It's unnerving to see how "nice" Odin is when Atreus reaches Asgard, Freya was really spot on with how persuasive he could be
@dragonstormx
@dragonstormx Жыл бұрын
The unnerving part for me comes from when we see him act like a jovial old man, then when he talks about his motives he makes it clear how little he thinks of mortals and how arrogant he is with his entitlement to find the meaning behind his existence. Plus there was his remarks at Thor's expense. Unlike Odin's usual snark, him belittling Thor is downright cruel showing his sees his own son as a dumb brute.

@grandadmiralthrawn92
@grandadmiralthrawn92 Жыл бұрын
Funny thing is that in the first game, there was no name for Atreus, so the directors had Kratos use "BOY" as a placeholder until they came up with a name. It turned out that the "placeholder" lines were so good, they ended up using them in the final version.

tbh in the legends, Odin is described as kind of an asshole. Being a "trickster and loner archetype" of god is basically a soft way of saying "I'll do whatever the frick I please, I'm too powerful to suffer any of the consequences"
@rakshithanand8262
@rakshithanand8262 Жыл бұрын
@@DonPatrono Well, as far as the 'real-life' Odin goes, he's a trickster, yes, but not a loner. 'All-Father' is a title he earned by sharing his wisdom after all, and the Aesir do acclaim him their leader on merit. Besides, he is neither unaware nor unaffected by the consequences of his actions. A big part of his wanderings is to proactively solve future problems... and Ragnarök is the inevitable result of a lifetime of mistakes. The biggest difference between Odin here and in myth is that myth Odin does not run from Ragnarök. Delay it, yes, plan for it, yes, but when Fenris comes... he meets it with spear in hand and his loyal followers at his back.

Love how all the characters “know” Kratos, and yet have no idea about how he was used over and over by the gods of his era and denied his revenge by his “allies.” Everyone else’s character story is pretty much child’s play compared to Kratos’s story.

At the beginning it's either Freya was stunned at what happened or she was contemplating within herself that she was just about to square up and potentially kill a child's life
@wolfehologram3539
@wolfehologram3539 Жыл бұрын
Well, just think about why she was attacking Kratos in the first place: he killed her son. It didn't matter to Freya that she was about to let Kratos murder her, only that her son was dead by Kratos' hand. And yet ... Atreus was Kratos' son and she was about to kill him in self defense -- which forced her to realize that's exactly what Kratos did to her own son: kill him in defense of her -- and even after all she had done and the many times she came after him, Kratos was STILL choosing not to attack her, merely defend himself. And then, as Kratos is fighting to help Atreus regain control, Kratos even calls out, "She was our friend!" to try and talk sense to his son. I'm not sure there was anything that ***could*** have hit her harder than that.

@@wolfehologram3539 i thinks she’s angry, seeing kratos and atreus’ relationship, and realising she can never have that anymore. she turns around after seeing kratos comforting atreus, but yeah also realising she could be doing the same to kratos (what you said) Freya’s performance was amazing in this, props to her actress 🎉

It's an interesting contrast to see and hear about the atrocities Odin has committed, see him act like a jovial old man when Atreus meets him, but when explaining his motives Odin makes it clear how self entitled he is. Plus his words to Thor make it clear how he sees his son as nothing more than a blunt instrument.

Ok someone hit me with a reality check. According to Nordic legend, wasn’t Nídhögg supposed to be a dragon? Because it doesn’t look like one
@SomeWeirdNinjaToon
@SomeWeirdNinjaToon Жыл бұрын
Dragons are very different depending on which culture or point in time you look at them. The Smaug aesthetic, if we can call it that, is actually pretty recent. Back in the old medieval times, for exemple in western Europe, dragons had depicted more mammal like, with dog noses and ears, and a serpentine body with legs. The Tarrasque is a french dragon with the body of a turtle but the head of a lion. In China, the Lung is closer to the deer in some aspects, with woods and an agile body. For the Nords, it's hard to tell really how they imagined them. In traditionnal representations, dragons are more serpentine than todays Tolkien dragon. Heck Fafnir, the most popular of them, is a dwarf cursed by his own greed. So yeah, while Nídhögg doesn't look like your everyday depiction of a dragon, she is actually closer to the small bits of info we have on her. Besides, she is often called the "Serpent of Yggdrasíl" so I guess it makes sense. Nordic mythology is still greatly unknown and is often seen with modern standards and depictions that can't really be applied to these beliefs and stories, but hey, everybody is free to imagine whatever they want
