Give Me An Answer with Stuart & Cliffe Knechtle

11 жыл бұрын

Cliffe Knechtle has a good dialogue with students at Texas State University. Recorded in November 2012.
The "Give Me An Answer" ministry began as an outgrowth of the dialogues Cliffe Knechtle has had with students on various university campuses throughout the United States. These universities include the University of Maine, Harvard, MIT, University of Florida, University of Texas, University of Wisconsin, University of Minnesota, University of California Los Angeles, University of California San Diego, Berkeley, Stanford, University of Hawaii and the University of Washington. Cliffe spoke on these campuses in front of the Student Union or Library at noon for five to ten minutes. At the close of his initial remarks, he'd open up the time for questions and answers, which usually turned into a two to four hour dialogue with students. His crowd size ranged from 25 - 500 students at a time, and between classes, new students would join the discussion. This was an extremely effective way to reach a large number of university students with the Gospel of Christ.

Oh wow, I'm just hearing about Mr. Cliffe and I absolutely love his perspective, how he communicates his perspective and how he makes you think logically and critically. I was blown away with his analogy with the man who knocks on the brothel's door. It changes your perspective from judging the man who knocks but understanding why we as mankind yearn intimacy and how sins trivializes that need and uses it to destroy us in the attempt to find God...WOW!

I think that is troubling.... "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him" [1 John 2:27]

@@jettdaniel8043 Thanks for your reply. I really do enjoy the extra teachings from the things listed in my original post. They have helped me understand passages more deeply. I'm a visual learner and seeing the charts and animation (or in this case watching Cliffe have logical arguments) have really helped me, especially CS Lewis Doodle who draws out readings from Mere Christianity, its helped me absorb that text and grow in my faith. I suppose I don't fully understand what you find troubling about that, I'll research 1 John 2:27 and hope to figure it out. Thanks for your time and for sharing.

@@KAROSHIcomics Hey Nick! I see what you are saying man, and thanks for your reply! @@jettdaniel8043😊 27 "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him." 1 John 2:27 That passage of Scripture is speaking of a man who is saved, born again with "the anointing which ye have received of him (the Holy Spirit) abideth IN YOU, and ye need not that any man teach you." That means ultimately when you are saved GOD will teach you, as you don't need for any man to teach you but GOD will use anointed men, men filled with the Holy Spirit, to explain things to you much more clear, such as Apollos who was taught by Priscilla and Aquila "more perfectly." 24 And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus. 25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John. 26 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly. Acts 18:24-26 The reason Paul left Priscilla and Aquila to Apollos is because they had the Holy Spirit, who GOD uses men as His Spirit filled instruments with "the same anointing [who] teacheth you of all things." That is why we test the spirits to see if they are of GOD (1 John 4:1). And if they are of GOD we will know by their anointing as ultimately it is GOD who is teaching us through men who the Holy Spirit abides in as well as you. That is why we have the example of the Bereans (Acts 17:10-11) who took what Paul said and search the Scriptures everyday with an open mind eager to see if what Paul preached was true. Yes, C.S. Lewis, those at the Bible Project, and Cliffe are no Apostle Paul, but we can always be like the Bereans and take what they say and see if what they say is true according to our Teacher in the "Scriptures of Truth" (Daniel 10:21). And prior to being anointed, the Ethiopian eunuch in Acts 8 was reading Isaiah 53 and Philip, sent by GOD to his chariot, asked him if he knew what he was reading. The Ethiopian eunuch asked how could he know unless a MAN teach him... 30 And Philip ran thither to him, and heard him read the prophet Esaias, and said, Understandest thou what thou readest? 31 And he said, How can I, except some man should guide me? And he desired Philip that he would come up and sit with him. Acts 8:30-31 So be careful telling someone about a single verse, when we should always bring the Bible to that one verse. As there is much more to it as to how we learn from and about GOD. Anyone could say we don't need to listen to anyone (Jer. 17:5), but the Bible, while yes that's true, but GOD will use men to teach us by pointing us to the Bible and learn, in context, "the way of God more perfectly." GOD bless you! 🙏

I don't know if it's true or not but it's my opinion. I think If you told your friend what he was going to do before he did it he would look at you and disbelief and try to change it. Then your friend would realize no matter how hard he tried he couldn't do anything different. In my opinion he only has 1 option. I think it's better if some things are just left unknown.

