If there's anything I hate more than acne that for sure is dark spots (some call them hyperpigmentation, others - acne scars, but no matter how we call them we can all agree they're annoying). If an average pimple lasts 2, 3 weeks the dark spots and the scars literally last forever. The worst thing is it's so hard and painful to remove them. There're few things I've done to get rid of them - strong chemical peels, micro-needling and PRP (aka Vampire Facial) with dermatologist and glycolic acid cream at home. While the treatments with my dermatologist were super helpful, they were also really expensive.. Unlike them the glycolic acid cream that I've been using at home is much more affordable and if I have to be honest the result is really good! Not only that it gets rid of the spots left by the acne but it also deeply moisturises my skin, evens the skin tone and it gives me amazing radiants. It's basically magical if you know how to use it. Hi, I actually wanted to know if it's okay if I use glycolic acid cream 6%. And use a facewash that contains salcylic acid. Also is it necessary to use sunscreen every morning after I use the cream at night. And can I use the cream all over my face or just the effected areas? Sorry I have too many queries but I wanted to make sure I cover them up in one comment. Thankyou

Hey, no worries x 6% is fine 👍🏼 and yes, you can use it all over your face.. it's actually much better.. it will evens your skin tone and will give your skin radiance ✨😍 So I think I've seen products that in the ingredients list have both salicylic acid and glycolic acid, so I think you can use them together + the cleanser doesn't stay on your skin for long, you wash it straight away which means the salicylic acid doesn't penetrate into your skin. However to be sure just check online.. if few reliable websites say you can use them together then it should be safe. Regarding the sunscreen.. I personally don't apply it everyday. If I know I'm going to a mall or in someone's house.. there's no sun there so I won't need it. But if I know I will be somewhere outdoor without shadow.. I would 100% apply it. When I am at the beach I wear a hat and re-apply the protection few times. I would advise you to maybe keep it in your bag and whenever you feel like there's too much sun you can apply it.

Hi beautiful! I’ve been using GA & retinol pads for 3 days now and I’m finding I have a few dry spots. Would you recommend reducing the usage of the pads or waiting until the dryness goes away to start using it again and add it into my routine little by little? Would love to hear from you 🙏🏼

Hi Daniela, I'm sorry for the late reply, I was travelling! I haven't ever used retinol but I know GA usually hydrates the skin so the dryness must be from the retinol. I would probably use it less times a week and see how it goes.

Oh, wow.. ok, so if you have been using retinol for a year means that probably these pads are too strong for your skin? It could be the GA actually.. if it's a high concentration in the pads.

Thank you so much ♥️ I use glycolic acid 1 to 3 times a week (basically whenever I remember, some weeks I don't apply it at all). The night I apply glycolic acid I simply don't apply benzoyl peroxide. Although acne .org suggests that you apply both together.. I've done it few times but my skin gets a bit red and irritated so I just decided to use them separately.

Hi, Tiffany. Yeah, I use them together.. it's fine. I think you only can't use it when you first start using BP because your skin is irritated from BP.. but once your skin gets used to BP (after 1, 2 months) you can add glycolic acid to your routine. I actually mix it with my moisturiser as I find 10% GA a bit too strong for me to use it on its own.

Thank you so much! As far as I know it’s safe.. it depends what’s in your moisturizer I guess. If it’s labeled as ‘brightening’ or ‘for acne prone skin’ or ‘for hyperpigmentation’ it might not be a good idea. I personally mix it with my moisturizer (I use Cerave moisturizing cream or the lotion) and it’s perfectly fine 👍🏻

I didn't understand your question.. You can apply it on an old scar but unfortunately I don't think it would help getting rid of it.

I don't remember either 😅 but yeah, in general don't apply it straight away. Doesn't have to be exactly an hour, just in general leave some time between both.

Thank you so much, Grace. I will be very honest .. it takes FOREVER 🤯 I started using GA in March last year, then I had 2 micro-needling + PRP treatments in June and December (they helped a lot!). And I think by the end of December my skin was great.. I still have just a little bit left between my eyebrows but most of it is gone.

Thank you!! Yes, you can switch to 12% but keep in mind that is quite strong. The highest I've used was 10% and I was mixing it with my moisturiser. And yes, you can leave it overnight.. that's how GA is used actually :)

yes, it should be fine. Use 8% - 10%.. if it's a cream mix a very little amount of it with your moisturiser.. see how it feels the next morning and keep increasing gradually. By acne scars.. you mean.. holes in the skin or the dark red/brown spots? I am asking because.. it will help with the spots but if you have holes (scars) you will need a stronger treatment (like micro-needling) with a dermatologist.

@@nadiazayatmakeup i have red spots on my face of acne but they are not that much severe as you had but they exist and also have pores on my checks and my skin is super sensitive it gets red even in sunlight and heat of cooking so i asked that will it be harsh for me

Hey..,umm so I'm having acne problems from 2 years now..,i used many products..but they didn't help much...so now I'm gonna try benzoyl peroxide with cetaphil cleanser and moisturizer...and i have hyperpigmentation too...and i have a very oily skin...,so how should i use glycolic acid in this routine?...like when and how many times should i apply this in this new routine...after using benzoyl peroxide or before using?...and I'll use the glycolic acid 6% cream..so can you tell me how to add this in the routine??? I'll be very grateful please do reply..

So I used it the way acne.org recommends.. They say NOT to use it the first month or two of your benzoyl peroxide treatment because your skin is too irritated. So once your skin is used to BP and it isn't that irritated (it took me 2 months) you can start adding glycolic acid into the routine. I used to mix it with my moisturiser and apply it 10 min AFTER benzoyl peroxide. You can apply it instead of the moisturiser but that depends on the % use. The one I was using was high so I couldn't apply it on its own, I always had to mix it with the moisturiser.

But my skin feels oily ...... What did u mean by Cetaphil cleanser is it for oily skin or did u use the gentle cleanser Should I use any other products What is your condition now did it get better..... It's not that strong to get rid of scars (acne holes).. You will need to visit a dermatologist and get some treatments done. There's nothing that you can use at home that would get rid of scares.

I think it should be okay for you to use it. It will take not days but months to see a difference. I can’t tell exactly how many months as it really depends on how dark your spots are, how many times a week you will use it and what %.

Yes, you can use it. When you buy the product there will be instructions how to use it. Just ask for products (like cream, toner) with glycolic acid in the pharmacy and they will assist you.

it will take longer than few weeks, maybe an year, it really depends on how many marks you have and how dark they are.
