In this video I check out the Golden Edge edger blade. I install it on my Stihl kombi system edger, and give it a try cutting a first edge. The golden edge is a edger blade that claims to last as long as 50 standard edger blades.

I actually had one and used it for several years until it recently broke. I loved mine and the thick edge. I never had any issues with debris damaging anything.

Good for establishing a new edge in early spring/new lawns and then put it back on the shelf. I’ve used them for a couple of years now. They have there place IMO.

Yeah this is a rely good video, the kick back debris is a huge factor to consider. I'l stick with my stick edger to break and soften the soil then follow up with my string trimmer for a deeper wider edge.
@LawnCareBusinessSuccess

I guess it depends on the situation. I have heard from people that like it and say it only kicks back on new edges, but even so for me that’s enough not to use it. I do the same as you. I use a regular blade edger to start a new edge then maintain with my string each week. Thanks for watching.

😂 I does leave a nice edge, and I have heard from many people who like it. Also people say that it only does that the first time you make a new edge. For me though servicing small dense residential city lots with lots of windows, cars and people around there is just too much potential liability so it’s a no go.

Lots of people like to use this. It will only fly so many rocks the first time, because your are taking away material that was never taken away before. A lot like the first time a property is edged with a regular edger. Regular edger blades don’t last very long for me so I think this might be worth it.

+gljo20 I think that's a pretty fair assessment. The edge looks great but the cleanup and possible liability from hitting cars, windows or people has to be considered for each situation you would be using it.

I have one, just put the motor closer to the ground. If you're wearing pants, let the dirt fling on you. I probably wouldn't use it every day, only one overgrown or lawns/beds that need to be reshaped.

How about starting a few feet out front of the structure and edge inwards? That will throw any mess away from the structure. Then you can reverse course 180 degrees and finish up... or you could but up a large cardboard box (flattened) and use that as a shield. ??Good video too.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately the golden edge is just not for me in the dense type neighbourhoods I work in with cars and houses all in close proximity. It’s just easier to use a standard edger blade and not have to think or worry about the debris flying. Plus I prefer the thinner edge of a standard blade vs the large wide edge that the golden edge leaves.

You can check it out on Amazon amzn.to/2hM2ZPH With that being said I believe I used the iPhone for this video. If you check out the video I did where I used the echo equipment for the first time I know I used the action camera on that video for sure. check out that video here kzfaq.info/get/bejne/i7eanNCkma6bhHk.html

Also tell them that for when they are pulling stuff to have a foot back & see what they may fall into & clear it as well as have your boxer foot ready to support. As well as when they are pushing stuff in the case of pinch point & such.

The product makes a nice cut but some? many? of grounds maintenance companies simply would not wash up the house. And then they'd get an angry phone call. The blade needs a purpose-built SHIELD or FENDER to go with it to solve that problem. I'm sticking with the thin blade when I buy a new edger - I've given up on my electric Black and Decker, it takes way too long and the results are not that good, so I'm checking out videos to see what the pros use. I'm a homeowner and there's no way I'm willing to bust out the hose and water down - my house - a neighbor's car who parked on the street at my place What if those thick teeth spin a rock backward into a kid's eye? Or my dog? Or my neighbor's car? etc. Need a shield, fender, or purpose-built complete tool that comes with the blade and the fender. . . .
