automatic slim 1027 it’s all personal preference I personally will never carry a 9mm I’m awkward the 40 recoil helps me shoots faster and I can put shoots on top of each other with a 40 I can’t do that with a 9 only 9mm that I have shot that I was accurate with was a glock 19 gen 4 but my fns 40 will always be top dog for me
@tayallen7986
@tayallen7986 5 жыл бұрын
automatic slim 1027 never said the more recoil the more accurate I shoot im saying the recoil impulse from the 40 helps me shoot better than the recoil impulse of a 9mm & I’ve owned Rugers I still own a Ruger sr9c & a Ruger sr40 full size my girlfriend carry the sr9c and I shoot both and the sr40 is more accurate in my hands but my fns 40 is more accurate IN MY HANDS than both but to say one cartridge is more accurate than the other is stupid
@tayallen7986
@tayallen7986 5 жыл бұрын
automatic slim 1027 your just not a accurate shooter with a 40 and that’s fine 40 cal isn’t for everybody some ppl prefer 44 magnum over anything and they can shot pin holes in anything with it and it recoils more than both doesn’t mean it’s more accurate than 40 or 9 it’s just more accurate in there hands
@KSTrekker
@KSTrekker 4 жыл бұрын
Same here. I shoot my G27 consistently better than any of my Glocks in 9mm. Can I shoot faster? No. More accurate? Probably not. But I typically have more stray rounds with 9mm because I'm trying to go too fast. 40 makes you slow down. There are so many videos out there now from many different KZfaqrs where it's more about making the steel ring than real shooting. We should all train to stop the threat, not see how fast we can do a mag dump. I'm less concerned about a flat shooting 9mm that doesn't stop the threat than I am about placing 1 or 2 well-placed shots that stops the threat in his tracks.Caliber preferences aside, the 9mm will always be inferior to the .40 S&W, it's just physics. It does not deliver the same muzzle energy.

In the 1990s I had the Ruger 85 I believe it was , basically a stainless steel heavy 9mm. I ran into a used Glock 23 at a gun shop and decided to buy it. Shooting it I didn't even notice the recoil or pay attention to it. The gun just shot well. The fact it was a bigger bore was a bonus.

Glock 23 was my first gun. Bought it in 1999 on a lark after my buddy bought a gun. I think my total time spent "researching" was 5 mins reading the covers of gun magazines in a grocery store. All these years and 7 guns later, it's still far and away my favorite gun. It's the gun next to my bed at night. It's the gun I take in the car on trips. There's smaller guns I slip in my pocket when I head to the liquor store at night. There's bigger guns I take to the range to blow off steam. But when I really feel like I may wind up in trouble, when I'm making a cash transaction in the Home Depot parking lot, or when I'm checking the house at night it's ALWAYS the Glock 23. I love everything about the gun and I will NEVER sell it.

In California, considering the 10 round maximum capacity law, the .40 feels like a better deal because 10 rounds is not that far from the "real" maximum capacity in the rest of the country. Buying a 9mm gun in California with 10 maximum rounds while in the rest of the country same gun can have 17 rounds kinda sucks, no matter how awesome the gun is.

He explains why a lot of people and law enforcement agencies are making the move back to 9mm. Round technoligy has advanced to the point where 9mm, .40, and .45 will all kill you if you place your rounds in the right places. Because of this you need to think what's the next advantage? It's now magazine capacity which is why 9mm is becoming the most popular pistols. I own 9mm, .40, and .45 and love them all. I carry a 9mm Glock 17 on duty, the 9mm Glock 43 as my ankle backup gun, the .40 cal Glock 23 off duty (sometimes my Glock 43 if I'm in shorts and a tee shirt), and when it comes to going to the range I like shooting .45 from either my 1911 or Glock 21 (yes it's possible to love both 1911's and Glocks just like it's possible to like all three of these rounds). I carried my Glock 21 for about a year on duty, but switched back to the Glock 17 soley based on magazine capacity. I can carry more ammo, that's it. I plan on going to the Glock 34 for my duty pistol once I figure out how to buy it without the wife finding out....

Just bought my first Glock 23, used, and here is a video on it. Fantastic! Previously owned a Taurus 38 sp and a cheap 9mm. Had to sell them both. Looking forward to getting to shoot my Glock. Watching a lot of videos and trying to learn as much as I can. Thanks for this video.

My most heartbreaking gun moment was consolidating all my '40 stuff and switching over to 9mm. I love my '40s but, I was shooting my 9mm CZ's more and .40 was just getting too expensive. My CCW guns now are G19s but it just doesn't make me feel as warm and fuzzy as my G23.

