Give Me An Answer with Stuart & Cliffe Knechtle

6 жыл бұрын

Cliffe Knechtle has a great conversation with college students at a campus in the southwest US.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This is an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

I almost laughed and got smug…then I imagined him wailing in hell, remembering this convo with Cliff and realizing he had a CHANCE and it’s gone. Forever. Do NOT treat these interactions as entertainment. Cliff walking circles around fools. This kid was YOU once. Remember that. Look at the background of these videos. They are somebody’s BABY. And most of them will spend eternity screaming… Open your mouth. Preach the gospel. Start at home.

I meditate as well to put me in the state of total relaxation so that I am open to the word of God and that I can pray to God openly. Earlier on in life when I was 12 and learned to meditate it was to escape my mother who was a malignant narcissist and shredded her children both me and my brother with her words and deeds. My brother killed himself and I am still here now my whole family is gone and I'm not an old woman.

When the student says, "Anytime there's been a definitive answer for the cause of a miracle, we've found that there is a naturalistic explanation 100% of the time", is a presupposition and a circular argument. Because he clearly said that there are miracles that have not be explained naturalistically, so they could be a miracle, but yet he implicitly refuses to acknowledge them as one. Whereas, the causes for the miracles that turn out to be false, and therefore naturalistic, he accepts as reliable because they align with his world view. That's the same as arguing that every prayer ever answered has been a coincidence because there are some similar prayers that have not been answered. And even if an answered prayer is extremely specific and highly improbable, we cannot prove that it was God who answered it. so we cannot say that He did.

Almost consistently so many students throw up unsupported information and arguments without having any backing, validity, evidence etc and when Cliffe challenges them, they either deflect, get quiet, get loud, fumble etc. Man, all he asks them to do is test things, think, consider and they just fall apart. No matter what they gather from these conversations, one thing is for sure; the Word of God is planted in them and it will do what it was sent out to do, an perform that which the Lord said it will perform.

Another point which I think is evidence that the writers of the Bible weren't making up a new religion to get followers or get praise or for whatever reason a man would want to make such a claim up!!.. is the verses that talk about sexual impurities... that if a man even looks at a woman with lust, he's already committed a sexual act with her, that a man and woman should only have one sexual partner so on...none of those things are easy to practice especially for men who were the writers. What men would agree to include something which is going to be difficult to convince other men to follow?... it's not a good way to attract men to follow them if that is their purpose...unless of course it's the truth!! that is really the only thing which makes sense because no man would want make up something which restricts himself and that is almost impossible for most men to achieve unless we do the will of Jesus which frees us from our flesh but this is not easy to do because we love sin it brings us pleasure so it's not going to be easy to convince people to stop, what would be the purpose of such texts if they're lying? You would expect them to make up something much easier to follow if they wanted to deliberately decive people for whatever reason... something much more appealing and easier to achieve, why make up something that they couldn't even achieve themselves which then makes you look like a failure?? it doesn't make sense!! it makes much more sense that they were telling the truth.

I thought this student with the black glasses was pretty good. He handled himself very well with extra good diplomatic skills. Whilst it’s presumably true that the gospels were written in the 1st century validated by the letter from the Bishop of Antioch however the student did bring up a good point. It would be a good subject to be more familiar with. I wish I knew more about it. And why these letters do actually prove that the gospels were already written. However one would assume that if there were these letters, they in themselves would denote the existence of the gospels, because why would this Bishop be writing letters if the Gospels weren’t already written, because surely he himself would have had a crack at writing the gospels. And he could write ok, so therefore he could have had a go at recording the gospels, but obviously they were written already, otherwise he would have been ripping into it.

