Find out EXACTLY how accurate your relative pitch is on a scale from in 0 to 20. Anyone can take it! You don’t need to have perfect pitch to take this test. This test only involves your ability to recognize and memorize different pitch changes in a short melody.
IMPORTANT: If this test was VALUABLE and FUN for you, I dare you to challenge your friends on your social media and see what score THEY get! :) As of right now, it seems that the whole planet wants to take this viral test. Should we challenge famous singers such as Adele, Ed Sheeran or Billie Eilish? Let's start a petition here. 😀Also, I have a 2nd TEST that tests your ear in a different way. It is also perfect for practicing and sharpening your ear!

Harder to remember the sequence when the first note is changed so defnatwly challenges memory!

Am I really the only one here that thinks this is not just a test of pitch but of memory as well? If a sequence of notes is harmonious, the mind can remember the notes together and recall it as a single song.. however many of those note combinations were not harmonious so I found myself trying to remember each one in part, and after a day of work having to keep 5 notes in mind is not that easy.. I got 16/20 but I bet I would have gotten all of them right if the note combinations would have been harmonious. I'd bet that even with more than 5 notes, for something nice sounding I would have gotten it correctly.

Well, I'll put myself out there for the low-score folks :D I got 11/20 correct - and for 3 of those, I gave myself credit if I could identify "yes something changed" even where I couldn't identify which note it was. When I got things wrong it was mostly because I thought "those all sounded the same" with the exception of two: #12 and #20 I indicated the wrong note changed. I did struggle the most toward the end - like other folks mentioned, with trying to hold the 'memory' of the notes in my mind. If it were more of a melody, it might've been easier but I can't say that for certain. Thanks for this!

20/20 I honestly didn't think I would do this well, I've been taking voice lessons for about a year and a half. I've been asked if I have perfect pitch before, but when I looked up the definition it said 'able to hum (or play) a note without a reference' (paraphrasing), and when I try to find a note, I use a reference in my head (Yankee doodle is my favorite to use since it starts on middle c lol.) Super fun video, I've been looking for one for musicians to challenge me and I found it! ❤

Just realized i could do what u said about finding a reference. I thought of the first note of home on the range (as i learned on the piano many years ago (im a teenager so many years to me was like close to a decade ago)), remembered said note was an A, looked up what an A sounds like and discovered it was the same tone!
@crazy4chessred195
@crazy4chessred195 11 ай бұрын
@@TheUnknownery Reference notes make it so easy to find other notes. I have good relative pitch, so if you give me a chord (and sometimes a note) I can hum up or down the scale and find other notes. That's why I like using yankee doodle, it starts on middle C, and the first few notes are CCDE, so it makes it easy to find other notes close to it on the piano! (Also, I know what you mean. I'll say "When I was little blah blah blah.", and when I was little was 10 years ago instead of the 20 I'm making it sound like 🤣)

Damn, this was great! I had doubts but got it right in questions 13 and 17 but somehow I'm not quite sure why the only one I had trouble with was 9 😮 . Swear I could only listen to the different note by my third time, while trying to understand the reason. I think I got it though. My brain was expecting the second sequence from the beginning. I realised those were the notes that I thought I'd heard in the first sequence too so I couldn't tell the difference 😅. Very very interesting. Thanks

20/20. Ive got a robust memory and Simon used to be my favorite game as a kid. I grew up listening to and playing music but its been years since I picked up an instrument. I wouldnt say I have perfect pitch but its pretty good. The downside is that whenI hear a musical pattern or note/ chord progression somewhere and I hear it elsewhere my mind will go into overdrive figuring out where Ive heard it before. I can still “Beat Shazam” though. 🎼🎵🎶

Like you, I am always recognising what sound to me like musical plagiarisms and wonder how they get away with it! I get really peeved when they accompany a radio drama or documentary with some music which I find really interesting but haven't heard before and then they offer nothing in the programme description or credits by way of identification. Also music often distracts me from the programme content by being more interesting! I scored 16 1/2. The half was where I lost count and couldn't make up my mind whether the different note was 4 or 5 so wrote down 4/5 and awarded myself the half point. I love music but have never learnt to play an instrument. 69 is probably a bit late to start.