Hickok is the man, and favorite KZfaqr by far. Thank you, sir, for your thoughtful, informative, and enjoyable content. So very refreshing in contrast to so many hateful "experts" spewing condescending, dogmatic, opinions related to brand, caliber, etc.. I, myself, love to shoot. Period. I love the .40 S&W, to be honest, and I have no apologies for it. Pound for pound, round for round..you're not gonna beat it. And I own 9mm, .45acp hand guns as well, and they are a joy to shoot, but that is my opinion. Doesn't count for much. Lol!!! I know if I have to defend my family or myself and that .40 has to roll..its gonna be a rough time for Mr. Bad Guy (to coin a Hickok phrase). Of course the same can be said of any of the popular calibers with modern ammo. Have fun, train, and shoot what you like. Thank God we still live in a country where we can enjoy that. Thanks for the excellent channel, Hickok45!

I really enjoyed this revisit Hickok. Could you possibly revisit the sig sauer p380 titanium rainbow again. also the smith & Wesson sd40 or sd9? Thanks boss man and son for the great work and effort! and I agree what your son said about the 9 vs 40 and the easability of the 9mm to key shots down range easier and more quickly.

AHH How soon they forget. The FBI Miami shootout, where several agents were killed was one of the reasons for the test the FBI did on firearm calibers. The 9 mm was found lacking in the tests as it was during the shootout when it appeared to have little immediate effect on the suspects. The 10 mm was born from that study, then shortened to become the .40 S & W. I have carried the .40 on duty for almost 30 years and will continue.

dwheeler016 I carry a Glock 32 in .357 Sig. But I also know that there isn't a cartridge that has had more research and money spent improving it than the 9. Therefore, the 9, 40 and 45 are all very effective. I just think the 357 Sig is better.

Back in that day all you had was pretty much FMJ. Compare FMJ .40 to a FMJ 9mm. Yeah .40 is better. But get a good updated high quality 9mm and u have a good caliber. This is coming from a .40 guy. I love 40 but the 9 has come a very long way since the Miami shootout.

I've gone away from 40 a few times but always come back to it. I've settled back on 40 as my primary round again. I think that little extra power is worth it and in the right gun I find it's just as easy to shoot. I can always load them down a little for range use

Glock 23 was my first Glock. But, over time I found myself never shooting it or wanting to practicing with it. My go-to is my G19. And I have several other 9mm pistols. I came to the same conclusion as you, and it came down to the fact that the similar mags made my life more complicated. I sold my G23 and now I'm flush with extra 40 ammo that I need to sell. Good video!

For anybody who wants to think that 9MM is just as good as .40 S&W, watch Paul Harrell's comparison "Police Pistols: 9MM vs .40 S&W". All your confidence in 9MM will go straight out the window.
@strat1080
@strat1080 7 жыл бұрын
Vincent Slone, Ive seen that video and it was pretty eye opening. Im still not a believer in the 9mm. The 9mm makes sense for a newer shooter or somebody who is not that into guns. As Paul Harrell demonstrated, a practiced shooter can shoot the 40 as effectively as the 9mm. I think the 40 is the perfect round for a semi auto. Same energy levels as a 45 but in a smaller frame with more ammo. It is a little snappy but its not that big of a deal. A lot of people dont tealize that the 155-165 are actually packing 357 Mag energy levels. The 155 gr Gold Dot is rated at 1200 fps. About the same energy as the classic 158 gr 357 Mag load.
@hoverluver
@hoverluver 7 жыл бұрын
@Vincent Sloan agreed. Well said. The 9mm is fun to shoot and if you are accurate with it it may be the caliber for you. I am still a fan of my Glock 23 and carry it over the 9mms that I own.

Thystaff Thywill the only problem with your comment is the Federal HST in 40S&W. Everytime someone talks about "game changing modern bullets" they completely forget that the larger calibers get the same bullet design in a larger package.

iv'e had the 19 and the 23 Vincent. i'm all in on the .40. watch hickok45 video and see the difference when he shoots a two liter with a nine versus a 40. thats why i prefer the extra power. i live where i'm out in the woods alot. fishing on salmon rivers, mushroom picking in the woods, that sort of thing. i was steelhead fishing a couple days ago and looked down at the ground and saw the biggest bear tracks i've seen in years. i reached and brushed the grip of my G23 and was grateful it wasn't a 9mm...

John you better read the numbers between a 40 Smith & Wesson and a 45 ACP, 155 grain and the 165 grain hit harder than a 45 230 grain bullet. 40 Smith & Wesson is not a compromise cartridge it is superior to the 9mm by far, and the 45 ACP.