ManaJack I think I agree with the original comment, I may be wrong but here's my reasons...miracles occur so that the people can be sure this prophet is speaking on God's authority....it's seeems to be His way of giving us confirmation so that the people can be sure because a true miracle which is something that has never happened before or that has no natural explaintion, they can never occur unless God allows it, so when the people witnessed these miracles they could be certain that God appointed this person because how could a person do such things without God's power. I might be approaching this wrong as I said...so I'm open to correction and others opinions of course..I also believe that demons can preform "miracles" which aren't truly miracles but only a counterfeit of the real thing!! ...this has decived many nations like the Egyptians and Babylon etc.. into believing that they are "gods" or that a person is a prophet like in the case of Islam.. The only way we can know for certain if a person is truly a prophet. is see did he meet the requirements a prophet should meet..the requirements God has told us about through Moses... they should be able to predict certain future events that come to pass they shouldn't contradict God or preach a different message. So even if a person who claims to be a prophet and appears to have certain "powers" which are really only demonic if that prophet contradicts God's word and God's characteristics, which have already been revealed to us through His confirmed prophets... then that person or religion is to be firmly rejected.

Hello Ashleigh, Whilst it is very nice indeed to be advised of your peace that’s associated with your self-worth, however I believe as it’s a false peace, it therefore needs to be re-evaluated. Being the very agreeable person I am, it distresses me immensely to disagree with you like this, but please don’t blame me. Perhaps you might consider blaming my pen which is slowly trying to learn all the tricks of the diplomatic trade. Also please, I beg you, can you please give me some licence here. I am not a scholar. And I speak for all high school drop outs when I say we are doing our best to communicate, although it might seem at times as though we are completely up the proverbial creek. And sometimes regrettably that’s exactly where we are. Of course you are quite right to call religion superstition provided you aren’t lumping mine into it, which is Christianity. However aside from my religion, all religions are invented to stop the poor from murdering the rich. I suppose that sounds absurd but I can assure you it’s true. Having said that, the greater part of Christianity has been hijacked by these controllers. The false peace you have is the result of getting rid of God. Off with his head you said and lop bop it was gone. Or was it? When the French lopped off all those heads it cheered them up immensely, a sort of pay back for the injustices. But it was more than that. They no longer had to endure the unfavourable comparison of being inferior, and that was some tonic to them. A real confidence boost. You have killed off God, although you think you have, but you haven’t. God is still there. Yes your inferiority has been eradicated perhaps more so than mine, although I am getting there. But your confidence is resulting from of a false premise. Hence my daring assertion when I dare to say that your peace is a false one, that is associated with your self worth. You most certainly deserve a better reply than this, however as of the moment it’s the best I can do. And I do pray that you’ll cut this uneducated high school drop out some kind of break. I clearly need it. Out of curiosity may I enquire what work you like to do when you aren’t working at unemployment? Thank you for you lovely reply. I appreciate it. I think the reason why it doesn’t make you feel bad about your inferiority to God is that for you God doesn’t exist. You have seemingly solved the problem by denying God’s existence. But take me for instance. I do believe that God exists and because I do, I am effected by my inferiority to His greatness. My recognition of His extreme greatness produces a realisation of my great inferiority compared to Him and accordingly this has a tempering effect upon me. We join forces with God by loving him with all our heart, soul, mind and strength. We obey Him with all gratitude and all obedience. Michael, as to your other comments I will address them in seperate posts.

Cliffe Buddy. Think about this. In one of your videos you mentioned the eye of the needle and hey don’t take this as a criticism. I’m in the gang that’s always singing your praises. However if the shoe fits wear it. The eye of the needle story told by Jesus couldn’t possibly be literal in the context of the rich getting to heaven. Because if it was literal then no rich people could possibly get to heaven. And that cuts out Nicodemus. I think we must be careful not to discourage ambitious young Christians from wanting to make a pile and your interpretation of what the needle means isn’t exactly encouraging. And I think you’ve got it wrong. Unless I have misunderstood you. I think we have to seriously consider the possibility that the eye of the needle is indeed that very small gate in the walled city. Yes you could come in through that very small entrance way after dark when the main gates were closed but it wasn’t easy to do so. For instance to get your camel through it, he had to get down on his haunches, remove all the baggage and sort of, if I understand it rightly, wriggle himself through. It was no easy business. The purpose of the small gate was to prevent an army from pouring through it. Only one guy could come through at a time and if he was a baddy you could stop him no problem with a spear. It is very hard for the rich to get to heaven but it’s not impossible and I got the impression, maybe I was wrong, that you were implying they hey it’s not possible because you believe the needle story to be about a real needle. The rich have to try so much harder to get to heaven because they don’t need God for solace as those who are without the resources of riches. And therefore they have to be extra careful to ensure that they are indeed doing all that they should be doing to please God, whereas the believer who isn’t rich is more naturally inclined because of need, to live that God pleasing life. Invariably God doesn’t make Christians rich because He knows if He does He will loose that person. However we mustn’t forget that there are exceptions to the rule. Sometime God will want a material witness who will actually be an encouragement to the Christian community as a type of champion for them. OK they haven’t got the goods but this guy has and he openly speaks about Christ to the world who are at these higher levels. It makes them feel better in that area if they are feeling a bit deprived. Also these Christians that do greatly prosper can help those in need. If we do our work very well we will be well rewarded but sometimes some of us will strike it rich. Let’s not discourage this.

