Funny thing is top tier relative pitch wins the battle with top tier absolute pitch, guessing intervals on the spot is a lot stronger, allows not only to transcribe music on the spot but also to analyse with a lot of ease, because composing techniques are all based on relative pitch.

I've developed relative pitch in a few years, and I think that perfect pitch can be developed. My only problem with the "associate it with a piece or song you know" is that I can transpose the entire thing without knowing it. I think for instrumentalists at least, if you have relative pitch and can just remember the most important note on your instrument (for me, a trombonist, F or Bb) then you can just use intervals for everything until you get it without having to compare with intervals. Singing the notes definitely help

I have relative pitch, and I always remember what key songs are in, but I play the clarinet, so Bb is C for me. Whenever I say a note, I forget about concert pitch and say what note it'll be on the clarinet. So no one believes me. TwT
@tunedtoeb
@tunedtoeb 2 жыл бұрын
Easy: remember the sound of yourself tuning to others in your corresponding musical group. As a (mostly) woodwind player, the note A is a nice note :) us woodwinds love tuning to that note. You brass players often like B flat a lot more, unless it is like an A trumpet, for example (not likely). Yes, some brass instruments come in semitone-off tunings for ease of access to drastically different key signatures (with tons of sharps/flats), for their common relatives. Also, try humming it to yourself until it sounds right in tune and test it out with a tuner after. I can practically always nail the tuning of an A4 after humming it to myself, even many hours after hearing something musical.

yeah, as a low brass gang member myself, when eddy played the Bb for brent, I knew it, then the C was just a step up from that, and Ab was just two steps down from that C. If played an Ab out of context, I think it would be a helluva lot harder for me.

There was a kid my High School that had perfect pitch - everybody wanted him on their soft ball team.... The most perfect pitch is the SCG...but then again the MCG would say that's not cricket... Apparently Noah had the perfect pitch to paint the outside of the Ark... I had trouble hovering helicopters as I couldn't find the perfect pitch...which actually is true because I flew fixed wing and stalled a lot because the plane had no real perfect pitch for stalling... my instructor's scream was actually in F#...he also tended to swear a lot... I will now ascribe a regularly spaced helical path and stand in the corner....Dad jokes rule !

Theory: im p sure eddys perfect pitch is just insanely insanely well developed relative pitch Evidence: he said he developed it, and i remember in 1 vid he said at first he started by thinking of open a then going from there Additionally: if were going with the fact that perfect pitch cant be learned, memorization of pitches + relative pitch development would eventually amount to what basically looks to be perfect pitch. The fact that its learned and there was a window where eddy still got stuff wrong kinda supports this too. Honestly idk what im going on about but based on what eddys said on his pitch this is what i think OH OH and for brett: hes been playing so long that using the associate-with-pieces thing (which i do too lol) he can probably quickly develop something as good as eddys pitch in a while. A probably long while but a while.

it could be a combination of relative pitch and pitch memory. i wouldn't say i have perfect pitch but i have a E memorized, and i do the same thing, though not as well as my relative pitch isn't as immaculate as eddy's. i'm not incredibly smart on how that works, haven't read up on it too much so don't go crazy, but i think pitch memory is a thing.

I think I can pick up subtle differences in quality of different pitches. Especially micro tonal changes. Like if you play a C, and then you play a C -10c off, it's not just a tad lower, but it sounds, and feels different. Anyone else has this feeling of micro tonal changes having a change in quality and not just pitch? Is it just the iffy feeling of something being outside the scale?

I developed perfect pitch in high school too!!! Videos like that did help, but note associations are what I got! I remember the starting note (or the most NOTE-able note) of a song and remembered each pitch that way. Here’s my list that’s helped me (change as you need): C - Man of Steel Theme (the glissando part) or Super Mario Theme C# - Auralnauts Batman vs. Superman Ding Ding D - Open Up Your Eyes from My Little Pony Movie Eb - Animaniacs Theme E - Carol of the Bells by Mannheim Steamroller F - I’ll Make a Man Out of You from Mulan F# - This Is Me from The Greatest Showman G - Wakko’s Two Note Song (also has E) G# - Moonlight Sonata First Movement A - Literally remember this because of tuning (but the second note in Mushroom Gorge from Mariokart Wii works too) Bb - Adagio for Strings (original tuning) B - Tribal Dance by Brian Balmages I hope Twoset sees this 😁👍 (Edit: forgot G# somehow 😅)

So if I want to find a note I think of which is closest to it, g, d, a, or e, and work my way up or figure out the intervals from there! Same, I've had it in my left ear since I was 12, I'm 17 now. Literally just woke up one week after my eye operation with this high pitched ringing in my ear. By the end of the day I was moderately deaf in that ear as well. I was also born with glaucoma, hence the eye operation, so I'm pretty blind in my right eye too. And it gets better: apparently a chemical in one of the eye drops I had to use four times a day after my operation is why I'm deaf, maybe. Because they still don't know, and if it wasn't for 11 year old me realising there was something wrong with my right eye, I probably would be completely blind in my eye too. The level of competence is just incredible.

I appreciate what you guys said about developing relative pitch by correlating notes with musical pieces. I was part of an a cappella group one year in college, and one of our songs, Distler's Lobe den Herren, became a grounding song for me in terms of pitch association. The first note was a G4, and for a while I could fairly accurately figure out a note by audiating that first G and calculating the interval. Sadly, I did not develop it further, and have since fallen out of practice. However, it's 10 years later and I can pretty reliably pick out/sing a G4 just by thinking of that song. Pretty weird, I know, but also kind of cool.

@@mr_sugas_fire3015 When having perfect pitch it feels weird singing in another key, because it is not the melody you are used to. A great advantage about perfect pitch for me is, that you can reproduce difficult melodies. When changing the key, thst doesnt work. You have to concentrate, because you have to focus on the relative pitch and that is annoying. When not concentrating it happens that I switch into the original key while everyone else still sings in the other.

About a year ago I found out I have perfect pitch, and my sister wanted to have it but, of course, she couldn't. So for 40 minutes, i made her associate B's with Harry Potter theme, G's with "a million deams" A flat's with a part of We Don't Talk About Bruno, etc. I found a song or movie theme for every note, and now she can get some notes right.

Ok, so here's how i developed my perfect pitch in the 8th grade. So what you have to do, is to outline all of the notes. ALL of the notes, like: A A# B C C# D E# E F F# G G# And play my guitar to the corresponding note, and memorize that pitch, to correlate to the written note. It sounds confusing, but that's how i learnt it.
