In today's episode I vlog my journey to a new home, after a few years in Philadelphia. This move has inspired some nostalgic reflection on my collecting journey with Omega watches, from the Speedmaster to the Seamaster, as I try to figure out if they have a place in my final watch collection, or not. What do you think about the watches in this video? And what are your feelings on Omega? Please share in the comments.

I bought a Speedie in1989, before they were cool. It was for decades my only watch. Three years ago, I gave it to my son, who was the same age as me when I bought it. It was my only Omega, and I don't need another one. Every time I see him wear it, his life ahead of him, it's all I could ask for.

This comment kind of broke my heart. My dad owns a Speedmaster 125 from the seventies I always loved this watch. As I boy I took it off his wrist, actuating the pusher and so on. The design of the dial is hardwired into my brain. 15 years ago I found a seconhand 125 movement mated into a ref 176.010 style cushion case. I got the watch, I was a happy camper. Finally the case broke at the lugs, I had it sent to Biel/Bienne (I am Swiss, living abroad). They offered me a replacement case, old stock I guess, for the 125. You gotta look it, up. This case, let's say, is pretty massive. Anyways, my dad never really gave me any feedback, or appreciation that I care about his watch. For me that breaks my heart, especially reading from a Dad that cares. I just want to thank You for posting this comment, it somehow comforts me. And I can assure you, my children will get appreciated from me a lot, for whatever they are passionated about. And if my boy or girl ever ask for one of my watches I do know how I will feel about it.

I hope your son values his watch as much as I value my Fathers 1955 Titoni Airmaster. It might not be rated by anyone else but it is my most valued watch, indeed my most valued possession.

The only watch channel that can wrap Marcus Aurelius, Italian futurism sculpture, the subversive genius of Trading Places, the slimy brilliance of John Carpenter’s The Thing, and the hugely playable Goldeneye game into a contemplation of our enduring love of Omega and the clinical pathology of nostalgia-a microcosm of why The Urban Gentry will always occupy the top tier of awesomeness in the electronic ether for me. And yes, absolutely, you need an Omega in the collection.

So glad to see you back in NYC. I can tell you feel more at home in just a few days back there than you ever did in Philly. Happy you are back where you feel best. I love the history and story of Omega. I got stupendously close to buying the GoldenEye Seamaster. But I didn’t and I am glad. Omega I love from a distance and for others. I am happy to enjoy it through others collections. There is nothing that Omega offers me in their current catalog that I don’t already have answered in my collection. I sense you have the same sense of peace. I have a sense that any Speedy or Seamaster would end up finding its way OUT of your collection again. But you do what makes you happy your collection seep right for you. New York came back into your life. No reason Omega can’t too. Great to see you well and happy. Onward and upward, my friend. Be well!

I worked for many years for Black, Starr & Frost Jewellers along with Bailey, Banks and Biddle Jewellers and so I am very familiar with fine Swiss timepieces. For some reason, I just never got on with the brand as I did so many other fine Swiss watch brands. But that’s the beauty of the world and I am happy for you that you like the Speedy so well. The best of luck to you and please keep up these awesome videos! Sean

I also inherited my father’s 1978 Constellation 300hz chronometer 14 years ago and have 1968 Automatic 565 movement in 9ct gold inspired by your vintage Seamaster! @@karlsenula9495you don’t need “iconic pieces” to have a “high end” collection. That merely seems like you’re just ticking the boxes for the sake of it. I’d rather see a personal, unique collection as opposed to a collection of so called iconic watches that we see in collection after collection.

In my view there’s a certain duality to it; you can be a fan of a brand or thing from afar, but you also can only be remembered by what you do. It’s ok to feel both sides of this, the need to own something and being happy with appreciating without owning. For me, I would over time see which of the two I feel more often, and go down that road. Best of luck to you, personally Omega is my favorite luxury brand so I’ll always own one. But there are other brands I certainly enjoy but am happy to not own and save my money for the future instead. Cheers!

Your collecting philosophy over the past year or so has aligned with my values so much, its crazy. I started off buying all random shitters that tickled any minor fancy in my brain for years, constantly buying and selling off as i realized i didnt actually like the watch that much. I've pared down my collection to 3 watches I actually wear; my Tudor BB41 that gets 90% of my wrist time, my beater Seiko King Turtle that does everything i wouldnt do in the Tudor (which really only means river trips), and my wedding watch, an Oris Artelier on a custom purple ostrich leather strap, along with a handful of random Casios, and then a handful of watches I am working on selling off that dont get worn any more. I have only one watch that I'm still on the fence about, a Sinn U1 that I havent been able to part with even though I dont wear it nearly as much as it deserves to be worn. I want to wear it more but ive become so attached to this tudor that it just sits in my box now, which is a damn shame. But the tudor is just...so perfect i always find myself going for that over everything else

One of the best feelings in watch collecting for me is when I no longer felt the need to own all the watches and was happy with just looking at them and not owning. Also I wear all my watches and have cut it down to 4-5 all the right size for me I realised that looking and trying on occasionally was enough. Man I’m so happy now 😛

I completely agree that first accidental scratch it really is liberating. I definitely can be the same way with buying watches that don't get worn. I bought the new Aquastar Benthos H1 not long after it came out but didn't wear it much at first. So recently I decided to take it with me while completing my Open Water Scuba certification. And of course I end up putting a big nick in the case while gearing up to get in the water. The Benthos H1 did amazing underwater! Since then I've worn it every day! Plus now I have a great memory associated with it and the mark on the side!

Nice video, I'm glad that you moved to NY, I like it better than Philly. I juat watched one of your videos about the Sinn 104, I think you did that about 8 years ago, and I have to say, I love your passion for culture, history, nostalgia and watches of course. It has been nice to see your evolution as a collector and as a man, I like what I see because I see much of me in you, and I don't look that much like a dork. That is a compliment, by the way. I really hope this is not the end for this channel, maybe I heard that in the wrong way, but I do wish you the best of success in anything you do, I also got here about 35 years ago with a suit case, and an Alfa Swiss quartz watch I got in Guadalajara, Mexico, so I know how that feels. The lightning strike is a good sign of electrifying content coming, I hope. Thank you for another cool video. Keep the speedmaster.

Thank you. Yet another great and thoughtful film. Have you ever thought about the Omega 2254? Vintage vibe, elegance and classic looks - all up your alley.

I discovered your channel when I found your review of the full metal square I had just bought, but I never did subscribe until now. 👍🏼. Three years later I still have the watch.

I was born in Jersey City. Currently work in Manhattan. Lived in the NYC area all my life. I've lost count of how many times 'experts' have predicted the death of New York.

Memento Mori , The watches we own and treasure are just a measure of our own short life span, but what a pleasure. I don't get the reaction many people say why wear a watch, when your telephone can tell you the time. Thank you TGV, proper Gent.

Glad to see you back in the old stomping grounds also yes that would be cool filming on that balcony to bad it's so expensive to live in that area. The star wars bits was great and the hugo bit was great. What helps me get over dings and scratches on my watch is that I remind myself that one day it wont matter watches don't come with you to the after life. Good video as always.
