Freeling is a lovely little town. it is starting to grow more now though as developers buy up land and build more homes there, similar to that has happened to neighbouring Roseworthy, which is about 15 K's from there.

Thank you. Yes, I guess it's got to happen. Unfortunately, the current trend is to divide the land up and build on postage stamp sized blocks. I'm old enough to remember a 1/4 acre block, lawn in the front and back yard, and a chook pen and garage down the back into the back lane. That same block now has three units on it. Cheers, Laurie.

I had to see this video when I saw the intro page with map. My parents and I circumnavigated Australia in 1969-70 in a truck camper that we brought with us from the states. Needless to say conditions were different then and there were long stretches of unpaved roads in some areas (Nullarbor and the northwest in particular). Our truck camper (a slide-in on a 'ute') got a lot of stares; there didn't seem to be any others like it in Oz at the time. As I recall, the many council camps were quite inexpensive back then. We didn't have any major problems with the vehicle (1966 Chevy pickup, 305-V6 with manual 4-speed) but went through a number of tires. Red road dust infiltrated the camper's rear door; my dad closed the door on a tarp to seal it better. We followed a generally coastal route including all the mainland capital cities plus Broome, Darwin, Alice, Cairns, Gold Coast. The most bleak stretch I remember was east of Tennant Creek. How times have changed! Now travelers expect to have cell and internet and more facilities everywhere! Oops, apologies if I hijacked your topic. Good practical travelers' advice in your video.

No, you didn't hijack anything. I love these stories. The roads and communication have changed, as has the world we live in. We are now able to visit some of our most isolated parts of the country relatively easily, and whilst that is good, it also means that the probability of destroying their uniqueness is greater. The Gibb River Road is an example - it was a track for trucks to transport cattle out of the Kimberley, and it was a harsh environment. These days, virtually anybody can go there, and you are battling to find a camp spot, which these days is in organised camp grounds... the magic has gone. And I guess that is why many of us try and find outback roads and the like to try and experience some of that old adventure. Thank you for saying hello, cheers Laurie.

Greetings from Albany Oregon. I visited Albany WA in 2009 and enjoyed this video to recollect the interesting sights I saw there. A tidy town with interesting history and architecture. From a lofty viewpoint there was visible the vast bay, a large old historic woolen mill, and piles of mineral sands and wood chips for export. I enjoyed various viewpoints, beaches and trails in the surrounding area.

This video is a pleasant tour, it brought back memories of my visit to Albany in 2009. Great views, beaches, trails and history etc. I patronized the Dog Rock Laundro-Bar; I didn't know then that the Dog Rock name came from a rock that looks like a dog. Camped at Cozy Corner Beach and hiked part of the Bibbulmun Track. Stayed at the hotel overlooking the bay and former railway station; the hotel lounge got rowdy on Saturday night with three police cars on the street outside my window. Memorable fun! Coincidentally I'm currently in Albany Oregon.

Thanks for the tour. Nice work with the drone views! I went through Cook on the train (at night?) in 1969, Port Pirie to Perth, changed trains at Kalgoorlie. Drove cross country 40 years later in 2009. At 5:50, school's rules for fools? "Toilets are only to be used for their designed purpose." We had stopped off at Cook in 2007 on the train, and because of what we were doing (filming our 2015 Trans Australian Railway trip, I needed to go up there to get the footage. The drone sadly, chucked a mental not long after we got back, ran rogue, and crashed and destroyed itself, ironically in an Albany salvage yard. I haven't bothered since, it's an expensive way to destroy a camera. 😁. Cheers, Laurie

Did some aerial survey work based out of Tibooburra a bit over 50 years ago. We stayed in the pub, memories for a lifetime. Counter lunch was a Sunbeam frypan on the end of the 3 place bar, with days old meat pies in it. Juke box was a Philips record player. You picked your own lp from the C & W record pile. The wall was a (I believe) a painting by Russell Drysdale. The doctor (again, I believe) lived across the road. He had his light aircraft in a hanger in his yard, and taxied out to the airstrip to take off. It was a number of k's out of town, all dirt road. Tarmac started at the pub, and stopped at the next pub, 100 metres up the road. And the town would have been about one twentieth of its current size. Fondest memories.

I love these stories. There are 2 pubs there, and one was being renovated. I am hopeless, in that being a non drinker, I don't think to go into many pubs, and as a result, I miss out on seeing all the history that is kept within. I don't feel comfortable in a pub on my own, which is ridiculous, because as a Muso, I played pubs every Friday-Saturday night for years. But then it was bump in, play, bump out. Bondy developed Sun City in the early 70's with the help of the Japs- Tokyu Corp. He bought up the 2000 acres or so around that area. It was a sheep farm. Bear in mind that Big Al was a sitting council member of the Perth City Council from 1971-74.Hmmmmm..... He opened the place up for sales and development in 1974, hoping to open up a mega satellite city of 200,000 people. For years it was a dead albatross. It's still pretty much a shithole if you ask me. I first stopped at Wirrulla in about 1984 or 85, travelling in a W series, Kenworth, with no sleeper cab on our way to Newcastle. We pulled up just down the road from the pub where there was a big parking spot and toilet named the thunder dome. I remember an enclosed building, similar to a school undercroft for shelter as well. That became a regular spot in the 90s if I was passing through with an oversize load.
