Why is Rachel mad that Santana auditioned. Kurt is right. This is an opportunity for her not a mean thing

Everytime I start to like Rachel she ruins it and I can't stand her again...

It was so unfair of Rachel to get angry at Kurt and accuse him of being a bad friend just because he refused to pick a side. Kurt has been an incredible friend to her and she just threw it back in his face

Honestly I just feel bad for Kurt. That was so unfair of them to put him in the middle and make his choose sides. No one wants to be the middle man. It's an awful thing to be. They should have just left him out of it because he had nothing to do with the argument anyway. He just wanted to be supportive and happy for both his friends.

The way Kurt said "Rachel, no" actually sorta got to me.

Kurt was 100% right here. I was actually happy that he ended up moving on with his band and not including Rachel or Santana because he deserved to have his own space without his best friends arguing over A ROLE!

"...who is perfectly fine with living off of the scraps of my stars" "...by two friends who aren't even my friends" Rachel is so freaking annoying in this scene, and for her to accuse Kurt of betraying her for not choosing sides is immature and unfair.

Imagine getting mad because someone is your understudy 😭 especially after y’all just had a conversation about being friends and there for each other for the other’s opportunities

This scene is one of the main reasons why Kurt is my favorite character

I've said I before and I'll say it again I never understood why the writers felt the need to bring back this old and overused feud between Rachel and one of the other girls especially Santana when they had literally spent all of season four showing us what good friends they were to each other only to throw it away for a storyline that we had seen the entire show

I do not think that Santana just wants to steal everything from Rachel. Later in the season Rachel sees an "opportunity coming her way" and she takes it without really thinking about it. So why should Santana not do something similar? She knew that they were looking for understudies, there was an opportunity and she took it and she has every right to do that. Yes, she should have at least talked to Rachel, but I can also understand why she did not do it. Rachel thinks so low of Santana and immediately thinks that she just wants to destroy her dream. They maybe have not been very close, but she should have trusted Santana. If I were Rachel, I would have been happy that one of her friends is her understudy. They could have worked together and they could have become good friends. Despite that, they both were overreacting and immature. I can understand why Rachel feels threatened by Santana, but she should not think so low about her, who was suppporting and defending her in season 4. At first I was totally on Santana's side, but now I think I'm with Kurt on this one. This fight is unnecessary and probably the result of bad writing. They completely destroyed Santana's character development and brought back a rivalry that did not really exist anymore. This storyline could have been much better if Santana and Rachel would actually be excited about working together.

I completely would’ve sided with Santana if I was Kurt, but I totally respect his decision to be impartial

I really find it difficult to like Rachel's character. I mean it's one thing to be a star, and totally another thing to be a self-centered, self-righteous asshat who puts her ego above everyone else's sake.

How the heck did San keep a straight face during this? I take that back. She actually looked like she was going to cry when Rachel told her they were never friends. She was the one who comforted Rachel when she thought she was pregnant, she was the one who took her to make sure she was not actually pregnant, and she would later be the one who would stand in for Rachel I’m Funny Girl so that she didn’t get sued. Still think you don’t need an understudy, Dwarf?

Santana just wanted something to do bc she was a waitress in NY and missed singing but she still should’ve told Rachel because it could’ve turned into a bonding experience. Rachel is being over dramatic and super self absorbed because she feels that there’s a slight chance that Santana might go on instead of her. I’d be happy someone talented and a friend would go on if I couldn’t. Kurt is the only one with common-sense in this situation

I honestly think that all these hate scenes between Rachel and Santana did not help Naya and Lea's friendship at all.

I feel so bad for Kurt, Rachel was absolutely horrible to him in season 5 and constantly made out like he was a bad friend when in fact he always had her best interests at heart and supported her through everything. this just shows how nasty she can be sometimes

