring love into being, by describing it in words. We have to undergo the experience of love with all its fulfil first, to be able to know what it actually IS. And therein lies the most common mistake made by people when discussing the issue of a personal belief and the way science is looking at facts of life, especially in spiritual areas. Just a short telling of my very first personal contact with God. I was at a time of my life not needing anything or anyone. I was after a life-time of despression and abuse supposedly freed from pain and became the happiest person I knew. But one day it hit me that we have this ability to think, yet NO knowledge of who we are, as in where we came from, what really happened in the past, as in truth and nothing else. And for a moment it was the cruelest thing I ever felt. How cruel to have the consciousness of of being able to think about my own being as what I am and not knowing for sure what is going on. I virtually screamed internally for the truth. on the 27th of August 2010, I suddenly and without WARNING perceived the presence of God, through the Holy Spirit. Yes, that God, who's son claimed to be the ONLY way, I personally experienced His Presence. And THAT was beyond my mind, beyond my thinking, beyond what I in fact could bear. I, the one who refused and argued against God all my life, fell immediately on my knees. Feeling this presence, this clean cut Holiness just SLIGHTLY near and I was on my knees, without ANY further ado. I came up against a Holiness, so pure that ANY, truly ANY sin was amazingly loud and abhorrent. A veil was lifted, a door was opened, and what I saw was not pleasant at first, as I had to look at myself in a way I never did before. I was EXPOSED and naked with NO WAY to run. What WE consider harmless, is horrid to GOD, ALL OF IT, even the smallest little lie is as great and horrific to Him as any greater sin such as murder. I felt the PAIN of the smallest lie within me, how abominable it is in truth, and how we are just have been numbed to it, so cold we have become. But take that lethargy away and we shudder. This may make no sense to you, but I have to state it anyhow for now. Oh we are capable of DEEP feelings. We get teary when we see injustice, and feel so emotionally for people who hunger, but it is never ENOUGH to get us out of our seats and actually DO something about it, but because we FEEL those deep emotions, we feel good, HUMAN. And THAT is where all problems in life stem from, this STICKY relentless hiding SIN. And that is exactly what I experienced in my first encounter of the Holy Spirit. I could not HIDE, ANY arguments were shattered! I mean ANY!!! All those reasons I pulled out of my sleeve, all my life, shattered, crushed. Here IN the Truth, there was NO arguing, no need for further clarification, as there was NO question left about my own truth, as about His. There was this utter presence and nothing else, but that was virtually unbearable. Guilt rushed into my system, the very thing I fought all my life against. I had rid myself so neatly of this old-fashion feeling within my quest for happiness and my believe that we are good and our evolving into better people and fully believed that we can learn as a race and on our OWN to improve. But here it was, a DEEP ALL-ENCOMPASSING guilt and I knew in this very moment of contact, through the CORE of my being, my whole body, mind and soul, even every single of my bones, that I was nothing, absolutely nothing but sin. I was selfish, all about me, all about a “Oneness” in which nothing is ONE but actually separated, with "Me" as the centre of all thinking and judgement, but neatly hidden behind a mask of light and love, forgiveness and even a form of godly perfection. A form of godliness but, separated from God. Sin makes everything SO tasteful, things which ruin and destroy us, even unto death, whispered by the master of lies, our main accuser at work. I was a good person in my own eyes up until now. But the way Holiness PERCEIVES is so astronomically different to our blind fallen state. Then I was shown a huge amount of former actions in my live. And I was ashamed to the core for UNCOUNTABLE things, like a star which looks bright and beautiful, but against the sun nothing is left to be seen. Even when I acted "good" was I ridden by secular motives. If you think that you are OK and that in your case there won’t be much to be ashamed of, think again, because you have stored large amount of excuses for your actions and we are very forgetful in regards our own wrong-doings. The closest I could describe this contact, would be as if your whole life is taken and OPENLY shown in ALL detail on a big screen to the public. EVERYTHING, what we said and thought, what we did home alone in secrecy when no one was watching. That was what happened to me in that moment, so many things I said and did were exposed without ANY possibility of hiding. Imagine NO way out, I was seen, brutally rawly seen. I wanted not only to run, but I felt my live was over, I was undone, I could not move. I saw the lies, I saw abortion for what it really was. I was shown my own grand daughter and given the full understanding that I murdered when I aborted, as if I would take the legs and arms of my grand child and would physically take her and tore her apart. The pain of the Holy Spirit toward such crime was insufferable. For a week I was filled with the Holy Spirit and in love forced to see deeper into who we truly are, when in proximity of Holiness, purity and true love. Whatever I laid my eyes on, whatever I heard people speaking was soaked in self. Everything changed that day. Everything!!! Without a shred of doubt or uncertainty, I CANNOT EVER deny who He was, nor what power He represented. God is pure HOLINESS, MAJESTY, and AUTHORITY, yes authority, a word I hated all my live as I was rebellious in that respect. But here I was undone that day and believe me when I say that NOTHING would have made me stand up ever again, if it would not be for Christ, so devastated and doomed was I. And of all things, I even understood FULLY in that moment that I deserved “Hell”, the one thing, I fiercely denied or ignored most of my life. I always believed in the goodness of people deep within and saw just mislead people, making mistakes. I did not SEE what we DO, what we truly DO when we lie, or speak in pride about another person as ugly or incapable or when we lift us up. But with the Holy Spirit, it hurts the heart as if a murder is committed. Oh if you would just know about the depth of love you feel, the depth of sin you see. How I wished I could share this just for one moment with you. And I felt ALIVE as never before. So much pain, so much truth to face, but I was ALIVE. 1 John 3:15 says: “Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer…” But once you have SEEN, you will never ever be able to deny, this WAS THE TRUTH, despite that doubt can hit you at times, as there are real active evil forces at work.

