One of those occasions where you could more than once sense the irritable nature of the man. Nevertheless John Wilson will be missed for his infectious enthusiasm for fishing. Through these videos he has been, and will continue to be, a true inspiration to so many anglers, young and old. R.I.P

He was a grumpy old bugger & I don't think I'd have enjoyed fishing alongside him-but an iconic character who could catch anything

I was lucky enough to be on that trip - it wasn't as big as they said. Having said that, we caught a couple of bigger fish next day - they were weighed at 45 & 55lb. Did another trip with him a couple of years later and we caught a really big one - bottomed out the 60lb scales and was most likely closer to 80lb. BIG fish!

Nice I caught a nice tench 2 lbs 4 oz but I caught it on 0lbs 8oz line with size 22 hook

Wilson was famous for telling fibs about the line ... He once beasted a 9lb barbel from tree roots on 4lb line 🙈
