Give Me An Answer with Stuart & Cliffe Knechtle

13 жыл бұрын

Cliffe Knechtle has a dialogue with students at The University of Connecticut, April of 2009. This is Part 1. The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This was an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

I heard on one of Cliffe's video a guy yell out something after Cliff gave a rebuttal. He said, "aww man he's good. I don't like this guy but he's good." Well, I like this guy and he is good. I like the way he is meek and respectable. He has his own style, though.

What you guys don't seem to understand is that there's only so much a person can take when a person is trying to reason and people trying to take the piss not to reason with Cliffe on a intellectual level. I guarantee you that most of these people has not done their research as much has Cliffe has & yet Cliffe shows as well as admitting that he respect people's opinions as well as showing humility, so what part of him is being condescending.

+Tiger Snake Hi again TigerSnake, the thing with human reasoning is we are all individuals with differing views on what we consider to be reasonable. I know next to nothing about you, but I'm guessing that if you were talking to, lets say, a mormon, you would find his claim that Joesph Smith had a visitation from an Angel called Moroni, and this Angel gave Mr Smith some Golden Plates with ancient writing from God, and Mr Smith buried them in a secret location, never to be found, and that a tribe of Israelites came to the USA at around 600BC. I'm guessing you don't believe that, but millions of Mormons around the world believe it to be absolutely true. Personally, i consider Christianity to also be unreasonable as a faith. I would call myself an atheist ( i doubt the existence of God), which I'm sure you would call an unreasonable claim. I don't say God definitely does not exist, all i am saying is I am not convinced by the evidence.

+bonnie43uk Bonnie I see you in all these videos making comments every time talking about how silly the idea of a God is and why you feel that way. You are alway polite and very logical about your point of view. I don't know exactly why I felt compelled to leave this comment, but I just wanted to tell you I appreciate your demeaner and the way you conduct yourself even though we don't believe the same. Just as a human being I think you're a pretty neat person and I appreciate and love you. (not anything weird just in a human to fellow human context) I think I have a little bit before, but I would like to share with you how God pulled me to Himself and revealed Himself to me, only if you'd even be interested. I am not trying to debate nor do I think I am going to "convince or convert" you at all. I'd just like to honestly share a bit about myself and get to know about yours a little bit and your take and thoughts on the whole thing. Even if not I actually really like seeing you in these comment sections and truly thank you for behaving in such a civil manner. Have a great day/month/year/life and may God bless you and your whole family. 8^)

***** Thankyou Jimmy, it's quite a rarity for me to get such a nice comment, so I truly appreciate you kind words, I have to say, the vast majority of comments I receive from Christians are civil and although we disagree there is virtually no animosity, just a difference of opinion. I can't say the same thing from some of the comments I see from fellow atheists, maybe not so much on Cliffe's video's but elsewhere on the internet.. they really are vile. I'd much rather converse with a friendly Christian than a loud mouthed know-it-all atheist any day of the week. Yes, absolutely I would love to hear about your connection with God, I am fascinated to hear people's different stories. Dont be offended if I ask you some awkward questions about it though Jimmy :-) I say this to all Christians, if your faith brings you comfort and happiness then embrace it.. life is tough for millions of people around the world, and i wouldn't want to take away someone's belief, especially when it means so much to them. I guess I was born with an inbuilt sense of wanting to know those deep questions, who am I?, what is the meaning of life? and so on, I certainly wouldn't say I've found the answer, but I feel much happier since I rejected the Christianity I was born into, not because I am stubborn or want to 'sin' as some Christians have asserted, but because the answers given by the Christian faith don't seem to match reality. Thanks again for your kind words Jimmy, as we say in England "That warmed the cockles of my heart" :-)

bonnie43uk Well that sounds great and just fine. Sorry about the delay I have 2 sons and spent this last weekend at a football (American) tournament (his team won too!!!yea LOL) and haven't had a chance to get back on until now. Even now I just got off work and then to his practice then just walked into the door again. I also didn't know how you wanted to proceed anyway, like if you just wanted to have it here on this comment section, through e-mail or how ever you want. I am willing to proceed however makes you most comfortable and is best for you. Just let me know and I'll start , I'm actually really looking forward to it. 8^)

***** Hi Jimmy, I'm a big sports fan also ( watching not playing, you name it, i will watch it) Well done to your boys team btw. I'm happy to read your story either way, obviously if it's going to be fairly long maybe email would be best, I think my email add is on my KZfaq homepage. I will look forward to reading it and finding out a little more about you as a person. A brief description of me, I am 57, born into the Catholic faith, my father was a strict catholic, we *had* to attend church every sunday without fail. ( maybe that's where my dislike of Christianity started). I left school in 1974 and I worked in a factory for 35 years until my health forced me to stop. I now do volunteer work as a driver for a cancer charity which i very much enjoy. I didn't really take much notice of faith for most of my adult life, I got interested when i read Thomas Paine's book 'The age of reason' which took a very critical eye at the bible and make me think a lot more deeply about why people believe the things they do all over the world. It's a fascinating subject. Anyhoo, look forward to hearing more from you at some point Jimmy. I live in a town about 100 miles west of London called Swindon in the UK. Quite a nice place to live. Whereabouts are you btw?

@Siscast Yes, this is the teaching I have heard recently. Those unsaved in Hell will know God is there. But will be separated from a relationship with Him. He loves enough to sustain, but has to give them what they want, not in a relationship.

Doubt -- next time you are in a state of doubt about anything important to you, watch your mind VERY carefully and ask yourself: is this doubt really based on anything substantive? Or is it much more of a mood than anything else? You'll be surprised how often it's just a mood.

There is a point this guy at the 15 minute mark is unaware of. He brings up a clear point, God has a standard in Jesus we don't meet. He went as far as to say, can't meet & he is correct. God is just. This requires he knows what should be done. Thus, Jesus Christ follows this & is sinless. You cannot meet that & in such a way need to understand that God, who knows relationship with him is required, gave you Christ to meet that need. We choose to fall at times, but you don't have to remain that way. This isn't a game, but even those don't always give you a win option. Now, I realize that this kid would probably start blaspheming God from there. This is why Cliffe doesn't go that way, I imagine. Still, it is better for him to know there is a standard, rather than allowing him to think that a relative statement. Sometimes it is your time to lose in the conversation. Winning isn't always the goal. Hope he heard you all the same Cliffe. God Bless you all.

Why God set a standard that he knows we will not be able to reach? That’s a great question. Even though that God knew that we will not be able meet the standard that He sets for us. He sent his His Son to die for us in order to redeem us from that. Also, when someone becomes a believer, The Holy Spirit will dwell in us which will help us throughout our whole life when we messed up. Once we humble ourselves and acknowledge that we need help and do not want to live in sin. The HolySpirit will help us and we will be save by GRACE.

@1tmoch yeah chekd a few of ya vids 1tmoch ... good apologetics! you sound schooled as.. Though sometimes bro theres a complete lack of genuiness in your voice... kinda sounds like you just want to pull peoples worldviews apart (which is good) but sometimes where you could make really good ground with someone your willingness to just want to "win" comes across strong. Good on you though, I think if you can radiate a bit more love youd be awesome!

I don't think Hell is necessarily a complete separation from God. Instead, it is only a complete separation from all the Good and Mercy and Love of God. It is however, the very place where people will be intimate with God's Wrath, Anger, and Justice for eternity.
