The wage gap doesn’t exist because of sexism. it exists because on average, women are picking jobs with lower salaries. in addition, since many of them leave the work force to raise children even temporarily, they miss out on the promotions and raises that put men on top. Not to mention that for most jobs that pay a salary, there’s a contract negotiation for pay. No one is singling out women.

@@4everbuffylover it’s not really an opinion argument, the wage gap exists for a multitude of reasons and all are directly correlated to sexism. I mean the age old “women don’t negotiate for higher pay” doesn’t even work as an argument, you mean “women aren’t able to ask for more pay without being seen as the “office bitch” or being treated poorly, or being told she isn’t good enough or has different “experience”” women aren’t taken seriously so often they can’t negotiate higher pay. Women are expected to take time off, because raising a child is a “woman’s job”, they usually have no choice as men aren’t expected or often allowed to take paternity leave, because men have decided that paternity leave isn’t as important. Married men are more likely to get promoted than anyone else, especially a over woman. Often men will get a different job title which is how companies get around paying women less. Also any field that is mainly dominated by women is devaluated (yet most of the bosses or people in charge are male), such as teaching, women often have more experience and it’s female dominated yet men are more likely to be promoted to principals, in Russia this is what we observed in computer science I believe, it was male dominated and respected, then women went into the field and it was devaluated. Also let’s not forget the alarming rates of sexual assault and violence against women in high paying fields such as STEM programs. Yes, paying men and women differently is illegal, but let’s be honest, no country (except Iceland) is actually doing anything about the gap in men and women’s pay. Pretending it isn’t real or acting like it’s the same as it was 50 years ago isn’t going to help anyone. I’m not “picking a fight”, I’m respectfully letting you know that you are wrong and spreading false information about the wage gap and how it works. Women do a lot of unpaid work as well, do you know that in the world women do about 70% of all the work mainly including labour? (Also the fact that your only data is from a news article that you don’t even remember kinda debunks your argument.)
