What an amazing short, for those that says they dont get it, it is about the self destructive masochism that comes about from Isolation, Andre obviously can't make friends with anyone else because of his language barrier issues as observed from the cafeteria scene. Seeing his only friend leaving prompts a lot of negative psyche in him and the wolf with the hovering knife is a visual metaphor for self destruction. I havent seen an animated short with this much depth since "Ryan"

I like how Gobelins has animations about normal people working normal jobs with typical problems. Of course for the sake of entertainment they can be personified into something extraordinary, or something downright unbelievable happens, but it's always to relate to an experience of say a working class middle-aged man, a mother who's tired of her teenage son, the loneliness and fear of the normal world, the deterioration of the mind, happiness, anger, all the ordinarily extraordinary stuff we deal with every day.

8 years later and this is still my favorite Gobelins short. No gimmicks or crutches, just a really well-told story with excellent atmosphere that accomplishes so much in such a short runtime!

Very poetic! Especially the dagger symbolizing a democles sword. And when it dropped, it was like a tipping point where the man had lost his reasoning. To me, the wolf-dog represented a lot of things, loneliness, temptation, and envy. Maybe even a conscience. The ending is ironic: the man is the one leaving while he friend is staying behind.

Andrew Wardlaw I was merely pointing out the irony of the scenario: in the beginning, the man thought his friend would leave and abandon him while he stayed behind. It's because of his anger at the idea that switched the situation: his friend stays after all, but he is forced to leave without him.
@DruTubePremium

team10leader1 Yeah, I get that. I was responding to Keaze because I think the reason the man left is fairly straightforward.

I don't think the dog represent anything in particular, it is a catalyst, a symbol and you as a viewer project your own representation into it. I personally saw paranoia, and the doubt that his friend was lying to him. And the dagger as his friend inevitable betrayal.

Okay... So the dog appeared first - two times by itself. The knife came after that. Then, it stabbed itself into the man's head and said the lines... And that's what drove him crazy? (Or it signified him going crazy?) I still feel like I'm missing something... The dog represented his paranoia, but what was the dagger floating above his head? Why wasn't it there the first few times? Argh, this is driving me nuts!
