I can't decide whether Doug's chat is more like thousands of people screaming over each other or more like a hivemind with a very distinct personality who just doesn't fucking listen

“Krillin contributes nothing” “Gohan needs a new strategy; he’s completely useless” “Piccolo isn’t doing anything” “This story makes no sense” Are we sure Doug hasn’t seen DBZ?

Lore-accurate details: - Piccolo primarily defending and using ranged attacks - Multiple tail grabs - Saibamen and Pikmin are both strange plant-like minion creatures - Vegeta repeatedly beating Goku within an inch of his life - Kazuya AI using beams and ranged blasts repeatedly similar to Vegeta - Goku losing 2 stocks immediately due to being worn out from using the Kaioken in past fights - Kazuya's final smash is the Galick Gun - Useless side character uses a sword to cut off Vegeta's tail - Vegeta is hit by the spirit bomb - Vegeta doesn't actually die from the spirit bomb and Kazuya flees to the right of the screen representing Vegeta leaving Earth - Goku and Gohan train against eachother in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber during the Cell arc - Gohan immediately walking off to right represents his unwillingness to fight in the Cell arc

As a DB fan it's always a joy to see someone get introduced to DBZ, then make the stunning realization that there is an entire series before Z. Brilliant.

Doug not knowing Dragon Ball Z is a sequel and being confused about every single detail that is only explained in the other show is absolutely legendary

Clearly, Twitch chat killing themselves twice at the beginning of the fight was Goku using his Kaioken. Kirby killing Kazuya with the ultra sword is also obviously a reference to Yajirobe cutting off Vegeta's tail. At the end, the Hadoken (Kamehameha) manages to hit Kazuya (Vegeta ) and doesn't kill him, but it weakens him and he exits stage right, swearing revenge. Bravo, Twitch chat. Masterful storytelling.

To this day Piccolo nonchalantly blowing the Moon up with no repercussions or questions is my favourite DBZ thing.

It’s so fun watching the lab rats of twitch chat obey dougdoug’s whims, and at the same time control him, like a symbiotic relationship

As someone who's also never seen Dragon Ball Z, this was incredibly confusing and I loved every second of it

DougDoug is a genuinely great story teller for taking incomprehensible Twitch chat hivemind hijinks and DBZ lore to create a story

I love how Krillin, the Level 1 Kirby CPU, managed to somehow score 2 out of the 3 kills on Vegeta. The fact that the second one was with a sword makes it even better.

I don't know what's more entertaining; watching Doug and Twitch chat try and defeat an AI using only script commands, or Doug attempting to reconstruct the entire Saiyan Saga using only Smash Bros characters, having never seen Dragon Ball Z.

I cannot express how happy it makes me as a DB fan to see Doug react to DBZ with total confusion. Also: "Does death mean anything in this show?" As a matter of fact....

Doug completely ignoring chat telling him it's a sequel and getting really confused is what I live for

As a major DBZ fan, watching Dougdoug trying (with very mixed success) to interpret the cliffnotes version of DBZ’s story is equal parts infuriating and hilarious XD

Its amusing to think that technically the one that did the most work against the level 9 Kazuya was the level 1 Kirby that was supposed to be useless, because it somehow took two of the stocks.

Can we talk about how canon that ending was? Kirby (Krillin) using a sword to attack Vegeta, Gohan running out of lives (him falling unconscious after getting his tail cut) and Goku and Krillin being the last ones standing

I still come back to this video occasionally just because I was the one who suggested final smashes for the Vegeta fight. It was fun to have the chance to contribute to the saga that is Twitchchat Z.

Watching the stream and hearing Doug go through like 3 arcs of DBZ while completely baffled but still finding a way to apply it to Chris Smash was truly something to behold, and this vid is a perfect summary of the chaos and the triumph

Honestly, it makes sense why Doug and Chat would actually work fairly well against a level 9 CPU. Fighting game bots try to memorize and predict your behavioral patterns so they can exploit them, especially on the higher difficulties - so by doing things completely randomly, you may have given the CPU a harder opponent than someone who would've otherwise been really trying to win with predictable strategies

F for Akira Toriyama. He's already rolling in his grave after listening to Doug's knowledge of his masterpiece. Rest in peace, master.

Gohan aka Donkey Kong aka AI instantly KOing himself, taking himself out of combat rather than fighting Goku is so lore accurate lmao

doug's ability to make something interesting that even HE doesn't understand is incredible to me.

Honestly I'm actually amazed at how well that last fight followed the script.

