Gold Quarterlies: Performers vs. Disappointers

Today we did a tour around through the gold producers who reported quarterlies, including Bellevue (BGL), Genesis (GMD), Catalyst (CYL) and Tietto (TIE), then onto Spartan (SPR) who’re doing a big $80m raising.
AIC Mines’ (A1M) quarterly got a segment before we had a good chat about Gina Rinehart’s recent action in rare earth’s, and what that could mean for Lynas (LYC) and MP Materials, before rounding off on another Gina story, the Hanrine and Titan Minerals (TTM) farm-in agreement.

It is most likely the 48hr CIL Stage Recovery figures are being calculated from (head Grades) values not presented in the summary table. You can see in the table the third column is titled Calculated Head Grade . This isn't a assayed value, it is a derived value from the tests. The lab will have assayed the sample before it was tested. The metallurgists have back calculated the head grade. This is typically based on the gold that has gone into solution (Leach Test) and recovered by gravity and combined this with the amount of gold in the solid tail residue of the CIL test to derive the calc head grade values as shown in the third column. The question that should be asked is what was the actual head grade assay for each of these samples from which the calculated and assayed grades can be compared to see how close they are. Typically referred to as metal accountability... This also tells you how well the test was run.... Another possibility is the first column of CIL recoveries are based on total gold leached in a test whilst the 48h CIL Stage Recovery figures are a separate test run on the same sample (split) but they have added Carbon during the test and determined the recovery of Gold based on the amount of Gold adsorbed onto the carbon as would occur in the plant and not reported what has just leached into solution. It depends how the metallurgist set these tests up but certainly from a transparency perspective a little lacking on detail by SPR....

I’m definitely convinced gold stocks are overvalued. So much investment funding . Overcooked debt . Hard to see how the projects are economically viable . It’s no wonder the small caps just don’t attract funding