Good discussion. I disagree with Cliffe though when he says at about 8:15 , "if there's a supernatural God miracles are not irrational, they are rational" Cliffe is making the assumption that there *is* a supernatural God, but I'm not sure how anyone can prove that beyond a reasonable doubt. If you are a believer, certainly you can believe it, but believing it doesn't make it true.

I have a mixed bag on that point. I think you should respect each other's opinions. So, language like, 'ripped into' or 'for the jugular', is harsh & I do not like it. That said, what are they saying? You should challenge this kids views! Radically formed views that state that ANY point of view is objective is wrong. Those other sources have biases in them also. It is just a different bias. Ehrman is a great example. Is his view valuable? Yes! Is it objective? No! Did this kid question opinions he believes are objective? No! Sometimes you show passion, if that is who you are. Shaking the foundations of a belief is not always a gentle activity. In fact I doubt it is ever gentle. The point being, has the questioner read the Bible? He said no. Had he researched the source documents? No. Had he done a study of both sides of this issue, the secular & religious works? No. What did he do then? From what he said, he got up to support his beliefs by calling Cliffe's false. How did he arrive at that? He thinks that the scholars that Cliffe relies on (not established who) were biased & therefore, Cliffe is wrong. He also believes the original text is to biased to trust anything in it. Everyone has a bias! Atheists have a worldview they are trying to backup. Christians have a worldview they are trying to put forth. You need to either accept that you have to sift them or do the footwork to know personally. He was willing to do neither, & was willing to back his viewpoint. The real bias there was his. That was why he could not evaluate what was real, & is disinclined to. If you are going to dismiss the Bible, you should at least know what is in it. You should also be engaged in learning. You could be wrong! So could I or anyone else. Still, we should use more respectful language. Standing up to anyone who knows more than you takes guts, but if you can't take the heat get out of the kitchen I guess. Cliffe could have been nicer, but none of it stopped this kid from defying him without a solid reasoned argument. That kid was over confident.

Every holy book has some degree of reliability when fact-checked against reality. Harry Potter, too, that is nothing god-like. However, what Harry Potter has not, is reliability outside the book, today. No god, offers to the skeptic (or believers in other gods) a reliable and consistent test for their actual existence, today. Just like Harry Potter.

That's an opinion. If you saw supernatural evidence you could reject it as a coincidence, if you heard a testimony that contradicts with your skepticism you could reject it as an illusion, and if you saw the result of an answered prayer, you can always say that is not reliable. So what type of reliable and consistent test would you like to see.

He has left plenty of evidence for his existence, you juat run away fr it because your cowardice gets in the way.

No,@@JohnjOcampo There was another human also considered to be a god, that left more evidence: Ramesses II. We have the body, contemporary accounts from his scribes, from other kings, we know about his family, his life, and accomplishments. A simple human that lived 1200 years before the character of Jesus, left more evidence than an alleged god... If you lower the bar enough every god has plenty of evidence.

@@chikaokolo4929 How would supernatural evidence be conflated with natural evidence???? What God will make his evidence puny enough to be conflated with a coincidence??? A real God can give evidence beyond any human misunderstanding. Yet every god we know used ancient social media for their mighty important messages to all humans... Another miraculous coincidence!

Here we go another person trying to debunk God. When will mankind realize he doesn’t have the chops to debunk God? So now history which is all about mankind is going to debunk God. Oh what a joke. History is about man who has a beginning and an end. God is Spirit and has no beginning or end. All the Bible does is tell us the History of God loving mankind.
