She's deaf and an amputee (and a mom since October of last year)! And she did an absolutely incredible job in Echo! She's breaking barriers and even though i don't know her, I can't hep but to be proud of her!

Sorry in advance, I didn't know that she was actually a deaf person, I thought she was just acting in the film, but that's what makes the film Echo even more extraordinary because she is someone who is very extraordinary too and I really enjoyed watching Echo, too bad the episodes are too short.

I have never been so proud of a person I have never met before! First of all, I LOVE Maya as a character. Seeing Alaqua so authentically portraying herself and Maya is AMAZING!!! She makes the disabled community very proud!!!!!!

He expressions are just top tier. Like her sign language is naturally showing emotions the non verbal communication is amazing she really immersed me as a real character if she is non actor she has A LOT OF TALENT!!!!

I'm so happy for Alaqua Cox! I remember an interview where she said she was working a job she wasn't happy with and then she got this opportunity! I'm so happy she landed this role and aced it! 🙌

First Native and deaf superhero, yes; first deaf superhero at all in the MCU, no, that was Makkari from Eternals. Which says something about how much Eternals had an impact, I guess. :D

Clint Barton AKA Hawkeye was portrayed as a deaf super hero who uses a hearing aid in the Hawkeye miniseries. Maya Lopez is the first profoundly deaf superhero who started out as a supervillain. Every Marvel super hero has a disability that's what makes me like them more. They All have issues to overcome.

It's really incredible that this is her first role. The character is so guarded and complex. And she gives such a layered performance, it's a beautiful sight. Her smile as Maya is completely different from her smile as Alaqua. That's how in character she was.

I thought Ms. Cox had a dual disability. If she does she has an excellent prosthetic leg. Her deafness is genuine. I found myself rooting for Echo after she shot the Kingpin.

Alaqua is amazing but don't forget her interpreter, she doesn't just say what Alaqua says, she even adds Alaqua's emotions. I've seen many interviews and just love how her interpreter talks, you really feel Alaqua's emotions through her voice.

Bigger than anything on Hulu and Disney+.. well, I’m definitely now looking forward for the return of the punisher daredevil reborn. Yes Marvel is back. They never went away and don’t forget the X-Men are coming very soon..

She's not mute, she just doesn't use her voice to speak. Lots of deaf people use their voice to laugh, vocalize, etc, meaning they aren't mute. She isn't speaking here though, that's her interpreter

is it just me or these hosts are assholes without even noticing, I think they should have realized that her interpreter is speaking for her and also signing to let her know what they are saying at the same time and so they should have taken it a bit slower than they would normally speak to someone who doesn't sign..that been said I thought she was great on the show and I wish her success in her career

they did take all that into account. it's in fact a lot easier for the interpreter when the speaker/signer talks at a normal pace as opposed to unnaturally slow. they weren't rude at all, and i'm positive they got briefed on how to use an interpreter before they got started if it was their first time

@@Yoursucksdeeznuts Exactly and I'm free to call out yours. That Marvel and Disney found a talented indigenous and deaf actress to portray Echo shows their willingness to err on the side of reality. The Echo from Marvel comics could sing and speak without revealing to anyone she was profoundly deaf. She was proud of her indigenous heritage. Ms. Cox is an indigenous American as well. I don't care why you think her work is trash, however I would like to hear your reasoning on why the mini series is no good. As I have two full Cherokee great great great grandmothers I really want to know. I never had the chance to meet them however I inherited their ability to walk while making less noise than the wind around me.

I think the most Disney and Marvel do is pg13. I saw nothing erotic in Echo. I like the content aimed at adult audiences. I liked Disney since I was 4 60 years ago.