Without using Google the best definition for a full gospel church is a church that believes everything in the Bible(Jesus is the son of God) and believes in miracles/healing by prayer. That doesn't mean that that they don't use medicine. If you want to be technical then yes that means he isn't all knowing but at the same time if you want to be technical in another way that still means he is all knowing because he knows everything in the good and evil path that you may or may not choose.

It all has to do with the nature of God, who He is, and who we were made to be. (I don't know if you saw already, but I responded to this question you put up a few days ago in more detail, you can go back and read it again). When we sin against God, we are essentially disobeying His commands. The commands He gives us are reflective of His own character: goodness, justice, holiness, to name a few. We were made in His image for the purpose of worshipping Him with our lives. When we sin, what we're

Himself could design the universe with such precision for life to be possible. To say that chance got us to where we are today is totally beyond reason and it doesn't have the support of the evidence. What do you think about this?
@oceanceaser44
@oceanceaser44 11 жыл бұрын
The watchmaker arguement has been refuted time and time again. Firstly how would you say a universe that is 99.999999+% is designed just for us? And even if the universe was 100% hospitable, that would be because we have evolved in it. What would demand a god would be if we were in an inhospitable universe and yet still lived. If things were "fine tuned" differently then no we would not be here, but something else might be, and it would see the universe to be "finely tuned" to it.

@kikisenpai7817

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 NIV Every sin whether small or great in our eyes is not the same as how God views evil. God hates evil. So when Adam & Eve disobey God they choose to know and have good & evil. Sins are what lead to our death because we commit evil through our flesh continuously. The Gospel, is how God promises to overcome death and conquer it. Which is why Jesus is The Messiah came on this Earth. Your question is why, because Sin is sin, there's no worse or less in Sin. That's why the punishment is death. Now, however you die in this world is not known but it will come. But if you choose to have God & seek through Jesus then you can have eternal life. Which means you can live with God in Heaven. But if you don't seek to have a relationship with God ,Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, you will not received eternal life, you will go where evil goes & still die.

I'll do my best to answer them for you. 1) God is justified for punishing man for sinning against Him because He is an all-powerful, good God that has allowed mankind the freedom to accept or reject Him. When we sin against God, it's a violation of who He is and a violation of the image we were created in: God, Himself. I believe we have free will. There has to be 2 paths Good and Evil. We have an option to either choose the Good path or the Evil one. God only knows the outcome of each path and not which path you will choose in the end. To me the only way to know what's true in life is to experience it for yourself. Eye witness accounts don't work anymore. My suggestion is this: read the Bible for yourself and attend a full gospel church. At a full gospel church you will have a chance to see a miracle(1)

/the forgiveness of the rapist and condemnation of the raped scenario posited above has always troubled me as well. As if Hitler or Stalin could cry out "Lord Have Mercy!" on the deathbed and receive salvation. Its troubling. I for one do not think the little 15 year old girl goes to hell. If God is just, God couldnt do that. He would need to judge her based on the content and character of her soul/heart. If that soul was good and loving, and lived based on the character and values of Jesus, I think she would be saved. I trust God as the creator of the universe to do the right thing in those scenarios. This is part of a much bigger problem. So Jesus didnt come around until 2000 years ago right? But people have lived for quite a long time in our current evolutionary stage. Much longer than 2000 years. So what about the souls gone before Jesus came? So no one was saved prior to Christs arrival? That cannot be right. I struggle with that question often. I do believe in a God, but I cannot stand most religions because they make too many truth claims they cannot possibly know. I believe the search for God and the relationship with God is deeply personal and I dont place much value in Dogma and human hierarchy. Which is basically what religion is. A hierarchy based on dogma. But God is great. I will follow God. Not a book or philosophy contrived by man,

an infinite being, so the consequence of sinning against God is an eternal, infinite one, meaning eternal death apart from Him. Does this make sense? Your friend doesn't have much power/authority over you, so the consequence is light. With your boss, it's greater than your friend. With the U.S. gov't, it's much greater than your boss. With God, it's above and beyond everything, so the punishment must match His power/authority, otherwise, God wouldn't be all-powerful/sovereign over creation.

I agree that some things are better being left unknown, but God doesn't tell us what He thinks we will do before we make a choice, so He doesn't have the effect on our decisions that you are pointing out here. I know that when people tell me that I will do something a certain way I usually want to try to do it some other way so I agree that they have had an effect on what I will do but God does not do that. IMO His knowledge has no effect on our choices.

