Raising Kratos documents the five year, herculean effort to reinvent one of the greatest stories in gaming, God of War. Facing an unknown future, Santa Monica Studio took a massive risk, fundamentally changing their beloved franchise and re-establishing their rightful place in video game history.
More than just a “making of,” this cinematic journey of second chances rooted in family, sacrifice, struggle and doubt follows game director Cory Barlog and those who chase perfection in art and storytelling. Witness the incredible defeats, the unpredictable outcomes and the down-to-the-wire tension on full display in this true life redemption story.

For as long as i can remember, my mum always said "you finished on that game yet?" "Turn it off, come downstairs" "Please pause that game." But then she popped her head in as Kratos was burning Faye. From then on she watched it like a film as I played it, occasionally asking questions, every now and then a "WOAAAH!" This was the first game she said "I really enjoyed watching you play that." She didn't live to see me play Ragnarök. But I really hope she'd enjoy it as much as she did the first one.

This is the only game I've ever played where I sat through the ending credits, reading every name, not trying to skip them. In the era of buggy releases and half-baked garbage live-service games, God of War truly shines as a reminder and beacon that video games can still be made with passion, they can be big, they can be of good quality AND have a ton of content, and they can still tell great stories. I'm looking forward to Ragnarok, but I want Santa Monica to take their time, do it right, and keep their sanity.

This God of War was the proof that a well crafted game, with the right time to develop and A GOOD STORY backed up by a good gameplay can sell super well even if it isn't an open world multiplayer online with craptons of microtransaction created in clutch timing 1 year after the other (as someone in the industry said). It's the testament that people still want a single player experience, if it's well crafted. Always be one pf my favorite game. This thinking should be applied also to other media like cinema. @@hamidmehrdad5805 I don't respect the industry practice of crunch that has slipped under the radar for so many years. It is a cost in time, in mental well being, in abusive labour practices for everyone involved. The senior team here are all charming people, but there are plenty of hints here about just how hard they had to push their team to realise this vision.

actually the spartan soldiers were taught the laconic speech, which was a rough but short way to talk. It was very effective/useful in war, so it makes sense for kratos to be very minimal in his choice of words.

I'm watching this as the newest game comes out, and I truly hope they do another documentary on the new one and the processes and things like that. This was so masterfully made and shot and edited and it was an experience to say the least. I'm new to the God of War games, but the story of Kratos becoming the father he never had and caring for his son like he needed to be is something that resonates with me deeply and gives me chills. Seeing the crowd react the way they did, hearing the journey the studio went on to create this game and the actors investing their whole into this, is revolutionary. I may have come late to the party, but I swear I'll be here for the rest of it. The story is immaculate, the game is absolutely beautiful, and I CANNOT wait to see the rest of the newest story with Kratos and Atreus

Sony and Santa Monica Studios always do a fantastic job on their documentaries on God Of War. I remember when playing the old God Of War games, they always show behind the scene footage of how the game is created. As someone who was always fascinated to how a game is developed, that was one of the many reason why I like God of War. Furthermore, I love the God of War series and love the direction that Santa Monica Studios have taken to get God of War onto another level. Getting an insight as to how Santa Monica Studios produce the game is incredible to watch and I am grateful that they have been able to share that with us. It makes them stand out so much compared to some of the game developers out there today and Santa Monica Studios absolutely deserve to get the recognition they are getting for this game.

Thanks again for this outstanding experience that you delivered.

After finishing the game on PC today, 17 February 2022, and watching the doc, I truly have great respect for the work and sacrifice the team at SMS made. God of War is a masterpiece like no other, and without a doubt THE best game I have ever played.

I almost bawled during that. The effort of reeling in the emotions was on her face, clear as day. I felt so bad that I wanted to just reach through the screen and comfort her. :(

Yep, i didnt found her very sympathetic all over the documentary but at that moment i felt so much compassion for her that it all swapped around. Shes a part of them and made GoW possible, so im deeply thankful for her, but i hope everything turned out well in her private life. I dont want to miss games like GoW, but if thats the price, phew.. i dont know.

Gotta say, that kid did a great job with his lines and performance. A lot of kid characters are done by adults who really can't get the voice lines right at all. (I love Bayonetta like anything but oof, that child voice was off. Probably in part due to character age, but even other kid characters a good bit older are often not well selected vocally.)

The amount of talent in this game is phenomenal. Cory, Chris, Sharon, Sunny and Dani as casting and director choice is just phenomenal. This game will cement itself in time as a benchmark of such an art. Video games have an image of a things for kids, but God of War has proven itself as a different medium in story telling. Between this and The Witcher 3, I haven't found anything that can bring me to such enjoyment. Thank you to the team behind this masterpiece. You've outdone yourself.
