You pull the decompression lever FIRST so there is absolutely no partial compression possible as you engage the clutch to turn it over. Another small technique my uncle refined: once warmed up, advance pony to full speed to make sure it's ready then return to idle. With decompression full pulled engage clutch while NOW advancing pony throttle to full. You will save your starter gear and clutch by doing so. I used my knee/foot to keep decompression fully pulled. Sounds hard but it isn't. AND, do not advance throttle from cut off until you have released decompression lever or you will flood engine.

i love these type of tractors we had completely redone 730 and my dad traded it in on a 4020,i luv the 020 but loved the 730 more,i inherited a 1956 70 diesel standard and the pony motor was always good but then the friendly mice ate wires so had it rewired and well it set awhile and they got it again and havent never missed with that jsut row it down a hill and it fires right off,did check into electric start but was told cost a small fortune,also have a 49 R and luv it,been in family since i was little and learned to run one on it

Grew up with my dad's line of JD. Over time he had a two Bs, a G, a 50 and a 730. He also had a Ford 8N. That 730 sure could work.

It looks like there's a salvage yard... all the equipment is red!! That was great! Took me a while to find that stretch of road, I used to drive it once or twice a year on my way to Arkansas but haven't down that way for a while. Really enjoyed the video, like the old green twins!

Used to farm with a couple of 730,s twenty four volt starting systems four 16 plows ten foot discs no complaints but keep the battery terminals tight or you can get a fire under the seat.

I'd like to find a loader attachment for my 730 (wide front wheels). Any tips for how to find?

get yerself a camera/phone holder. i got myself one and it makes for easier filming. a magnetic mount or clamp mount work best. also get the cherry dynamite cleaner that works miles ahead of the gojo type stuff, you can shove your hands in a bucket of grease and a little ounce or less of that soap will clean it all off. great vids man

I got a camera holder and it works well except it’s really inconvenient to carry and I don’t use it anymore. The hot water washer gets most of the crud off but sometimes you have to peel it off with a screwdriver or a pick

All have to say is I grew up on a farm with a John Deere 520, 730 and 4010. Winner got the 4010. That tractor was light years more fun to drive than the two cylinders.

The transmission always was the weak link of John Deere until the synchro
@greggergen9104
@greggergen9104 3 жыл бұрын
@@goldingerfarms9357 Yeah the transmission, the hand clutch. With the 730 it was very difficult to shift on the go. With the 4010 you could shift on the go... And then it had 3 speeds in reverse, and you could reverse it without stopping. The 730 you had to come to a complete stop to reverse it. And the power steering on the 4010 was unbelievable and had no play in it at all. Great tractor!

Anoth beautiful 730, congrats!! I was originally looking for a pony motor start tractor but decided against it only because its now two engines to take care of instead on one! I got my 730 completely hot water pressure washed on Saturday and that fitting that goes into the right side of the block replaced on Sat AM, it was a relief to get that completed. Pulled the nose section of the hood off to clean inside there and the check the power steering oil and all looked good under there. I have a new tach, oil pressure gauge and water temp gauge coming in this week and a filter set also so that will again keep me way more than just busy! What are your plans with your 730s?

Karl K the electric start one is going to get some upgrades and will pull my new 6 row planter and I’m going to buy a disk and a field cultivator to pull with the second one so that I don’t have to unhook any implements. The second 730 will also be getting some things fixed and may be converted to 12 volt electric start but as long as the pony behaves it will stay for now