When we sin, we are saying to God, "God, I don't want anything to do with you. I'm more important than you are, so go away." In essence, we are saying that we wish to worship ourselves, meaning we think that our actions/decisions are ultimately worthy and better than God Himself. And yes, believing in God is an important step! However, our "belief" in Him doesn't influence whether or not He exists; He exists regardless of our belief. Now I'm assuming you will cry foul to that last sentence, so I

Can somebody please clarify some things for me? 1. God is all knowing, he created man, knowing the whole time, that man would sin. How can he punish man doing that? 2. Jesus died for our sins... but he was reborn... so the sacrifice shouldn't really count... and he is god, so god punished himself for creating people that he knew would need punishment off the bat? Lastly why is the price for sin death... sounds pretty sadistic... couldn't it be something like correctional justice?

Not realy.. adding a constant to the inequality makes no difference. Cliffe talks so fast, trying to get his pre-rehearsed script out that he can't understand the other person. Cliffe also defines certain words in a way that fit his narrative instead of what they really mean. This student ran rings around Cliffe and his shifting topics. Sounds like Cliffe just want to be loved, so sad.

However, a good historical case can be made for Jesus's death, burial, and resurrection; scholars who have studied these events have come to the conclusion that Jesus really did die on the cross, was buried in the tomb, and really did rise from the dead appearing to his disciples. Even skeptical scholars agree with this. More so, Jesus's death on the cross removes the guilt and shame of our sin because he took it all upon himself! Friend, there's nothing we can do

God gave Adam and Eve certain commands, and they disobeyed God by eating the fruit of the forbidden tree. God knew this would happen, but it doesn't mean He lost control of the situation. He allowed this to happen so He could display His glory, power, and love even more so through Jesus Christ. 2) You believing that Jesus did not die on the cross doesn't correlate with you

evidence I would give you for God's existence is that our planet is extremely unique; for the Earth is placed in the precise spot in the galaxy for us to observe the universe, we are the exact distance from the Sun so life is possible, our Sun is the right type of star to make life possible, the moon stabilizes the Earth's tilt and rotation, etc. etc. I could go on and on, but if one of these variables is taken away, life is impossible! Thus, what can we infer? Only an intelligent mind, God

Good debate with Cliffe and the guy in the black t-shirt. I think the black t-shirt guy made more sense to me. We humans are a social species, it benefits us to be good to eachother. At 23:30, Cliffe says we have a decision to make, to accept or reject Christ. Let me ask Cliffe this question, lets say a man kidnaps, rapes and horribly tortures a young 15 year old girl, then he kills her. He is caught, and spends the rest of his days in prison, .. near to his death, the prison warden gives the man a bible, he reads it, and GENUINELY accepts Jesus into his heart, ..a day later he dies. Now lets go back to the young 15 year old girl he tortured, raped and killed. Lets say she came from an atheist family, they didn't believe in God because ( despite what Cliffe says), they could find no credible evidence for God or Jesus, so they rejected the offer. Now the young girl herself was kind and considerate, always helpful to others, she did her best in life, she was a credit to the community and everyone loved her. Now according to Christian belief ( maybe I've got this wrong), but the murdering rapist spends eternity in Heaven with Jesus, and the 15 year old girl, for rejecting Christ, will be apart from God ( or some people will say she goes to Hell), .. this is screwed up theology to me.

***** Hi again 1God, always good to hear from you. Yes, I made the point of using the words "GENUINELY accepts Jesus into his heart" ..with emphasis on the *genuine* . So that's absolutely clear then, no matter how depraved and evil your deeds are, doesn't matter if you've spent 20 years torturing people, if you GENUINELY accept Jesus into your heart before you die, you will be saved. And similarly, if like me, you reject Jesus because I simply see no evidence, (despite what you say that we all know God is real), unless I accept him, I will burn in eternal hell. Can you not see a problem here 1God?

If you live a morally good life and truly try to help your neighbor in anyway you can God will embrace you. Jesus covered the girls sins. Justice has been served she will be in heaven. Why. Because I'm convinced Jesus when\if she dies will come and reveal himself to her and being the loving compassionate person she is will embrace Jesus and want to be with him.

Manuel Santo Well, Jesus said a lot of things, he talked about hell being a place where there is 'wailing and gnashing of teeth' Also :Mark 9:43, 48-49 “And if your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than with two hands to go to hell, to the unquenchable fire…where their worm does not die and the fire is not quenched.’ For everyone will be salted with fire.”, There are other places in the New Testament where he speaks about Hell. If you combine that with "I am the truth the life and the way, nobody comes to the father except through me", you could easily conclude that unless you accept Jesus, you will burn in Hell. It would have been good if Jesus had been more clear on this and laid out his terms and conditions for our eternal souls. There are too many grey area's it seems to me. How can I force myself to believe in something which deep down I am very skeptical of?

