Just getting into the hobby and have a GMMK Pro on its way. This has got to be one of the most professional, calm, informative, amazing video productions I have ever seen. I can't believe I watched an hour long video on one keyboard. I will happily do it over, and over, and over again. You're it Sam - this is the future of informative videos.

It's so, so sad that the KZfaq algorithm has a burning hatred for videos of this kind. Well researched, well produced, in depth and long af. Keep up the great work :D

Hehe... True! But hey... It's just the algo doing what it needs to keep the majority of people in the platform right? We all know most people have the attention span of a child, so long documentary style video like those in this channel obviously don't work for 95% of people out there... But then again, I don't mind! I'm happy attracting the other smarter 5% who do enjoy in-depth content! ;) And while at it, thank you so much for your support!!!

Young people you seem to notice how algorithms turn your away from videos that are detailed about technology but fail to even think about how KZfaq algorithms keep you away from the things like the complete destruction of your freedoms and being in control your health and welfare. Demonetizing peoples channels, and banning them from free speech and alternative information they go against the man stream Narratives. That are bought and pay for by global corporations and communist China being on the top rung. Wake up kids you about to loose everything and your concerned about vibration in your pudding caps.

Thank you, Thomas! You are indeed correct! My videos are a collection of things one SHOULD NOT DO if he/she wants to become a KZfaq superstar! 😂 But I obviously don't do these videos to build a hit YT channel... The main goal here is to give an honest contribution to the hobby and the community around it (specially to newcomers). The secondary goal is to help demystify some of the hype and FUD propagated by some corners of this community, especially the part about "only the most crazy-expensive and exclusive keyboards being any good", which I obviously disagree with.

This was the best GMMK Pro video I've seen. Absolutely agree on the stock foam muting the board, and I'd like to add that even with all the foam removed it's still the quietest keyboard I own.
@IOSam
@IOSam 3 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much!!! And yeah... I have to say that even after trying other mods (currently playing with other plate materials for example), while they do affect the sound a bit, they cannot make this keyboard much louder. There is something about the choice of materials, manufacturing techniques and design that makes this board intrinsically quieter than other keyboards with similar layout. The funny thing here is that this might have been Glorious intention from the beginning, since they started working on this project at a time when most people in this hobby were stuffing their keyboards with all sorts of materials to kill resonance and ping. In the end, it worked for the GMMK Pro in that regard (a board that is very good in containing hollowness and ping). But then, by the time the keyboard was released, the community had moved on the next "trend", which is to have keyboards that are loud and "poppy". It goes to show the challenges a company like Glorious has to deal with when trying to give enthusiasts what they want. It turns out enthusiasts can be a fickle bunch... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Hehe… Thank you so much my friend!!! For someone who has been making videos that go completely against popular KZfaq “trends” (detailed, in-depth and thoroughly produced for people with real brains, instead of quick, shallow and memes-infested for people with short attention spans), it is refreshing to see that “people like us” still exist and are out there looking for content like this. You can rest assured that any video posted on this channel about anything, will always carry the same amount of production care (products testing, writing, filming, editing, etc.). OK, that's my second comment here, as an update. I have purchased a GMMK Pro, added QMK and VIA to it (there is support now). I can say with 100% certainty that your review was spot on all aspects with this keyboard. Loved your review. I loved every point of your analysis which was far more technical and better than a modern "enthusiast" approach. And I also loved the practicality of your advice ("muted" is not always bad, not having flex is not always bad). Gaskets were invented for sound dampening and absorbing vibrations, and in this keyboard they are used for this purpose. And bottoming out is not an issue if you use proper typing style, switches, and keycaps (not undermining gasket mounting, but really there is no point bashing everything that does not adhere to the "enthusiast principles")! Again - excellent work, that's the only review anyone needs to see about GMMK Pro, and the only one I took into account before making my purchase.
@IOSam

Thank you Sir! Your update and additional feedback is really appreciated! In fact, I am working on an update for this video where I'll finally cover the QMK/VIA flashing procedures (that are mature now), as well as some additional mods (FR4 and PC plates, PE foam pads, etc.), but I'm happy to know that my original analysis of the board has been verified and confirmed by you and so many others here. I do take my time to produce these videos precisely because I want to give an accurate assessment of the products I cover (without the rush, fluff and BS that many so called "enthusiasts" are sometimes guilty of) and it is awesome to see my work paying off! Thank you again for taking the time to share your experience with our community here!!!