20/20 - My parents have always told me that I have perfect pitch, but I had no idea what that meant. I did research into it recently, and wanted to find a quiz to see if i actually have it, but I don’t know the notes names so this test was really helpful for that. I’ve never taken any real music lessons of any kind; I’m self taught ukulele and guitar. I didn’t think this quiz was that hard, until I saw the comments and seeing how other people did. I am shocked at how well I did! The concept of a musical ear is so strange and mysterious to me. I’ve always kind of doubted the fact that I can ever do anything musically, but I think this has inspired me to try more things in that field. Thank you for creating this quiz! It has been really helpful to me and many others :)
@sdahman

This test is for relative pitch, not perfect pitch. You are comparing 2 passages and thus there is a reference. Perfect pitch implies you can identify the name of any note played, sing any note on cue, and identify the key of a song or passage. People with perfect pitch can also identify the closest named note in everyday sounds like a bird song, car horn, etc.

I got 11,12,19,20 wrong. Think I might have done better if not under the timer but accepted that those were the rules! Also, took this test under concert conditions: as in, I'm a guitarist, so I'm really quite drunk :D Thx for making these videos

Interesting to do! 16/20, I only play drums, have worked with music much of my life & would love to play piano & guitar, can't really pick notes & chords tho.. Just cringe when something sounds dissonant! 😂 Missed 9,12,17 & 20.

The three I got wrong were all cases where there was something I found dissonant in the first thing but corrected in the second one and in two of three cases was the second number I wrote down because I wasn't sure, but still not bad for almost no musical training. Only 12 gave me real problems when I went back to listen to it again. Thanks!

15/20 for me: thought 9, 12 and 16 were the same(!) and wrong answers for 19 and 20. I consider myself very poor musically, although love it, and it hasn't stopped me learning guitar in the last few years, however badly!

100% and immediate answering time. No thought required whatsoever. Answers *super* obvious to me. I don't know if I have perfect pitch, but my mom says I do because of some study I did for one of her friends when I was a wee thing. I don't remember it. When it was time to choose an instrument (I love my parents), I chose the darn drums. Why o lord, why? I wish I had gone for the piano or the violin since I love them so much. I guess I still can. It's never too late, right? ❤️

Kind of wish my mom would have pushed me toward an instrument with musical notes since she knew I had "perfect pitch." I'm still unsure, but signs point to sure. I'm not bragging, btw. I'm not an arrogant person, I just want to figure this out for myself, and the more info I give, the more I get back.

@@pardonmypiano thank you for making this amazing video. It has boosted my confidence so much, and I am just about to purchase a full keyboard so I can learn to play the piano. I have very long fingers, and I figured I could be an advantage for me playing piano as opposed to the violin. I am so excited! Thank you so much for responding to my comment too. I had no idea. I just came back to this video to see if anybody had said anything, and your encouragement means the world to me. I am definitely going to subscribe to your channel now. You really care about music and your subs ♥️💯

On KZfaq, there is a C261.63 note. I add to favourites. Several times a day I sing or think the note and then play. At first I could be a tone out, but after a year, I am usually within a few cycles. I call it almost perfect pitch. I am 66yo.

@@pardonmypiano I'm seeing a lot of people pointing out this was kind of a combination of memory and pitch. I got 15/20 with #'s 7 and 2 being a toss up between 2 options (if not counting those two it'd be 13/20) and #12 being difficult to identify at all - probably because of ADD. Note: it doesn't "only involve [one's] ability to recognize pitch changes in a melody" if that were the case it'd be a changed or not changed test. But every one was changed so it also asked to identify the specifically changed pitch.
