I was preparing for my On The Road 2019 trip, and the Goldfields run was a shakedown. And shakedown it was. We filmed Ora Banda just weeks before a fire gutted the place ... it seems we cursed another pub.
We have a record of places destroyed by fire other means within months of our visits.

It is a shame when something like that burns to the ground. Its not just the lose of the building. But every thing that was inside it. It looked like a nice place to hang out in and take a break. Stay safe.

I agree. It's happened too many times just in my experience. Got a video coming up in the future about such occurrences. The shell is still there apparently. The pub has an infamous and chequered past. The owners were still waiting on council approval to rebuild back in 2022. I don't know what the current state of play is.

Hi Laurie, hope you are well. Enjoying your Golden Discovery Quest. Just wondering when did you do this? We did part of it last year but only just the sealed sections. Will do the whole trail next time. Cheers Des

Hi Des, March 2019. I had intended to do the complete trail, but figured the roads would be too tough for the Fridge in the van ... and then I did the Burketown-Borroloola Rd later in the year and killed it anyway ... LOL. I had done most of the trail in 2009, so wasn't too fussed.
