Check before you order filters. Some are non removable. The air box is a sealed unit.

Wish I had seen this years ago! Another little tip I learned when changing the filters on my ‘02… When removing the 7mm screws on the access cover, take out the 2 screws that are easily accessible. But for that 3rd screw that’s harder to get to above the “hump” on the floor, DO NOT totally remove the screw. Just loosen it enough to swing the cover out of the way to access the filters. Save yourself a lot of time and headaches trying to rethread that 3rd screw.
@mrtools2
@mrtools2 2 жыл бұрын
On mine the 3rd (difficult) screw was missing, so after changing the filters and reinstalling the two easily-accessible screws, I inserted a carpenter’s wedge between the carpeting and the bottom of the cover to snug it up. Next time I need to change these filters I’ll simply remove the wedge, remove the 2 easy screws and be done with the task in under 15 minutes.

On my truck when I got the the third screw, the one that is hard to get to I did one swift yank, pulled the cover off around the screw, did the air filter then put it back up with only 2 screws instead of three, now I never have to deal with that headache or think twice about it again

Had a real mouse problem because the 2002 sat unused for a long time. The smell was about as bad as a box of cat pee. Paid to have the system cleaned out, but the smell was still so bad my wife wouldn't ride in the truck. Check the repair order and noticed they hadn't replaced the cabin filters. Followed your instructions and it was a no brainer. Gonna visit the shop this afternoon and show them the pictures. Thanks a lot Tony.

Thanks so much for this video, it's just what I needed! I already had bought the filters months ago but was dreading trying to figure it out. Thanks to your video, it was super easy. Looks like it was changed once in it's life, a 1999 Silverado, because the 2nd screw from the left was missing. (The one closest to the center tunnel that is hardest to get to). But this is the first time I've changed it since I've had the truck in 2010. TONS of leaves, dirt, pine needles etc. It blows twice as powerfully now! Thanks!!!

I’m so happy I happened upon your video! I followed what you did on my 2001 Chevy Silverado 1500 that my dad left me. It was an Arizona truck on 5 acres of desert. I think 2 of those acres came out when I pulled the 2 filters out!! I had already replaced 2 actuators and that helped with the air flow a tiny bit but when I turned on the air after replacing the filters and vacuuming a ton of sand, it about blew my doors off! Lol ( more of a p.g. Version of your other commenter!😇) thank you!

Thank you for this video. I was just going through some random videos when your video had came up on my rotation. I had never given any thought that my 2001 Suburban that I had bought two months ago would have cabin air filters. But thanks to your video, not only did I discover that I did have these filters, but also had given me the knowledge to know where they were, and how to remove them. I'm now on my way to the parts store to pick up a set. My old ones were very dirty, but I could tell that they've been replaced before.

Thanks a million for the video. Got up yesterday morning to go on a road trip with our 2002 GMC. The outside temperature was 20 degrees F. Started the truck to warm it up and 15 minutes later it was still cold as ice inside. There wasn't enough air coming out of the vents to blow a match out. The manual was next to useless on how to locate the cabin filter let alone replace it. Thanks to your video we are back in business and air through the vents is back to normal

I just replaced the filters on my 2001 Silverado and this video was very helpful. My truck doesn't have the center console as the one in the Video and it has a 4th screw holding in the cover that was on the far end of the drivers side. Other than that, everything went just great. Turning on the blower motor will blow out the leaves that are still in the duct and easy to vacuum up afterwards.

Very much appreciated video to help me replace the 2 filters in my 2001 GMC Sierra C3. That 3rd screw nearest the driver's side was evil and I could not get the socket on it, but I was able to leave it in place and with the other 2 removed, could get behind the panel and remove the smaller screw holding the filter cover. Job accomplished!!

You made a nice video! Good explanation, good presentation. I did mine, I installed a K & N, it actually slows the air flow a bit more than the cheaper ones so something to keep in mind. Make sure you order the two small filters. For some reason, the filter book at my local O'Reilly's sells a single filter for my 2002 Dirty that is LARGER than the two original filters combined and the way you have to angle the filters up and back into the housing will not allow the single larger filter to be pushed up in there. I thought maybe they figgered out some economical way to turn the two filters into a single filter, so I bought it after visually checking. It's close, but not correct. You need the two smaller filters. Now I gotta go back. Because there's no such thing as a single trip to the gottdang parts house.

Excellent video also on the fram filters I purchased they had a foam pad around the outside. This made sliding the second filter in difficult due to the foam catching on each other. Remedied it by tearing off a piece of the box the width of the filter and slid it up against the first filter then the second one slid in smooth. Then remove the card

I had low cooling after 5+ years of owning my 2001 K2500HD Chevy crew cab and water would drain out of the evaporator core for a half hour when I stopped on vacation for breaks and meals. Then it would work fine again for an hour or two. I looked in the operator's manual and sure enough, they said it had a cabin air filter (actually 2 of them). Replaced them and it works like new. Your video explains exactly how to access them through the bottom cover of the HVAC system. At just over 10 years old, I have about 115,000 miles on it and still the factory brakes are about half worn out! It's my family station wagon and construction vehicle.

turning the blower on doesnt get all the crap out. I did that before i removed the blower motor. but when i took the blower motor/fan out, I had all kinds of leaves and debris stuck inside fan basket, as well as, the fan blades themselves were caked with gunk and dirt. I'm sure all this reduced airflow as well. Just a good idea to remove blower motor and clean the fins at the same time you replace the filters.

I used to have a 98 Silverado that did not have air filters. I wish that it did because it was a lot of work cleaning the core with a brush and a water hose. I now have a 2001 Sierra and it does have a filter. I took it out and replaced it. The good news is with the filter vs no filter it saved me a ton of time and cleaning the core. Replacing is the easy part. Putting the cover back on and alining the screws was a bear. I ended up just leaving the middle screws out and only putting the end screws to the cover back on. It works fine and it's tight enough without any rattling noise. Good luck to anyone trying to put the cover back on with all the screws. Have fun!

I know, I replaced my blower motor resistor a while back and it gave me a small view of the evaporator coil. I got some no rinse coil cleaner and sprayed it good, let it sit and then ran the air. Bubbles blew out of my supply vents into the cab for a while but it works much better ever since.
