I have debated that Global Warming Skeptic guy on KZfaq numerous times, and he's a total moron. This video came out way before I even knew about him. Lol, he was just as much of a moron back then as he is now. I recognize his stubborn, selective, illogical, hyperbolic, and resistant-to-facts style of debating politics (and his potato voice) (I know this thread is old, but I though I'd chime in)

Global Warming Skeptic Really? You can't answer one question about Kansas plus Sam already showed the blatant in the "facts" from the last call where the person who looked like an idiot was not Sam. We used the first call in my psychology class when discussing cognitive dissonance and willful ignorance in the unhealthy mind. I am looking forward to using this new call when we cover low cognitive complexity resulting in simplistic or absolutist (splitting) thinking and how it relates to mental rigidity. I love listening to people spout on and on about something they have no clue about. Having one source (which is a biased website) does not mean you have any understanding and usually if a person can only find one source it's because they are wrong and are guilty of confirmation bias. When it comes to this subject a person might make themselves aware of the fact that Kansas has basically followed the guide to become your dream community and is sitting on a 40 million dollar shortfall and can't fund schools, police, fire or road maintenance. At least Sam knew about that when a certain someone else didn't. Oh and Rush Limbaugh is an even bigger idiot the drugs have gone to his brain and I can prove it because that's why he was going deaf and has a cochlear implant.

Global Warming Skeptic If you disagree with cherrypicking then why do you cherrypick your "evidence"? You did not listen to Sam there are far more studies that show evidence that contradicts your "evidence" The reason Sam mentioned Kansas is because it's a textbook test case for your philosophy. Do you understand what a pilot case is? You may not live in Kansas but using that rationale they could follow your tax guidelines in 49 states and have it fail in all 49 and claim you don't live in those 49 states and you have one website that says lowering taxes raises tax revenue and until its done in your state we are cherry picking by using the other states. If you did research on any website that is not funded by right wing think tanks you might see that the reason revenue increased under Reagan and JFK was due to other changes in the law. More specifically some loopholes were closed and although taxes were decreased for the 1% there were tax increases for the other 99% Your failure to even listen and try to comprehend is proof of low cognitive complexity resulting in simplistic and absolutist (or splitting) thinking. Your eagerness to continue arguing without listening to the opposition's evidence (which you refused to do on the call) is proof of mental rigidity. Your willful ignorance is not even funny its sad. What I would like to know is...what do you do for a living and did you go to college? If you did go to college what did you major/minor in?
@endabcs
@endabcs 9 жыл бұрын
Global Warming Skeptic Actually, it's quite meaningful, especially since your website shows an increase in debt despite the increase in revenue. I went to the Tax Policy Center and after the 2001 tax cuts on the wealthy revenue dropped from 2025.2 to 1991.1 to 1853.1 in 2002 to 1782.3 in 2003 when the US invaded Iraq, which was basically a Keynesian stimulus on the US economy, which led to an increase in the size of Debt and GDP which increased revenue until the war started to wind down in 2008, where the Bush stimulus came into effect which increased debt, and lowered taxes which resulted in an income loss from 2524 in 2008 to 2105 in 2009; however when the Bush tax cut expired in 2010 revenue went from 2161.7 in 2010 to 2303.0 in 2011 to 2450 in 2012 to 2775.1 in 2013 to 3021.5 last year. It appears even your own reference is against you.
@endabcs
@endabcs 9 жыл бұрын
Global Warming Skeptic Also according to your link, tax revenue increased and debt decreased after the 1993 tax increases. In fact, revenue increased and debt decreased every year until the Bush tax cuts in 2001 and didn't start increasing until the Iraq Invasion of 2003, when the government borrowed massive amounts of money and injected it into the economy through the military industrial complex, and started to fall off once the draw down in 2008 began. Revenues didn't pick back up until after the Bush tax cuts expired.

