Goan Masala Kheema
Here are the ingredients and steps to make this recipe!
• 2 lbs regular ground Beef
• 1.5 tbsps each of Ginger and Garlic paste
• Juice of 2 Limes
• 10 Kashmiri Chillies
• 2 inch stick of cinnamon
• 4 cardamons
• 2 tsps Cumin
• 2 tsps white poppy seeds or khus khus
• 1 tsp cloves (30)
• 1.5 tsps of Black Peppercorns (60)
• 1 tsp Turmeric
• 1 cup of roughly chopped Garlic (12 cloves)
• ½ cup of roughly chopped Ginger (2 inch piece)
1 stock cube
• 1 cup of Goa Vinegar
• 2 horizontally slit green chillies
1 cup cubed Potatoes
2 cups diced Onions
• Marinate the ground beef with salt, the juice of a lime and the ginger & garlic paste
• Add the chillies, Cinnamon, cardamom, Cumin, Poppy seeds, cloves, black peppercorns, turmeric and process, followed by the Garlic, Ginger and half the vinegar
• Boil the ground beef with one cup of water and cook till 75% done
• If there’s any meat scum that floats to the top, just remove it - after it’s about 75% cooked just remove it from the heat
• Add Salt to taste
• Add some oil to another pan and just fry the cubed potatoes till half done, remove and drain on kitchen towel
• Add the diced Onions and saute this till it gets nice and
• Add the masala back into the pan
• Add 1 cup of fresh diced tomatoes, give it a few moments to heat up and then mix everything together
• Cook the masala base for 10 - 15 mins till the tomatoes have had a chance to soften and blend in with the masala
• Add the boiled ground beef and the water back into the saute pan.
• Mix this in and allow that masala mixture to coat the ground beef.
• Add some water to my food processor and add this in as well.
• Cover and cook
• Add the stock cube and salt to taste
• Add the juice of a lime
• Add 1 cup of frozen peas,& the green chillies
• Add the half cooked potatoes in cover in and allow it to cook
• Garnish with Coriander

So very welcome! I got this recipe from Alves. It's quite a typical way to make a Goan style masala, a bit of work, but the results are delicious!

Hi Karen in January I received a big batch of homemade dry red kashmiri chili powder, some cumin n corriander pwd. I was wondering if you could pls tell me the conversion of whole dry chillies to power and the same for the whole dry corriander and cumin please. Thank you so much for replying. The red mince looks sooo good and delicious, it reminds me of what my Nana used to make for the family when we were kids. Love your cooking and look forward to more of your videos. 🤗

Heya - 1 - 2 Kashmiri Chillies is typically is 1 tsp. I'd guess 1 tsp Coriander would be 1/2 tsp in powder - same for Cumin.

Hi there! Try this recipe, it's far from bland. The key is to add enough salt. In some recipes(not this one) the meat is sauteed and the browning adds flavour too.

Going to cook this dish tonight, looks YUMMY. Unfortunately, here in Australia the Indian grocery stores sell Kashmiri chillies which give no colour but are hot as hell. So my dish will come out good but it will not have that beautiful red colour.

Well done! You pulled a rabbit out of the hat with this one, Karen. Sooooooo, speaking of rabbit... i have a plentiful supply of our cheeky bunny friends, and I want to make keema out of them. Further to out previous discussion, I've decided that skinning the rabbit first is best before starting to cook with it. However, I have a cunning plan regarding the keemarisation. I love meat on the bone 🍖 and I also love minced meat. Rabbit has small bones, so if I put a whole skinned rabbit into my mincer (turning the handle slowly to ensure the wee bones are crunched up finely), would that be ok to use in your delicious looking Goan Kheema recipe ? I am pleased to report that I have a fruitful and hopefully long lasting supply of rabbits. My cousins butchers aunts sisters nephew (I know.... it's complicated!) has started breeding them. Anyway, that's all for now. Hope you are well. I'll stop 'rabbitting' on now.