This conversation makes me reflect on "doubting Thomas" when he said, Jhn.20:25 "Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe." But when Jesus later appears to Thomas he tells him, Jhn.20:29 .... "Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."

You can't touch "2+2=4," but everyone knows that it is reality. You can't touch logic, such as the Law of Non-contradiction, and yet everyone knows that it is reality. The kid says that he "likes" the tangible, but you can't touch the act of "liking" either, which thoroughly belies the silly point he's trying to make. He's actually just being obstinate, in the vain attempt to deny God's qualities and activities, even though he knows for certain that they are factual. You may not have touched or seen God either, but all human beings know for certain that God's unique qualities and activities are factual, and this includes you.

The risk you are taking with Genesis not being a historical record of how God created the earth (which of course it is) could undermine the gospels themselves and the whole theology of salvation (original sin, etc...). You correctly treat the gospels as actual reliable history, but then attack the historical accuracy of Genesis. If you are claiming that Genesis is not accurate history, it calls into question all your supporting arguments that depend on the gospels being accurate history. The discrepency is enough to cause young Christians to question the whole thing. If Genesis isn't accurate in its obvious descriptions of one day being morning, night, who is going to believe that the gospels are accurate history? You can't have it both ways.

I guess I know people to well, or maybe I lack the tact that Cliffe has, but I could tell that guy just wanted to exchange opinions. He was not seeking & tipped his hand over & over that it was all junk in his opinion. I am not saying God may never do a work on him, but he hinted at the three main zero chance they will take you seriously areas. The historicity, physical reliance (materialism), & no anecdotal evidence (unless it is their personal anecdote). Once someone mentions all three, you can talk to them, but they have to drop at least one of those for it to take root. This guy was not budging & lead Cliffe a good deal. I guess Cliffe knows how to handle it better than I do, or maybe he is thinking on his next point. It is hard to say, but that kid was playing a close game, bating him, & lying by fact omissions. It is hard to see, but clear as day if you know the signs. God Bless you Cliffe for doing it, maybe the audience was moved.

@fellowservant34 those are very profound sciptures, the truth is, that God is more reliable than reason and sences, so those who trust in these things more than they trust God, have made themselves more realible than God, so even if they conclude that God is, they still have not made him God, So Christ's wisdom was beyond his time, or even this time when he said these things, that those who have not seen yet believe are blessed, because they have made God; God.

Cliffe needs to read that again about the bush. It was an angel and the bush burning. You see Stephen the first martyr after Christ died and rose again. Stephen in Acts explains. God called from the midst of the bush. Not the bush was god and the bush called moses. Specific reading there.

That first kid described a pretty ideal theory... wouldn't that be great if newspapers and other news sources only reported the facts? He also describes, well, some people's need to have more evidence. I know people who can believe easily and I see naivety because I'm more skeptical. I'm not so easily fooled by tricksters, but that also means I struggle more to believe in God.

+EstacadoConstantine Well, if you listen to what he said, he did kinda hint that he had doubts and questions and he wished he could have been there to see it for himself. Me to, that would certainly clear up a few things. All we have to go on is a few claims in the New Testament, outside of the NT there is practically no credible information that Jesus came back to life and then shot up to heaven 40 days later, for me Estacado, that story is rrrrrrrrrrrrrreally stretching my credibility to the limit. Good to see you watching another Cliffe video, I subscribe to his channel and like to comment on his conversations with the students. Interesting to watch the open talks. I obviously side with the students. I think it's good to ask lots of questions.

The first guy was presumably stoned before he started questioning Cliffe. But anyway, what I think is absolutely fundamental and what can be dangerous is when Cliffe asserts "you should thank God for the 2 legs you have to put in your stockings each morning". Should we thank God if we are born sick or disfigured? I am against postulating a God of perfection, this world is clearly evidence for his inept nature, which we must accept. @askcliffe If God exists, I would not with him to be the God of Islam, Jews or Christians. The God I choose to believe in, is one whom has made mistakes in creating us, given as freewill (another mistake) and who will at the end of our life welcome us with open arms for eternity with him in paradise. You can never say Jesus was meek and mild - he invented the idea of suffering after death, hell. As bad as the Old Testament was/is, the New Testament makes it up with Revelations.
@LightRevealsDark

@askcliffe I am completely sure God exists, I know this to be true. But the way God created us was rather callous and cruel, allowing disease to flourish during the very early centuries of man through the ages. Morality nonexistent until the Jews came to Mount Sinai. Moses, he of the tablets which said "thou shall not kill", the same man in the book of Numbers was incensed by the Israelites merciless restraint towards the conquered medionite people, and gave orders to rape and commit genocide.
