Dogs. Had a mad pit bull charge me once and slam into my rear wheel, busting a spoke and causing a crash. Now I hate having dogs anywhere near me when I ride.

When I got into riding trails I've heard that happening around here in Tx. On top of that, I just watched a movie doing that but on a snowmobile. Been riding road bike ever since! 😔

I go cycling as a way to overcome fear. I have mild agoraphobia and often plan a ride that’s long and where I have never been before. Scary for me but added achievement of leaving the house and doing things outside.

My biggest cycling fear is the XL20 generation Toyota Sienna made from 2004 to 2010. One of those things swerved across the road at me, ran over my brand new iPhone and nearly hit me. I had to buy a new iPhone after that and have hated those cars ever since. Very traumatic experience. 😂

Greatest fear... the bib short ripping at the rear seam 20miles from home. Honestly has never happened to me... honest... ok once... it did once.

Getting dropped in a race became an ever-present terror for me after just once experiencing the sheer agony of chasing alone for five minutes to get back on only for my shattered husk to be instantly and permanently dropped again at the very next hint of a gradient.

I commute to work at the hospital and commute home a lot in the dark. I have a few fears: 1) being chased by a dog in the dark. 2) being late because of a flat or other mechanical. 3) being hit by a car and transported to my own hospital as a level 1 trauma.

Maybe it's worth to think about smaller fears as well. While not existential at all, these dread fears come true far too often. Like asking your shifter for a smaller gear and being denied. Or overtaking a bunch of ebikes just before a steep hill starts.

The fear and anxiety before a maximum effort, knowing you are about to hurt. This fear can cause my HR to rise to 160bpm even before the effort has even started.

Biggest fears: 1. A life changing injury that stops me being able to exercise. More than a couple of days without doing some form of activity and I become completely unhinged. 2. Popping my cleats mid-way up Draycott Steep

My cycling buddy showed up for aride one weekend with his shoes, helmet, and water bottles. He had made sure he had everything he needed, except his bike. (He usually keeps it in his car, and he had taken it out to do something for his wife, and forgot to put it back in the trunk.) Nobody had a spare in their car.

Ripped my (£4000) bike off my car roof with the height restriction bar at the entrance to a car park a few years ago. The resulting trauma has left me with a permanent fear of EVER driving into car parks with those f***** bars. Bike or no bike.

1-getting stuck out in the "boonies" with no cell signal 2-having to walk miles in road shoes 3-having to fix a punctured tire during a bike commute when it's 0 degrees C 4-fixing a tubeless tire puncture and the sealant won't seal 5-fixing a tubeless tire puncture and running out of CO2 cartridges trying to get the bead to seat properly into the rim.

I agree with Dan, Bonking is my biggest fear! That slow spiral down, legs not working, focus evaporating. Mine is accompanied by aches and pains. And at least a day to fully recover. Si, a problem with my bike is a god send, as that is followed by my favorite, upgrade time!

My biggest fear is getting soaking wet and cold. And please make a video or a playlist of GCN's golden moments. This should include clips like Si's sweaty armpits, Oliver running (you could even add a clip of Steve Jones from EMBN running on treadmill), Matthew failing to clip in etc.

The second place inspiration photo, is from the Mount Stromlo Observatory, on Mount Stromlo, on the edge of Canberra in Australia. The Observatory was destroyed by bush fires in 2003. Mount Stromlo is a Cat 4 3.8km climb, with great views at the top of the Australian bush, surrounding Canberra. I've done the climb about five times and would suggest that the GCN crew comes over to Aus and gets into a few favourite Australian segments!

My greatest fear while still riding my brakeless fixed gear is breaking or dropping my chain on a descent, but overcame it twice already. Learned how to deal with it when it happened. My “do not fear” mantra always worked and keeps me calm. My biggest fear on my road bike is bonking hard and being able to get home, which also happened, my wife picked me up at a gas station (petrol station for you).

My biggest fear is grinding my way up a hill when I hear another cyclist approaching from behind, suddenly I hear this little voice saying, "take him dad", and "dad" passes me towing his son in a trailer. Mortifying!!

My biggest fear is planning a big ride only to get ill or have something come up which means I can't do it. For 3 years I have put off my plans to do lands end to John o groats because of this fear. I finally managed to get over this fear last year and planned it, put £800 down for the ride and then the world's biggest illness cancelled my ride!!