I've read a few articles saying this board has pretty significant lag in gaming? Have you experienced this during your testing?
@IOSam
@IOSam 3 жыл бұрын
I saw reports about this as well (I believe Brandon Taylor mentioned something about this with one of the review samples he got), and I suspect that is why you need to update the firmware of the board as soon as you plug it in with the Glorious App installed. Since I did this as soon as I got mine out of the box, I did not perceive any latency issues with my board. But I'll test it specifically for this issue and post any results on my Blog (I'll leave a comment here when ready).

Gotta say… This type of comment right here, is what content creators like me dream about getting whenever they put a new piece of content out! Especially when one produces extremely technical content (such as product reviews and DIY hardware modding guides), that subjugates the content to very specific (and sometimes narrow) needs, increasing the chance it might not be appreciated by its production value and all the research that sits behind it. The realization that there are people like this gentleman/woman/person in the world, that has all the critical thinking capability to separate the subject of the content, from the production value, from the content creator, and evaluate each of these “buckets” by its correct evaluation criteria, is what makes me an optimist about the future of content (and content creators) and that reaffirms my conviction that starting this channel was, not only the right decision for me at the time, but likely one of the best decisions I even made in my life! And for all that, I thank you so much for your sub and for the time you took to leave this amazing piece of feedback Btap!!! Hard to put into words how much I appreciate it!

You have basically described my feelings about this keyboard: this was the perfect "gateway drug" for so many mechanical keyboard enthusiasts in the last 3 years! And the fact that Glorious shipped this thing so undercooked, gave people the perfect reason to get into upgrades and mods (which is where the real fun is within this hobby! :). So, I totally agree with you the the GMMK Pro has secured its honorable place in the history of the mechanical keyboards "renascence" of the last few years! It was the first relatively affordable heavy metal mech that was widely available, and highly "moddable"! Which, in turn, inspired hordes of factories around the world to start making cheaper mechanical keyboards. This hobby probably wouldn't be where it is today without the GMMK Pro!

@@IOSam You're welcome! Right now availability is more of an issue, because there are simply no parts here, (Eastern Europe btw) it is as basic as it gets. Curiously I could buy glorious boards here (just showed up at some sellers) but the switch and keycap choices are terrible. So I think I will wait. Globally I think it has to becoe cheaper over time. It is still a fairly niche hobby so since there is no real mass production especially compared to mainstream electronics I guess higher prices are a must to stay profitable.

I've got the white (silver) board, Kinetic/Tecsee Salmon Switches, a cheap but solid XDA keycap set from Amazon, and it's all running stock. I've watched plenty of videos about modding boards (including this one), but this is the first video that has pretty much convinced me that I should mod the board, but also that I'm prepared to do so. The only thing I'm worried about is how long lubing my switches will take for a beginner (and one without a 'lubing tray'). Great video, 10/10, you've got a new subscriber.
@IOSam
@IOSam Жыл бұрын
Hi J! Thank you for the sub my friend!!! Happy to know this video inspired you to confidently mod your new board! That’s the main goal of this channel: to demystify keyboard modding and show that anyone can improve their typing experience regardless of previous knowledge in tinkering with keyboards. As for lubing switches, yeah… It is a time-consuming affair… No way around it… But it is one of those things you do once and it keeps paying off every day for a very long time! So, it is worth it in the end. As for lubing them without a “lubing station”, it is totally doable, as long as you have a good switch opener that you can also use as a base to keep the bottom housing of the switch seated on. My suggestion is using a regular brush for springs (if you intend to lube them individually as I do) and an eyelash brush for everything else (these are much easier to use than regular brushes and they help you to avoid over-lubing the housing and stem). Both are linked in the video description.

First of all, you have the best YT username EVER!!! And second: yeah... you're right... I wish I had the chops to come up with thumbnails and titles like the almighty Linus (a guy who, unquestionably, deserves to be where he is)! 😂 But man, thank you!!! Feedback like this is what aspiring content creators like me strive for... There are very few things I can promise in this life, but keeping the quality/quirkiness of this channel's content is one of them! ;)

Just bought this for only $84.99 as part of Glorious’ Black Friday doorbuster deal, super stoked! I feel the GMMK Pro is *well* worth it at this insane price!

You sir, got the deal of the century today! One could dispute the GMMK Pro's value at it's launch price of $170... One CANNOT dispute the value of the GMMK Pro at just $85! Congrats on catching this incredible deal!!!

When you said you did things differently on this channel, I was skeptical but holy the amount of effort put in this video is insane; this is an instant sub.

Hehe... Thank you so much for the nice words (and for the sub)!!! Glad to know you enjoyed! You can expect a lot more of these types of videos in this channel (working hard on the next one right now!).

This is the best video I have seen for reviewing this keyboard and showing some cool mods.