The best part about the final battle is that Goku used a Kamehameha (Hadoken) to finish the fight, while Vegeta used a Galick Gun (purple beam thing Kazuya does)

You may not realise it, but when you start watching Doug's stream, you stop being yourself. Everybody watching the stream becomes a singularity all with the same personality. Thoughts. Emotions. Memories.

I love how the fact that Doug does not understand the concept of a sequel has accidentally created some of his best content

On this episode of DougDoug, Doug doesn’t realize that DBZ is the sequel to Dragon Ball. A show about fighting and magical wish granting Dragon Balls. But even though I’ve watched the show, a lot of the events that happened in the show seem a lot wilder when read back to me. 😂

As someone who has never watched dbz, the phrase, "Piccolo, who had been watching Gohan, DESTROYED THE MOON" hit like a Truck

I think the fact that Twitch Chat and a broken AI beat a level 9 Kazuya CPU is actually amazing

Im amazed they even stood a chance against kazuya, like level 9 kazuya is nuts. The single strongest ai in the game, so much so even pro players lost to it! I guess in a 3v1 the ai just doesnt know what to do lol

How was the final battle so incredibly accurate, like right down to the end where Vegita survives then leaves

After the Mario Maker 2 Endless Easy Incident, I’m glad to see both Doug’s Twitch Chat and his dumb & easy A.I. working together to beat an even smarter and harder A.I.

I can't imagine a sequel to this, Doug's going to go insane if he has to adapt Namek into Smash Bros.

The credits were actually a _fantastic_ ending for this incredible video. That was amazing. For context on the plot, Dragon Ball Z is the sequel to Dragon Ball. By using the Dragon Ball Z plot, you put yourself in the middle of a bunch of characters you've never heard of. I hope you try something like this again some time! Avatar: The Last Airbender might make for an interesting story to use for a similar stream.

I laughed, cried, had a beach arc, went through a training arc, and skipped so much filler. Thank you, DougDoug & Chat for providing me with such a unique experience.

DougDoug, you GOTTA do all of DBZ with TwitchChat in Smash. Do the whole series but just with TwitchChat and sometimes an AI vs up to 5 CPU at once at one point, and later even Squad Strike if needed

the fact that Kazugeta’s Final Smash looked like something between a death beam barrage and a Galick Gun, and that Ryukuchat’s Final Smash looked like a Kamehameha is great lore, they did the beam clash and Ryukuchat used the Kaiodivorce X4 Edit: Kirbirillin used the Destructo-Sword to cut off Kazugeta’s tail, while Gohonkey Song does nothing

Twitch chat is so skillful! The way they strategically jump into the void to avoid enemies is extremely smart.

it has been said before but wow doug it's a very talented entertainer. his ability to make up stuff on the run that somehow sounds logical and at the same time engage with chat keeping things fresh and fun is unmatched

Seeing DougDoug trying to figure out DBZ is both painful and hilarious. For DBZ or rather the whole Dragonball Franchise, there is no overall plot, it’s mostly a character and lore driven series where the characters go through adventures to get stronger in order to defend their home [Earth], friends, loved ones, and [directly or indirectly] the universe they live in by various threats or challenges to overcome. As well as with the mystical orbs, the dragonballs, with the eternal dragon named Shenron, he has the ability to make wishes but only if it’s within the creator’s power to do so [thus, it can be upgraded]. It’s mostly the supporting element of the show and it can be involved one way or another. That’s as simple as it can be for as much as I can do to describe it. I just think DougDoug chose the wrong anime to reference for the idea he attempted to come up with lol

The inclusion of DBZ and finding out you know nothing about it was what made this so damn hilarious! And the insane way you came up with justifications for the character choices, that was amazing! Felt like I got a surprise video on top of the one I was already watching. Not sure when I'll ever see anything that tops this for laughs!

Update, for everyone in here who's interested, Doug said on the Peggle tournament/battle royale that he is probably going to end up watching Dragon Ball Z. Mostly because he just wants to understand the storyline and actually understand wtf is going on because the stuff presented in the video apparently really piqued his interest, lmao

It was like re-watching the show while the text-to-speech guy read the plot and Doug explained everything again to chat. This was very nostalgic.

The fact that "earth's dragon balls" is in the credits as a character made me laugh more than it should've.

The final battle against Vegeta/Kazuya was hype. The fight between Goku/Ryu and Gohan/DK was damn near canon. The credits made me feel like I was watching Adult Swim in my 20's again. Also, thanks for the abridged version of DBZ S1. Might make more sense when you watch it, lol.

I think DougDoug hasn't realised this, but Kazuya is the best level 9 CPU out of all the computers. He does insane twitter clips and destroyed top players lol, and he happened to pick him as the final battle. Perfection.
