Giving an old Barn new LIFE: Remodeling a Pole Barn

We took a quick break from building my Dream shop to give an old barn a new Life. Remodeling a pole barn is pretty much just like remodeling any old structure. You always plan one thing, but it never goes perfectly that way. Adapting and problem solving are the best ways to a sucessful remodel. How do you think we did?

It always amazes me how many people don’t know how to properly brace trusses, but go around framing structures. Glad you guys were able to remedy that one

Always learning with you two. Tip. My friend is a tow truck driver. He has jumper cable pins on his truck. He doesn’t have to open the hood to jump a car. You might be able to do the same on the lift. That way you can jump start. No matter where you park. Be well.

I'd like to see how you measure out those electrical boxes so perfect like. Damn beautiful work with no gaps at all. Measuring and material ordering, are the vital real-life skills that can make or break a job. Personally I've done a lot of extra work making the wrong sized stuff work due to miscalculations.

When the trailer deck is slippery you can use a 2" material ratchet strap, it's got to be a long one, use the hook in the side rail toward the front of the trailer to secure one end then lay the strap out on the trailer deck toward the item to be loaded out onto the ground, drive the lift onto the strap then wrap it around the tire. The tire will climb the strap usually without issue. Used to pickup 2wd lifts in the winter time like this without issue. Hope it helps.

As a previous (cancer has disabled me now) Overheard Garage Door & Opener business owner and operator, I can really appreciate the way that you made sure to have the ceiling prepared for the hanger’s of both door & opener. So many contractors either don’t care or honestly don’t even know to have additional bracing in specific areas of the ceiling. Kudos, I appreciate you!🇺🇸🙏

Come on guys, the last I checked they’re not replacing eyeballs. One and done. PLEASE WEAR SAFETY GLASSES! As a tradesman for 50 years I’ve been very lucky. Two other guys I know were not and have glass eyes. Listen to that inner voice saying “I need my eye and ear protection”. Always stop what you’re doing and go to the truck to grab those glasses, ears or mask. May I suggest you make “safety practices” a major topic in your videos as many of your subscribers are in their early years in the trades. Teach safety. Outstanding work guys!

An old truck driving tip if you wanna put equipment on a trailer, get yourself a big kitty litter, toss a little that on your ramps in your deck and your golden. Are used to haul pipe and I would throw a handful of kitty litter down the pipe once each layer was put on dip stay in place the whole trip. Lol. Cheers.

Greg, the stash looks good you just need to let it grow into a great handlebar. Kyle you and Greg work so great together and when he is gone he is missed. Nice to have your son fill in and try and make your work a little easier. Whatever anyone says on here you just need to enjoy the positive and just speed read past the negative or just blink when you get to it. One question ,did you finish that problem with that wall moving? This job was a big improvement to the building and you guys do great work. Be safe and stay positive.

Hello Kyle, I always forget to mention a possible solution to your adversity to treated lumber due to moisture content. I live in Skokie which is north of Chicago and my local lumberyard carries KDAT treated lumber. This means Kiln dried after treating. I’ve used it for over 30 years and it holds its shape and does not wrap. If you can find it in your neck of the woods I recommend giving it a try. Love your videos and am enjoying your new shop build 😊. Best Regards Fred Thomas P/S I’m 76 and still learning so please keep em coming!
