I am an 85 year old Vietnam Combat vet with two tours and two purple hearts one for each tour. I have heard Jim Nabors sing this song on several occasions and enjoyed it every time. I enjoyed watching the Gomer Pyle TV shows also. Thanks again Jim Nabors for the wonderful shows you presented. Capt Kenneth W. Bartlett US Army RIP Sir I am about to follow you.

Tear evoking vocal range, talent and beauty. As a boy I dare not miss any episodes of GoMER Pyle and his zany relationship with his less than honest protagonist, Sgt. Vince Carter. Every episode left me waiting eagerly to see the next. Thanks for the indelible memories, Jim. RIP

I just saw this KZfaq video for the first time but I do remember this episode. (I’m 71 and a former Marine). It was an amazing paradox that Jim Nabors had with his voice. Starting with the Andy Griffith Show (yep.. with Ron Howard) and then on to the Gomer Pyle spin off.. the high pitched almost tenor voice was grating with his natural Alabama accent (OK … I’m from Macon Georgia so of course an Alabama accent is grating - LoL) and then when I heard him sing for the first time on a talk show ( I seem to recall it was the original Tonight Show…) I was blown away at this rich bass baritone voice that was nearly operatic. He was the real deal. Great memories - Thanks whoever posted this.

Margaret waters I know a lot of people in my generation (gen z) like to get on older ppl about how they messed up the world and all, but the truth is they did have their own struggles, and they fought a lot of fights and made a lot of innovation that helps us today. and to be honest, the world started to get messed up way earlier in time. I may not understand the struggle, but I know what older generations had to go through and I appreciate everything. I love this show so much and i love how it takes me back in time. I can’t say how many times I’ve listened to this performance, both alone now, and with my beloved late husband in the past. Each of us shivered with goosebumps and cried at the end. He is now living the impossible dream and has reached that star. I’ll never forget how we connected during this song. Jim was one of the most undervalued singers of all time. He was head and shoulders above Frank Sinatra, Elvis Presley, Robert Goulet and hundreds of others known as the best. He truly was the best. RIP Jim, you lived the impossible dream for real.

Their styles were different. They both had great voices. Elvis sang with such emotion. Jim's voice was so pure. When I lived in Texas years ago, I read an announcement in the newspaper of a society wedding. The bride's godfather sang during the ceremony, and that man was Jim Nabors. Lucky girl and lucky people at the wedding!

The first time I heard Jim Nabor sing I couldn't believe it. The way he always talked and to sing so beautiful was amazing. He was a very intelligent man and great actor. So sad so many of the great TV actors are gone from this time of great TV series. 😢

Heard many male versions, but Jim's rendition of this famous and inspiring song, by far the best. Particularly so restrained and so dignified. And still managed to unleash such incredible force of power. Always is my favourite version. I have to say there are great versions of The Impossible Dream out there, many renowned and some even legendary singers. But Jim, often played as the sort of dim wit, slow but likable, character. The one in the shadow of the lead actors and stars. But on this occasion, Jim was the great, the lead, the legendary and the absolute star. RIP so sad back then, you never had the freedom to truly live. Caspa. Love you Jim.
