Can't hear this without thinking back when it was popular on the radio, and my sister in laws step Dad and Mom were visiting from Germany. Heinz couldn't speak a word of English, but he loved this song.

Not sure how much Glen Campbell you've covered, but he had his own TV variety show for a while (featuring talents like Linda Ronstadt singing "Long Long Time"), he was in a few movies and TV shows, and he was with the Wrecking Crew (highly accomplished studio musicians). He was a guitar master. His early hits included "Gentle On My Mind," "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Wichita Lineman," "Galveston," and after "Rhinestone Cowboy" he had a hit singing "Southern Nights." His final song is reminiscent to me of Johnny Cash's "Hurt," and it's called "I'm Not Gonna Miss You." IIRC, he also became golf buddies with Alice Cooper.

There's really no such thing as a bad Glen Campbell song. But I sure wish you'd have heard some of his early stuff ('60s) before listening to this to get the proper perspective, as listening to this song can easily lead you to believe that Glen Campbell is a country artist. But he's so much more than that. Most of his biggest hits in the '60s were Jimmy Webb composed classics. Check out "By the Time I Get to Phoenix," "Wichita Lineman," "Gentle On My Mind," "Galveston," "Where's the Playground, Suzie," "Try A Little Kindness," and his last big hit worth noting (from 1977), "Southern Nights." Fun fact: For a little while, Glen Campbell even filled in as a member of the Beach Boys road band when Brian Wilson first wanted to stay in California and focus on writing and producing. Prior to launching his solo career, Glen Campbell was also one of the most sought-after studio musicians in L. A. and was a member of the group of studio musicians that came to be known as "The Wrecking Crew." (There's a documentary about them, and you really should watch it.) Finally, whether you do a reaction video to it or not (you should), I highly recommend watching the video of Glen Campbell performing the William Tell Overture (the theme from "The Lone Ranger"). Well worth your time. kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fbtym6hhlc6dhWQ.htmlsi=jSs3LVe-K-nd7rsF

:) Of course, the *phone* mentioned in *this* song was a rental-only instrument that sat permanently on a table in our homes back in the day. It was attached by a telephone cord to a special outlet which was wired to a telephone pole in the backyard. Speaking of which, Mr. Campbell *did* record a song called Wichita Lineman..... (hint....hint....) You may like that one too.

This song speaks to people across the decades who are striving to reach their dreams. "But you're down when you're riding the train that's taking the long way" - I really feel that frustration that I know where I want to go but it's taking forever to reach those goals. But I'm still working towards it and still dreaming, "with a subway token and a dollar tucked inside my shoe" (figuratively).

Hey Ace don't want to bring you down..but when you think you got a good handle on Glen's music ........give a listen to the last song he recorded when he was in the late stages of Alzheimer's. He was on stage one night and tried to introduce his daughter and forgot her name. Apparently the amazing thing is that he played and sang as good as ever, maybe better . Anyway ,it's a beautiful song with sad lyrics. Enjoy.
