My fondest memory of the EXP was riding to Pittsburgh and back with 6 people inside the car to see the 1988 Monsters Of Rock tour at Three Rivers. Ahhh, the good old days, always an adventure!

That's the same carburetor that was on a 1986 Maserati Spyder I owned. I still remember removing the emulsion tubes to clean them every time we got brush fires in the dry season. Not a huge fan. Holley has the easiest carburetors to tune IMO.

Love this car, my first car was a 1986 Mercury Lynx, same as a Escort. Had 4 18" subwoofers in it..LOL 1991 was a great year!

When I bought the Weber kit for my Chevy Luv, I had to use the throttle lever off the old carb to make it work right.

My Weber conversion DID come complete for my 84 Nissan pickup. A header and the mechanical secondary really woke it up. That was around 2008, still doing great!

Great carb!.. It came stock on my Ford Cortina Mk5 Ghia, albeit with a mechanical auto choke. It's very tunable, performs reliably ... never had any issues with cold starts. Not to mention the intake sound on WOT is bonkers

The reason you don't use fuel line in place of vacuum line IS BECAUSE fuel line is constructed to keep from bursting under pressure. Vacuum line is constructed to keep from COLLAPSING under vacuum. They are 2 different properties. Very interesting to watch these videos though. Love this project.

A 32/34 DMTL weber carb shares the same stud pattern as that intake manifold,that was the UK fiesta XR2 carb for the mk1 with the 1.6 crossflow OHV Kent engine fwd version of the 711m BA (also used in the earlier Mk1 &MK2 Escort) 1982>1984 ,late 1984 the mk2 XR2 got the CVH 1.6 engine with the same 32/34 dmtl carb rated at 96 bhp towards the end of the run before the mk3 came out 1988/89 they switched to a smaller 28/34 carb for fuel economy but didn't disclose it lost about 6/7 bhp and torque, you took of the ford USA economy carb with vac secondary throttle it looks like the 32/36 DGAV was fitted to the UK Ford Pinto engine (the series of 1.3/1.6/2.0 Engines called the pinto not the horrid USA made car ) the 2.0 had that carb as stock in either DGAV auto mechanical choke or DGMV manua/cable pulll choke,they were only sold as auto choke you had to swap the carb or convert the DGAV there was a very rare twin weber down draught carb conversion for the CVH using two DCNF carbs on a 90 degree turn inlet manifold, on a near stock engine the gains in bhp and torque were quite low about 10/10, race versions of the CVH could make a lot more, the RS1600i (a hoter spec version of the XR3i) used solid lifters and in the race series made 160 ish bhp remember this CVH engine was for economy with lean burn tech, and a port design that if you try to port the head it will loose power, the port shape especially the exhaust on a N/A 1.6 CVH is too big to start with, but works ok if its the Turbo version , it was a very hard to tune for good power engine basicly and the release of the zetec twin cam engines (1991/92) was a god send and a whole new era of better engines ZVH head swapped engines were a thing for a while,CVH head on the zetec 1.8 or 2.0 bottom end its a cool project you have there and it reminded me of the days of CVH tuning I owned everyone of them XR2's mk1/mk2, XR3 carb and injection,escort RS Turbo series 2, also countless lower spec models and compared to the rear wheel drive MK2 Escort it replaced they were horrid and the tuner world ran into a wall with the design of the CVH, the record for the most power from a stock block 1.6 CVH turbo was 364 at the wheels, the zetec 1.8/2.0 when boosted went into the 600/700 plus range, some UK tuners got near 900 for drag race engines

I don’t know what it sounded like before but it sounds like it does still have a vacuum leak but part of it is the air filter not being on it also ! It took awhile but ya got R done ✅

Love the EXP, Always enjoy your videos. Just a observation... fuel line is not vacuum line. Fuel line is designed to hold pressure, vacuum line is,well designed to hold vacuum. over time your fuel line can collapse and really screw you up trying to find a problem.

Now let's see a video where you ask your dad's opinion on the R8.

I put a Weber in place of my Solex on my 1974 VW Dasher Wagon back about 1989. Had so much more power.

Also make sure you hooked all the vacuum lines up right and none are crossed. I did that once and got my car running like crap and had to pull out the manual and trace every vacuum line I had touched and sure enough I had two ran wrong and one wasn’t tight enough so I had to get smaller hose and a clamp on one end. Some of those cars have weird fittings where one size is slightly bigger than the other.

You can tune a carb with oxygen sensor. Buddy of mine does it on everything including his gas tractors.

I put a manual chock, manual secondary 32/36 on my Isuzu pickup. Mine did come with the adapter plate to the manifold and a rectangular air cleaner. The air cleaner bottom plate will have a port for the crank vent. Maybe it was just the seller or maybe a returned item possibly with missing parts. Great video!!

Yeah lot of possible vacuum leaks with yours (A/C option), I got the same issue right now but looks like you got it running pretty good! If you don't have a manual choke I'd get one installed if you can, helps a bunch! :)

If you ever have to fuck with the carb in the future... You usually start at 2.5 turns from the tightest setting and loosen them half turns at a time till you find a good mixture... I had a webber and a cam on my old 87 samurai and i gained about 35 to 40 hp

routered the hole out haha nice. thats probably the better way to do it for a flat sealed surface. i would have just drilled it out

Here in Puerto Rico we put those carbs on everything and they are great but do waste gas! Cool car!!!

So, I wonder what the advantage is of the Weber over the stock (I assume Motorcraft) carburetor. I have an 84 Honda CRX and I am running the stock, "weird" 3 bbl Keihin carburetor. After taking the carb in to get it rebuilt, and replacing all of the vacuum lines, it's running pretty good! A lot of people switch out to the Weber carbs but I really wanted to maintain an original engine compartment and the aftermarket air cleaner really changes the appearance.

Is the 32/36 webber the best option? Is it not enough engine for the 38/38 outlaw webber? These are the best on a 22r with an aftermaket head or a 20r head and header/exhaust.

before i swapped to a toyota 3k carb on my suzuki sierra, you guys call them a samurai, i had that same weber on it with the auto choke. had issues after issues with the auto choke getting stuck open and the car just cutting out constantly, after going to manual choke i would never use a auto choke ever again. just dont trust them.

Hope you call them and complain about the "all in one kit including air cleaner" that's actually not "all in one" and NOT including the air cleaner, and whatever else is missing. Don't let them slide!

Why didn't you just rebuild the original carburetor? Saving a bunch of money that way.. The car could of been running with a rough engine for a while. Give your charcoal cannister a look.
