Another devlog for my slime simulator game gelli fields! This time I am finally adding a reason to play the game! Originally you'd just play the game forever and never work towards anything but in this devlog we are adding an actual point to the game!

i don't know why, but i think that having a game where you research gellis would be really fun. You find a gellli, gather information from it, find a new gelli, then repeat.

Suggestion: For the boxes that repair the train, I think you should make it so when your cursor hovers over the box it displays the item you need to collect in order to repair the train. (As time goes on maybe the items gets more specific.)

I think putting the train and donation boxes on a train station would look really nice and help better convey visually that the boxes are for the train. When I first saw the boxes, I thought they would be for upgrading the shop because they're right next to each other. The camera moving to the train does help a lot though, and I love that you can gradually see it being fixed as you progress! I know that a lot of this is subject to change, so please take my suggestion with a grain of salt. Regardless, I love seeing how much work you've done on this game, and I can't wait to see what else you'll do with it!

Repairing the train sounds like a great idea! Some thoughts I had on it whilst watching: Maybe have Gellis in the train that do the repairs for you (or they go into the train once you start repairing it?) - similar to Stardew's Juninos in the Community Centre Maybe allow for special items to be purchased from the trains that require items for a specific biome to encourage going back to previous ones more? Really nice work!

I think it would make more sense if instead of using fruits and leaves and stuff to repair a broken train (which doesnt really make sense) you are instead trying to complete goals to gather items as research. Then, when you have enough to of every item you can safely move on to “research” all the items in the next biome!

I must admit, I was a little worried when you first said you were doing this. it wasn't the game itself, but the reason why you wanted to make it :/ in Breath of Fire 3 there was a little side game in it, where you could look after and give building instructions to fay creatures. tho I liked that part of the game, and wouldn't mind making one myself. that on its own isn't enough, the mini game was only there as a 'rest' for the player. something different to do. Its nice that you've found a way to add progression. looks like you have a full gameplay loop now :D cant wait to see where it takes you.

I love the idea of fixing a broken train to move on! It adds a very nice, very visual motivation to move on. My only two suggestions might be 1. When the train is being fixed, maybe have a flashier animation for the part that is being fixed- i had to rewatch that part of the video twice to notice the particles at the wheel. Even just making the part flash white before it makes the particles would add a great deal of visual clarity. My 2nd suggestion is that, as it stands, it seems a bit odd for a few vegetables to magically fix a train. My thought process was that maybe there is a mechanic who could help fix the train, but wants to be paid in items. That way it keeps the core mechanic, but makes a bit more logical sense. I'm sure however you go about improving the game is going to be great, though!

I've been watching devlogs about this game for some time now and it looks really fun, I'm very excited to play. Just a constructive advice as a designer: everything hits very strongly the eye... The vibrant colors everywhere, the black lines... Maybe you could color the lines around less important things like the background

I still think it would be cool to add a fun secret to the title page like when you click it it rains different colour gelli's and when you hover over it a gelli pops out ontop of it

I have a 3 suggestion for the game, hardcore mode is harder and when gelli dies the world dies or house mode where you can get furniture and take gelli to a bath and get more rooms or multiplayer mode is in the name and we can work together you don’t have to add these tho but can you pls

You should make a cut scene at the beginning ging where a bunch of gellies are on the train and the it details or something into all of the biomes then the camera focuses on the first biome and you see the gellie play the game to show how it works because at first I was unsure what was happening

If you'd like to include more complex resources, I'm thinking that you could also make it that sometimes you need to fix a boat or a plane. By gathering fiber glass or whatever it is that boats are made of and electronics for the plane. Maybe not put this on the main game but, on a expansion or something.

Make a guy named Gooster that sits next to the train saying their train is broken and how you can fix it, although that would require a text system.

man i have an idiea for you ! the train insted of see a brocken train there is gonna be a mission to grow an art of a train and the next stage after you figure out how to get the heart , you gonna start building the train . and actually get parts and put them into place like a puzzle

Add Gooster as a npc sort of like crazy Dave from plants vs zombies that pops up at the start of the game and explains mechanics

Sounds like you have a nice gamplay loop although it sounds like it could easly get repeative... But maybe that is where the levels come in? Like some breanching paths for the Gell?

The game offers many differences between no just gellis, but the biomes you play in and also repeating biomes still has gameplay feeling fresh due to the RNG heavy nature of the game. Sure you’ll be growing the same crops every time you’re in the same biome but there’s many different things that can happen between runs. Maybe you’ll get a good spawn with rare crops already growing, maybe you’ll get a good shop rotation, maybe you’ll get a bad spawn, maybe your gelli will dig up a rare item or you’ll have a specific event occur. The game is surprisingly super replayable and I have a few dedicated players already who have put over 10 hours just into the testing I’ve done on the discord server. I do see how you could see it as repetitive when you just watch the game from small clips on the channel though

Make some secret biomes that are super rare and do not tell us about this !!! This would be a surprise ^^ You could make a gold biome and we have 50% more money everytime we selle things in it or somethin' Or a giant tree biome, every plants gros up 50% faster Maybe a corral biome and here you could... Idk This would be very cool if you make secret biomes

I don't really know if you are planning to add something similar as what I will tell you because I thought the game was cute and it's your first video I see. I think it would be nice (Suggestion, obviously) to do like a train station and for each biome to have it's own design. IMO it would look nicer than if it was over grass. Hope you liked this not original idea XD

There should be a mechanic which allows you to convert seeds without RNG. Currently I can see it being frustrating to get bad luck and never get a roasted turnip. Maybe there could be a lava biome with a volcano, and when you drop a turnip into the volcano it erupts a roasted one

Every time you level up it increases the odds of getting those rare variants. If you don’t like RNG you won’t like the game as it’s heavily dependent on it

Hey, if you're into Pokemon (I saw Pokemon Pinball there), there's a rom hack for green, red, and blue that removes the bugs and adds more features. It even has a nuzloke mode and a 60fps setting. If you're interested, it's called Shin Pokemon by JojoBear13.

I think that levels could be used for something else and not just for a gift with some crops

Levels increase the likelihood of getting rare crops and also reduce the price of breaking things like rocks and trees

@@gatoman_1234 The game is meant to be relaxing, so when you add in things like that it makes the player feel like they're missing out on things unless they level up, it takes away from the relaxing and gradual feeling of the game
