Drednaw's origins bring us to the the American South and the explorative, colonial era of the British Empire! Here's how!
...
And yes I know Dreadnaw is spelled wrong in the thumbnail, its because you should DREAD it's bite! ... and also spelled this way it fills in the empty space nicely.

I think Drednaw's pretty cool. Also, I think Drednaw takes some light inspiration from Gamera, a giant turtle kaiju that's known for its gymnastics (no, seriously). Gamera was once quadrupedal but became bipedal in later iterations, Drednaw is quadrupedal but becomes bipedal when it Gigantamaxes. Gamera has rows of sharp teeth, Drednaw has rows of sharp teeth. Gamera's best known rival is Gyaos (a pterosaur-like kaiju), G-Max Drednaw and G-Max Corviknight are version exclusives. It can't be a coincidence.
@Aka-Spade
@Aka-Spade 3 жыл бұрын
Donaldo Rios I agree with you, I really think that a lot of gigantimax forms were inspired by Kaiju. (Butterfree in particular looks a lot like Mothra) on top of that, there was a huge Ultraman reference in one of the Pokémon Sun and Moon anime episodes . I mostly think that the people who make Pokémon just love Kaiju movies.

After this I think they might have missed a cool design path for Drednaw's line. Chewtle as a water/grass type(early wooden naval ships), Drednaw as water/rock (the rougher ironclads), and then a third water/steel stage for the current steel warships.

@@FriskyD. deforestation is probably the biggest reason they went extinct, cant run away from that when you live on an island. Plus the fact that humans overhunted them, is something they couldnt stop even if they started to become fearful of humans after a while. also its unlikely they formed communities like crows do, so they could not spread the "word" that humans are evil, and they definitely did not have time to evolve significant changes in behavior. so yea, not stupid, (most likely as smart as a pigeon, who they are relatives of) They where just unlucky to be traped on an island with humans.

11:38 fun fact, there is at least one tank that was designed to be able to drive through deep water. As in, just drive at the bottom of the body of water. It even had a long-ass breathing tube that doubled as an escape route, so the crew didn't suffocate. At the bottom of a lake, inside an airtight tank.

As a Gideon myself, I took the time to double check what you had said about Welles. Turns out that Welles was actually Abraham Lincoln's secretary of the navy and played a key role in the North's victory over the confederacy. I'm not sure if it's worth amending this video for it but just thought it was a cool fact that you missed.

Galarian Corsola is probably the worst, but I think that if we get an Ice/Poison-Type white nose syndrome fungus Pokémon, that’ll be EVEN worse. It’s a fungus that we accidentally spread to the Americas from Europe, and it’s killed tons of bats because they haven’t evolved to combat it like their European cousins did. I think you're spot on, great research, as usual. Something I think, that no one else seems to be picking up on, is how much Gamera may have also played a part in Drednaw's Gigantamax design. As you pointed out in the Staryu video, Kaiju and Tokusatsu have been heavy inspirations on Pokemon. So I think limiting the the amount of warship type additions and keeping his Gigantamax form to more of a bipedal turtle shape has some ties to Gamera. What do you think?

Like Cufant, I saw this -mon and loved its coloring before the design registered. And while I could have known about the ironclads somewhere in my head, I don't remember, so I did learn something new today. Thanks!

I feel that with everything lockstin said about drednaw, I have a feeling that the chewtle line are NOT actually from galar but might have been brought over due to an exotic pet trade and adapted to be "Galarian" forms that we see. Along with that, they might either be from unova or from regions based on the deep southern U.S.A or even from Texas if the U.S.S Texas is part of the inspiration and the original forms of these pokemon might either be (ground/water) due to snapping turtles being found on and hunting near the muddy swamp floors, (water/steel) due to being based on IRONCLADS or (ground/dragon) due to snapping turtles have a draconic terrapin like appearance to them🚢🐢⭐

Wow! All the information about the Galapagos Islands was so accurate. Went there last year and yep, they'll explain that food thing. Also because the animals had no human interaction, and even now, they're so tame and friendly. Awesome video and greetings from Quito - Ecuador.

I didn't finish the game yet, but in my Pokemon Sword, I have a Drednaw on my main team nicknamed Turtle. He's a good Pokemon to me because of his Modest nature and able to take hits as his characteristic. And I caught him just to fill my pokedex but kept him but when I checked his summary, I decided he's going to be my water type for my team.

Being someone who lives in Minnesota, where it’s legal to eat snapping turtles, I’ve had snapping turtle before and it is really good! It is full of flavor and very juicy! It tastes a lot like Chicken, Venison(deer meat), and Salmon! Its super good and if you get the chance try it! Oh also we don’t hunt them, we get them while they are crossing the road. Even then, we don’t take them while it is breeding season or if the turtle is super small(the shell must be bigger then a basketball and it must be heavier then 15 pounds).