Here's my view on this whole thing- while both of them overreacted, the reason behind Santana's anger, in my opinion, was much more reasonable than Rachel's. First of all, yes. Santana bullied Rachel in high school- that wasn't okay. While she did do it because of her internalized anger at herself because of her sexuality and insecurity, it was bullying nonetheless and she wasn't a very good person until Season Three. People say that Santana swept in and stole Rachel's part out of cruelty, and that her previous bullying of Rachel makes the way she reacted justified. But throughout S4, and for the first bit of S5, both of them truly started changing for the better. Rachel got a reality check, Santana started to care about and love her and Kurt (she even considered them family) and they were clearly shown to have put the past behind them. That's what bothers me- at this point in the show, Santana and Rachel had fully become friends and Santana was nothing but happy for all of Rachel's successes. When Santana auditioned for the role of Fanny Brice, it was for the part of an understudy. An UNDERSTUDY. And while everyone says that she could have gone for any other part, it's honestly really annoying. Like she said, she saw an opportunity and she took it- sometimes opportunities don't come along very often. And it's not like she was trying to steal Rachel's part as Fanny, because once again, she was an understudy! Understudies are absolutely pivotal to the success of a show, and Rachel saying she doesn't need one is honestly ridiculous. When Rachel got the lead part of Funny Girl, Santana was happy for her and cared about her success like any good friend would. On the other side, when Santana booked the Yeast-I-Stat commercial, Rachel was jealous (though she still congratulated her, which was nice) and just because Santana took an opportunity that was right in front of her, she flies into a jealous rage and ruins absolutely everything with Santana and Kurt, alienating Santana right off the bat and throwing Kurt, who had been completely supportive of her from the day he arrived in New York, away and calling him a traitor and trying to replace him with Elliot just because he hadn't taken sides. She also never apologizes for this? So yeah. I hate Rachel in this feud, but Santana's also in the wrong- she shouldn't have fallen back into her bitchiness and gone back to high school. I certainly don't agree with her bringing up the whole Prom Queen situation in the hundredth episode- that and many of the other things she said in the feud. We don't really know if Rachel's anger was personal or not, but Santana shouldn't have responded with as much anger as Rachel. But still, the reason why she did, and why she continued to, was understandable. Not right, but understandable. Rachel, however, was being completely unreasonable and yet, for some reason, Santana is the one hailed as being wrong throughout the entire thing and Rachel never has to apologize to her or to poor Kurt (I think- I haven't watched the show in a while.) Anyways, I don't like Rachel, Santana is my favourite, they were both being unreasonable. Sorry for the essay- I applaud anyone who read the whole thing.

The fact that Lea's past understudy said that she makes her life a living hell is very interesting. They really be taking inspiration for Rachel from Lea.

Yeah, Santana didn't want to be on Broadway. Just like she didn't really want to be in Glee club on high school (in the beginning @ least). She didn't have sh** figured out like Rachel or have the support from her family in the way Rachel did. She did an Ad, help Mercedes with her album, was in a band, doing some coyote ugly type stuff & on Broadway. it wasn't like she was just trying to steal Rachels thunder. She just needed time to figure out what really made her happy & she realised it wasnt Broadway. Most people don't have thier life planned out like Rachel. So the whole understudy thing was blown out of proportion

This is a perfect example of dousing yourself in gasoline and also striking the match... which is what Rachel did to her friends especially Kurt who is her best friend. She literally just self sabotaged a very strong relationship with Kurt. I know them made up later on as time went on but if I was Kurt and one of my best friends pulled something like this on me... Even if they apologized for their behaviour I would still forever be weary and not nearly as trusting of that particular friend again... They proved that they have a level of toxicity which will show itself in situations later on in the future and you would always be second guessing when the next big toxic blowup will happen.

santana has a great oppurtunity she isnt being just an understudy but she gets to have to oppurtunity to learn what rachel is learning and that will probs open new path way for santana idk how rachel cant see that.

Does somebody wanna explain to Rachel how Broadway works? Because the understudy thing may be how it works on local theatre, but on Broadway it's very different. 1) it is physically impossible for one person to do every single show because there's too many and Broadway is too straining. So the ones that are not as mainstream will go to the understudies to give the leads a break. 2) understudies often play the roles if/when the show goes on tour in other cities. Was Rachel planning to play Fanny in both Chicago and Columbus at the exact same time, while also doing a show in New York? Now again this is assuming they go on tour but still.

Watching Rachel talks about high school (even if in an argument with Santana) kinda saddens me... Her high school life was mostly about Finn.

And then she says that they threw her out......she says she knows she's selfish and conceited and bossy and controlling, but it's never a real acknowledgement, it's more like and excuse because she always tries to find reasons for acting the way she does and basically asks for our sympathy for her selfishness. She never takes responsibility for anything and then people are always ready to forgive her rather than let her handle her guilt and actually work to be a better person. And the reason why her getting the other glee girls who were dating football players to defend Kurt and stand up to Karofsky in season 2 is so memorable was because that was the only time she'd ever done something for someone else when it wasn't either to make up for her hurting them earlier or because there was something in it for her. Yes she has been bullied, and yes that was horrible and no-one should go through that and none of the cheerleaders or football players should have done that, but nearly everyone in the glee club was bullied at some point and her knowing what it was like to be bullied should have made her more sensitive to others feelings rather than give her justification for completely ignoring how others might feel.

I think you should also take into account that Rachel has been bullied by Santana for a substantial period of time. Although Rachels reaction isnt reasonable, it is understandable that she is still scared and intimidated by Santana. So Santana getting that role probrably triggered her

Both sides have good points. I mean sure Rachel flew off the deep end (her brand) but how else can she take it when her tormentor for literal years decides to audition for the same role? Would newly blossomed friendship hide all the torment and hurt Santana gave Rachel? No. But Santana also just wanted to audition to show that she isn’t just a pretty face, a good voice and a great body. She wanted Rachel to know that she is just as talented.
