Thank you for the video, I just discovered your channel and am trying to get caught up on all of your uploads. I was curious as to why you use Iron (II) sulfate to precipitate gold, as many other videos I've seen use sodium metabisulfite. Thanks again for taking the time to produce such informative, concise videos.

Hi, there are many reagents that can reduce gold from solution. One of the advantages of using Fe(II) to Fe(III) reaction is that there is no bad smell like with sodium metabisulfite.

Question. why wouldn't you remove the base metals with nitric before going to AR?

Hi, in general I should inquartate gold to below 8 karats and then use nitric acid. That’s best method for gold scrap. I agree with you. In this video I tried aqua Regia directly as I was not sure if I have silver in the alloys. Unfortunately silver was present and it blocked complete dissolving.

You should have started with nitric to leech the other metals then used AR the brownish mud in the filter and beaker is gold use more AR on the filter and dissolve the rest of the metal

Bought this on eBay, so didn’t expect gold at all. Usually I lower the carat with copper and follow the path you suggest!

Hi, 9 carat gold it was. 0.4g is expected but part of the gold has high silver content and cannot dissolve in aqua regia.
