This video is the first of its kind. It looks at the Modern Scandinavian Defence in Full. It examines all the possible variations of the Scandinavian Defence and Gambits. It looks at the Marshall, then the Böhnke Gambit , the Schiller defence, and finally the very risky Kiel variation. The only variation this video is not looking at is the Gipslis variation but for those who might want to know a bit more about it, for sure the next lesson on the Scandinavian is on its way.

At 14:24 after white plays Nd2, why not play Qxd4? Would put whit in a whole lot of trouble.

I am trying to find the 1901 game you mention. I cant find anything under the names Rhodes, Rodes, Rohdes etc.

I’ve been studying the modern scandi for quite some time. The white moves are 3.d4 3.Nf3 3.c4 . 3.Nc3 is ridiculous, overly played in low rating, equality gained since move three. 3. Bb5+ is somewhat challenging but it is not the best set up for white, still interesting. 3.Nf3 is the real deal imho. 3.d4 equally good, but leaves more initiative to black who can opt for the portuguese gambit (as white you have to know the lines, which are very counterintuitive). 3.c4 is the so called ‘refutation’ and it has been the critical line for ages. Basically black is forced to go for the blackburne gambit or for the islandic gambit, very tricky lines for white to handle nowadays.

10:30 correct line is not 8...a6. Its 8...e6.

Yup ... And looking at the video more closely, it turns out there are many more blunders in there. It seemed like a thorough analysis at first.

a6 at 10:38 seems to do nothing to capture the Queen at b5. Can't it simply take the Knight at c5 and go about its affairs!?

You're right. Taking on C5 is not a blunder. It's a free Knight. Seems like the obvious move to me. If taking the Knight on C5 is a blunder, I need to brush up on my tactics. Lol.

Why are you calling 1...exd5 a "gambit"? Black can recapture the pawn on the next move. This is the Scandinavian defense, not the Scandinavian "gambit". 🤦🏻‍♂️
