"What is a pallet?" I can hear Patrice O'Neil yell, "Damnit Michael!" Later, I think Kevin is adorable, I hate everyone's advise, just be yourself Mr. Malone. Finally, I love that Michael shifting blame totally backfires.

Great analysis, as usual. Just to add to what you said I think this episode is a major turning point for Dwight, this is like the straw that broke the camel's back. This is the last time he 'falls on his sword' for Michael. What pushed him over the edge, I believe, is that it turned out ok and he was finally going to be rewarded for his loyal behavior, but then Michael just couldn't let him have it. I think that's what pushed him to side with Charles later on and that's also why he was so vicious while trying to take Michael's company down. All those times he let Michael walk all over him and he did nothing. And the scary thing is that if it hadn't been for Jim, Dwight would have totally destroyed them and probably inherited the branch once they went bankrupt and Charles had to find a permanent replacement for Michael. He came so close! He just had to brag about solving the mystery of the Beet Bandit hahahaha. I love this show :)

I grew up with the Willy Wonka movie, seeing it at the movie theater in 1972. Also saw it at our library pre-pandemic. Never saw the remake. I enjoyed it as a kid, but as an adult, I take a more satirical approach to the movie (plus, the early part with the ticket comes off as the film itself being satirical, which I liked). There are a couple pop culture digs at it I loved. One was on Futurama where the movie's parodied. Stand-ins for the Oompa Loompas did their thing, then the Professor saying, "Tell them I hate them!" Really, the Oompa Loompas songs are so holier-than-thou, I agree. And SNL once did a DVD commentary (parody) for the film, portraying the disturbing, psychedelic boat ride, followed by a commentator saying, "This is a KID's movie?!" I did enjoy the movie the more recent viewing, but, wow, is some of that is messed up.

It's about the Gene Wilder "Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory," I believe. This would be a movie from michael's childhood or adolescence, being that it came out in the 70s and michael is 43-44-45 during season 5. Gene Wilder seems to be pretty influential to Michael and that michael tries to adopt a whimsical style of performance like the very fondly remembered Gene Wilder interpretation of Willy Wonka. Also, doesn't he correct them and say *it's willy wonka and the chocolate factory*

I could not agree more on the 5/5 rating on the cold opening. Jim's face when he realizes what's happening is one of my favorite moments of this season! I don't know why but it just makes me laugh. I probably would give the episode a 3/5, but maybe a 3.5 just because it has Wallace and I love all the episodes he's in. Great field guide again, sir. I hope you and your wife and children have a happy and blessed Easter.

I actually hated Wallace in this episode. He thought the idea was horrible until the client increased their purchases. The outcome isn’t determinative here, Michael got super lucky, they could’ve just taken the discount and screwed Dunder Mifflin, it was still objectively a stupid idea and Wallace showed he was very fickle.

Just rewatched this episode 2 days ago,and that B story really got to me. Yes,Andy is definitely projecting and giving bad advice to Kevin. But I feel for him when he says during a talking head, [When you put your heart out there] “it’s liable to turn into some blackened carbon brick in a barbecue sauce of shame and rage” and when he cries while watching Kevin & Lynn making a connection(this scene is probably supposed to be funny maybe) ,I lament for him. 😕

between michael being inspired by the willy wonka movie and his harry potter comment as prison mike, i don't think michael reads books. speaking of, you really haven't been aware of the whimsical writing of rhold dahl (you guys may have to watch matilda and james and the giant peach. also read the magic finger) you don't remember dorris, the secretary oompa-lumpa also, curious what idris elba references you'll make in the next episode

I like the take on perception versus reality. The real perception versus reality here though is that Michael loves his employees. I have had some bad bosses but none of them would try to coerce me into taking the fall for them especially since Dwight is so loyal to him unjustifiably I might add. The purported Michael Scott character growth is not evident here at all just the narcissistic self indulgent Michael

Pretty sure the golden ticket idea is illegal as well. There are laws dictating sweepstakes, and they can't force you to buy a product to enter the sweepstake without having their business be a lottery or some kind of gambling thing. Idk the specifics though

Millennial-like mind speaking alert. The Johnny Depp creepy version is just weird. The first one has nothing scary about that. And the girl is "punished" for taking what didn't belong to her/disobedience, not because of chewing gum. I guess the decade word is "trauma", everything causes pain and trauma. Haha Love the videos.

Tim Burton needs to go back to making small, strange films centered on lovable weirdos. Once he gave in to Hollywood $$$ and the pressures to homogenize the weirdness into something more palatable for the masses, his films turned to crap.

...I don't think anywhere in the video or comments did people criticize Willy wonka for being 'unwoke'. I think they criticized it based on it being freaky and scary for many kids, which I think most people agree with. I don't remember almost anything about watching that movie as a kid but I do remember being freaked out by that boat scene.
