GMC Terrain wipers not working and TPMS repair and somebody "fixed" it after a fender bender

Today I will take you along as I repair one of my previous rebuilds. It is a 2015 GMC Terrain Denali. The wipers are not working and the TPMS light is on. I'll show you a cheap and even free way to get the wipers working. It also had a run in with another car and someone else fixed it and didn't do the best work so we will have a look at that as well. The wipers and TPMS for that matter will be the same for any 2010-2017 GMC terrain or Chevrolet Equinox.

Old wiper assemblies had metal bushes and clips. They lasted the life of the vehicle. Here we have another case of the good stuff being replaced by plastic, which is slowly taking over vehicle parts. Next thing, the entire vehicle (other than mechanical parts) will be plastic, probably 3D printed on a giant 3D printer.

I had an engineer from an unnamed manufacturer say they switched to plastic ball cups for when idiots try and scrape ice off thier windshield. But they are of course frozen in place and the motor binding the transmission breaks more stuff than the plastic cup.

When it comes to GM and recalls they are actually pretty good. My mother-in-law had a 2000 Grand Am, she got a recall notice in I think 2018, but the car was scrapped in 2017 after the engine blew up with over 500,000 km on it, but even though the 3.8 was blown and knocking it still ran.

I was part of the big G-body recall back in the late 80s early 90s…. Rear backing plates were the culprits….. all you had to do was set up an appointment, show up with a new set of rear shoes and General Motors did the rest🎉…. Too bad they didn’t recall the rear frame rails and body mounts…

In the interest of high quality work, the valve stem should have been changed as well. They are cheap insurance against a leaky valve stem and the whole assembly can be screwed together and pulled into place eliminating the chance of dropping the tiny screw in the tire. We also use small bolt cutters to cut off the sensor before pulling out the old stem. No lost T10 bits in Narnia that way.

So, doing a little house cleaning around my desk today and what do I find? A recall notice for my 2015 Equinox for ball joint defect in the wiper module that" could result in the separation of one or more ball joints from their sockets during wiper operation." Like their air bag recalls there's no parts at this time for the fix.

you made it sound like the insurance Co is the one to blame for the "POOR" repairs, last I checked the body shop does the repair, I would be interested to see what the insurance Co wrote for the damage estimate as sometimes we know the owner elects to take the vehicle to a shop that does not repair the car back to pre-accident condition to either save the deductible or profit from the loss.... and yes I'm an insurance adjuster with over 30 years writing estimates.
@vehcor
@vehcor Жыл бұрын
They are indeed the ones to blame. As you know adjusters pressure customers to take cars to their direct repair shops. This is what they turn out… the shop sucks and so do the insurance companies that prey on uneducated consumers. The owner was told they had to take it to that shop by the insurance company.
@jim030362
@jim030362 Жыл бұрын
@@vehcor Not sure what the laws are in your state but where I come from the insurance Co is not allowed to steer vehicles to DRP shops. as a field manager if I had a DRP doing work like that they would be removed from the program in 5 sec... don't get me wrong I like watching your videos... but it seems its always the repair shop trying to throw the insurance Co under the bus. I have caught so many repair shops committing fraud, or enhancing damage to drive up the repair cost it would blow your mind. :)
