Every time I see a GameMill game, my attention is drawn to their company name. Says a lot.

This game feels like great What Happened fodder. Honestly, I'd love a deep dive into how they managed to pull off making SOMETHING in just a year, while being fucked over by GameMill.

Fun fact, the game is based off the Joe devito books, which are unrelated to the monsterverse and have the endorsement of the Merian c cooper estate

Like, this doesn't look even close to as bad as Gollum from earlier this year. It at least looks like an actual game you can actually play in comparison.

It's important to call out garbage for being garbage, but it's also important to get the context. Matt's been doing wonders for the latter, and it's cool we got that disclaimer at the start of the video. We're seeing more and more people getting crunched in the game industry and in Hollywood special effects, then those same people getting dunked on for being bad at their job when they've been expected to work miracles.

From what I can tell this isn't based on the Monsterverse but a series of young adult novels that seemed from a early 2000s Jr rewrite of the original novelization... Weirdly enough

For a game being made in only a year by a small team, this actually doesn't seem too bad. Definitely seems like they had the potential to make a good game, but they just didn't have the time or budget they needed. I've been there, and it sucks, but you just have to do what you can and move on. Hopefully these devs will move on to better opportunities.

Gollum: I'm releasing in 2023. Kong: Hold my axe. Also of note Matt, this is based on the books by Joe Devito which are sequels/prequels to the 1933 originals. They don't have anything to do with the Monsterverse, Devito is apparently really salty that his version of Kong isn't the mainstream one, and he seems to be doing anything he can to force it into the public conscience (including this game), which is why there is an attempt at a streaming series in development for it too. Like he has un-successfully tried to sue Legendary and stuff over the vaguest reasons. Like Kong is a public domain character, he needs to get over himself lol.

It kinda fits the rest of the game that the narrator sounds like she's talking about her childhood pony in Poland, not giant apes on a remote island in the Pacific.