Global Warming Skeptic The reason that I asked about your education is to understand whether or not you have a background in something that may be skewing your understanding. and I do not believe you understand what low cognitive complexity really means or else you would not continue with the splitting and mental rigidity. I had one of the economics professors listen to your call and read your comments here (I will have him read the last few of your comments, hopefully this weekend) and he (republican Reaganomics 400-600 level economics instructor thinks you are to thick skulled to waste our time on. 10:05 - Republicans have consistently claimed that higher tax rates on the wealthy will hold back economic growth, while lowering rates further will spur it forward. But that’s not likely the case. Last year, economists found that the point at which the top tax rate is high enough to maximize government revenues but not so high that it discourages the rich from trying to earn more is quite high: about 95 percent for the 1 percent. History bears that out. Economists have pointed out that post-war American growth has been higher during periods with much higher top marginal tax rates and lower when tax rates were substantially lower. When the top rate was more than 90 percent in the 50s, economic growth averaged more than 4 percent a year. But recently when the top rate has been closer to 35 percent, growth has been less than 2 percent a year on average. thinkprogress.org/economy/2015/05/26/3662773/sanders-90-percent-tax/

When this dude said they will use the money in a way to avoid taxes I thought to myself, "BINGO" If you tighten tax loopholes and Force them into that situation the only way they can avoid taxes is to invest into the company. If Medicare for all is passed then that removes Medical benefits. Paid Leave, Maternal AND Paternal Leave are added, Paid Vacation, Bonus's and even Wage increases to avoid taxation. My guess is most are too selfish to use this easy Tax loophole though and will end up paying the fucking taxes in which case the government can take it and create Jobs with it instead. Sorry Caller but you need to take a course in Econ. smh

It doesn’t always necessarily follow that raising tax rates will produce higher revenue and by the same token there are times when lowering tax rates will produce more revenue. The latter, for example, has been demonstrated by revenue from tax payments on capital gains increasing by 79% government revenue from dividends growing by 35%, even though the taxable rate fell from 39.6% to 15%.

Does cutting taxes increase Revenue? It depends. If you cut the payroll taxes of the middle class in particular, they generally spend that money on goods and services, circulating it back into the economy. So, depending on the effective tax rate, it theoretically could increase net revenue down the line. However, if you cut the Corporate tax rate for large publicly traded companies, they have a couple of choices: either spend that money back into the economy by raising wages or making business upgrades, or passing the savings on to consumers; OR, they can keep it circulating in the Stock Market by way of stock buybacks and shareholder dividends. Setting aside the enormous loopholes, investment earnings are taxed at a much lower rate than earned income from payroll taxes. This is EXACTLY what happened after the GOP deep corporate tax cut in 2018. Payroll taxes went down slightly, and corporate taxes went down significantly. Companies did not spend it into the economy, but kept it for themselves and their shareholders as capital gains. Tax revenue plummeted, and we now have the largest deficit in history. Thanks, GOP.

I believe a good tax reform would be to keep the graduated tax system but NO DEDUCTIONS except for the first $20,000 earned is tax-free. Tax corporations by 20% of their profits but no deductions or exemptions except for charitable donations (and apply a strict standard to what constitutes a charity to actual charitable work, not political BS). Add all personal income to be taxed at the same rate (wages, capital gains, investment income, etc.). Revoke tax exemptions for all religions and churches but their charitable enterprises can get tax exemptions if they meet the requirements for charities. There, simple, and you get rid of the dodges and loopholes.

To be honest the lower tax = more/less tax revenue is probably a case by case scenario. It did happen in Portugal that lowering the tax burden (in the middle and lower classes ) did increase tax revenue. That was a very special case because the wages were so low, that the economy was dying because a big percentage of the population couldn't afford basic needs. I don't see that being the case in the USA, and tax cuts for the riches is definitely no the way to increase tax revenue.

Global Warming Skeptic Dude, you do realize that studying the data from that chart, that taxes appeared to go up both when we cut them AND raised them, right? And also, you do realize that the Fed lowered interest rates during the so-called Reagan "boom", right? It coincidentally coincided with the growth, which would make sense because one of the reasons we had that recession in the early 80s was cause the Fed jacked up interest rates to fight inflation. Also too: Reagan created 16 million in 8. Carter created 10 million jobs in 4 years. Carter had a much higher tax rate than Reagan. Who had the higher job growth rate, and how was that possible?