You should see what primates do to each other. Empathy becomes a truly human trait. Humans may have empathy for one another. They help each other when the cost is low. When the cost is high & unavoidable, then that empathy is Love, if you choose to act. Many felt empathy for the Jews that were rounded up in WWII, few Loved them, & stood up against it. Be the person you know you should be. Not for me or you, but for God. Empathy is not enough, you need to Love. You Need God for that. Few find Love.

*Are humans equal?* First we must define our terms: Equality: in form and value A: is to be the exact same thing *e.g.* a perfect pyramid with a color of ARGB (255, 0, 0, 255) and radial base and height of 10 in. = (is equal to) perfect pyramid with a color of ARGB (255, 0, 0, 255) and radial base and height of 10 in. *end e.g.* *OR* B: for the compound/final total of all parts to be the exact same e.g. 2+2 = 8-4 = -2*-2 = 16/4 = log1,000 ((short-scale trillion) 1,000,000,000,000) *OR* C: for one thing to be an exact copy of another *e.g.* “my ‘cat’ file in Drive C is equal to my ‘cat’ file in Drive D”. *Equivalence*: to be the same in magnitude/value e.g. A triangle with an area of 50 rd [(10 rd h * 10 rd b)/2] ≡ (“equivalent to” symbol) a circle with a radius of 3.989,422,804 rd (50 rd = ∏ r2). Same in volume value but different in form. *Equality* To say two things/persons are equal is equivalent regarding meaning to those two things take exactly the same value and form- or their parts assembled would - and thusly can perform exactly the same function(s) - not simply x > 50% the same, or 99.9,999% the same, but 100%ly the same. Equivalency requires the same overall magnitude - or, in humans one could say “ability” - but its expression may be rearranged and redistributed to produce a different function or effect. This may seem a fine point, but it is an important one. In this sense, a man and a woman can never be equal, just as a cat and a dog can, just as an apple and an orange, A Microsoft PC and a Macintosh, and just as me and any other human will never be equal, because to be equal is *to be the exact same thing in value and form, for the compound/final total of all parts to be the exact same, or to be an exact copy*, so unless one wants to argue that humans are in fact the same thing and perform exactly the same functions - a demonstrably false claim, as men have both X and Y chromosomes and women have exclusively X chromosomes - the argument for equality among the sexes will never be valid. *Equivalency* Now, that has nothing to do with equivalency among humans. It may very well be true that humans are equivalent - a point rather challenging to make considering the vast number of variables which would have to be taken into account for an accurate study - but for the sake of this argument, let’s say they are: men and women are perfectly equal in overall ability. *Differences* This, however, does not mean that both genders and different ethnicities should both be equally represented in all aspects of life (*NOT ALL BUT REGARDING THE AVERAGE*) e.g. men have a muscular advantage over women thus usually do more physical jobs and women are more emotional thus are better counselors, and this is the main point of contention with modern “feminism” - The quotes here shall be used acknowledging “feminism” is a broad term and thus has multiple denotations and definitions. *Modern Interpretations*/*Misconceptions*/*Thoughts* Modern feminism and other such groups seem to think that equal rights and opportunities should necessitate perfect parity among the sexes in everything, which just isn’t how reality works. Men and women have fundamental differences, not just physiological, which in the modern world are mostly irrelevant but, more importantly neurological, which lend themselves better to different paths in life. To have equal rights would also mean that men have a right to use a woman lavatory and women have the right to enter a men’s club exclusive to men. This is why veterinary medicine is dominated by women and most construction workers are men, not because socially constructed societal norms pushed them into these fields, but because each sex has specific differences which are better suited for their respective fields - women tend to be more caring and acute to others’ pain, including animals, and men tend to be more tactile workers. When you start to pull strings around and re-rig the entire system in order get the “right” outcome, as feminism has done in so many aspects of life, instead of looking for the best candidate for the job, you lower the average quality of the candidates you receive, and ironically while trying for equality introduce a prejudicial system. And here’s where feminism and other such groups really seems to fall down: These groups advocates for equal rights of all human beings, yet it focuses on false male-female dichotomies in doing so. The world is not made up of just men, women, and ethnicities, but of individuals, all of whom differ from one another, and all of whom don’t fit into an ideal “male” or “female” mold. There are female CEOs just as there are homeless men, bodybuilding women just as there are emaciated males, and rock star girls just as there are stay-at-home dads. Seeing the world as just advantaged men and disadvantaged women, or vice versa, is a gross oversimplification and strawman-ification of reality. This world is made up of individuals, and each individual should have equal rights and opportunity, and their merits will decide where they end-up in life. **Closing* Gender and ethnicity (for the most part in society) are irrelevant; what is relevant is how good you are at what you do, and if more women tend to gather in one field, and more men in another because of their individual abilities, some of which may be sex-linked, and are best suited there, so be it; we’ll have a better world for it. It’s not discrimination just because there’s not a 50/50 split of male/female, because, as stated previously, men, women, and different ethnicities are not the same thing i.e. equal. Also if humanity is equal, then the fallowing must be true: all African descendants look the same; a Japanese man is the same as a Chinese, Korean, Laotian, and a Singaporean woman; a Native American is the same as an Indian; a Norse is the same as an English person; men and women have the same bodies. So if humanity is, men and women, any two people are equal, then only one out of all of them always have, are, and always will be necessary to exist; so for people be equal is to devalue and de-purpose all except for one of them.

You are equally valuable in God's perception. The stillborn infant & the 120 year old have no difference in value to God. Hitler, Gandhi, Stalin, Mother Teresa, you, me, & anyone you ever could conceivably meet, ALL have equal value in God's sight. That is what it means. It is not about literal equality as in: A = B, If & only if, Everything about A is the same as B, & everything about B is the same as A. Also, by definition, your math is not equivalent do to the changes in steps. Example: A: 2-2=0 B: 4-4=0 Not all elements in A are in B & vice versa. A is not equal to B philosophically speaking. The outcome is the same. That element alone is the same, 0=0. God is not a political party. God Bless

+mackdmara So you're claiming that God thinks that my brother is a woman; are you claiming that God says that all humans look the same; you're claiming God says that the skin color of an African is the same skin color as a Caucasian; in God's perception, an unborn baby should go to the same place as where Stalin most likely is (i.e. H-E-double hockey sticks); you're claiming that God thinks that I am a 360 A.D. Gothic barbarian ramming a spear into a guy's heart right now; you're claiming that God perceives me to be Napoleon the Great, Alexander the Great, King Harald Hardrada (The conquering King of Norway), Lord Draco the Lawgiver? If any one of those things are false, then God doesn't consider me equal to those/us folks. Again, being *EQUAL* means being the same thing in *ALL ELEMENTS* or in the summation of the parts. If God considered me equal with Harald Hardrada, he would be believing that we both led massive armies against enemy X to establish and/or protect our kingdoms but I have never led even a division. If I were the equal to Lord Draco, then we both would have scores of lawbooks and law standards which we are author of and have law PhDs, but I have never written even one law book nor have I even one Law PhD. Again, equality means being the same as is (e.g. one triangle equals 3 sides and 180°) or after doing the math (e.g. 2 + 2 = 4 or H2 + O2 → H2O + O), so unless you're about to tell me that God says that I am a revolutionary general who single handedly (exaggeration) rescued my Germanic brothers from the Roman Empire, then God doesn't consider me equal to General Arminius.

Wiezymon No, you missed my point in its entirety. I gave two clear things there. You should have been able to suss out their meaning. God Loves everyone equally. It does not make you equal to everyone else, as in exactly the same. A small child could tell you we do not all have exactly the same features. We should Love each other as god Loves us. Are you accepting the gospel, like a small child? OR as an immature adult? No matter who you are, god cares about you. Nothing here on earth changes that. Are you trying to live up to sharing that Love? Try caring for people & not tearing them down. You will feel better. Reread what I said, you might understand it better this time. God Bless friend.

+mackdmara "Try caring for people & not tearing them down." What makes you think that I don't love/care for folks; what makes you think that I am trying to tear folks down, just because you and I don't agree, because we have different points of view? Anyway, you're not thinking of *EQUALITY* which means *BEING THE SAME IN BOTH VALUE AND IN FORM* which obviously doesn't apply here; you're think of *EQUIVALENCE* that is, *BEING THE SAME IN VALUE* or less than all elements; now I agree that God loves all humans *EQUIVALENTLY* and that our value as humans is *EQUIVALENT* but I disagree that you and I are *EQUAL* and/or have *EQUAL* value, and/or that God loves everyone *EQUALLY* understand? Now then, if you don't agree with that and/or according to your standard, this makes me a "villain"/"bad guy", then I guess that you and I will need agree to disagree on this matter.
