To the US: A day without hypocrisy is a day wasted

The US State Department's do-nothing stance toward Gonzalo doesn't surprise me. Remember, Julian Asange is an Australian citizen and yet the Australian government did nothing to help a fellow citizen. The West has shown you cannot rely on them if you get into trouble in another country. They have abandoned us.

Our American government is filled with dishonorable cowards.

As a Veteran, I am so disgusted with our government's lack of effort to get him released. Clearly Ukraine is doing the wishes of the USG.

Free Gonzalo Lira. Free Julian Assange. Free all of the people unjustly denied their rights and who are illegally and immorally incarcerated.

Sadly its not just Ukrain who locks people up for speach. Many EU countrys do the same. Here in Germany you can go to jail if you openly or on the Internet stand with Russia. The paragraphs are so vague that you never know when you break the law or be in a grayzone. Best wishes to Gonzalo.

This is not only happening in Ukraine but overhere (The Netherlands) happens the same. The only difference is people are not being send to labour camps for a lenghty period. Dissonant voices are being silenced by all means. They are also considering to ban certain policital parties. Very serious concern.

I will continue to pray for Gonzalo. I am not surprised about the American Government actions. The American Government has left people behind for years. They left my dad in Indonesia after their American sponsored regime change. Jack Lemmon played the dad in the movie Missing based on a true story about an American Jewish kid from NY who was killed and tortured. If you can find the movie it is worth watching. That was in Chile. My dad was half Brit and worked for a Saudi Arabian whose oil was seized. The British got him out. I was and still hope Gonzalo will have the happy ending my dad had. Nixon was President when the Americans betrayed my dad and the kid from NY portrayed in the movie Missing. I don't believe in the American System of Government anymore as they don't have any honor or truth. Nixon or Biden, one a Republican and the other a Democrat both are corrupt who allow or give the order to torture Americans who they don't like. No crimes committed but their dirty deals are more important than the lives of Americans caught between a rock and hard place. Their is no Representation by anyone in the American Government for the PEOPLE WHO THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO REPRESENT. I had decided if Gonzalo doesn't make it I will make my opinion known to the Government. Letters they file in the trash cans and phone calls they give you lip service and lie to you. I remember the 60's and the protests by the youth against the Vietnam War. Kent State was where 4 college students were killed by the Government under Nixon in 1970. I was 12. I am 65 now and walk with a cane but I will protest if people are willing to have a peaceful protest for Gonzalo. If enough people were to show up for the event than they can't ignore us. We need to start making our voices known that how The Biden Administration has treated Gonzalo Lira, an American citizen will not be tolerated. Biden wants to win reelection so if people were to protest that wouldn't look good for the Biden Administration. All of us who have had family treated like Gonzalo must be willing to fight for him. I will help in whatever way is needed to help bring Gonzalo home to his family in safety. His dad in Chile must be worried as I was worried as a kid about my dad. It leaves an emotional scare knowing that your own GOVERNMENT, THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, doesn't care about the American citizens they swore an oath to defend. Sorry for the long post but Gonzalo Lira's case reminded me of my dad. Oh God please let Gonzalo have an happy ending like my dad. Please keep him safe. We must not let the Biden Administration lie to us or sweep Gonzalo under the rug as they do.

It's been reported by Mark Sleboda, a close associate of Gonzalo, that he was stopped by the SBU at the Hungarian border. No one has heard from him for 24 hours or knows his whereabouts. We fear his worst nightmare has happened. This is totally outrageous. The Ukranian gov't is out of control and deeply sick.

I have followed Gonzalo from long before he emerged as a political commentator. He is a good guy and deserves all the support he can get.

Thank you for covering this. And you are quite correct in your assessment of Gonzalo's situation. Gonzalo's story of his arrest and treatment is very believable and consistent with everything else we know (but is not admitted by the US & allies). Whether he was wise to speak so publicly against the Ukrainian regime is arguable, but the fact is, we (the West) are claiming that we are supporting Ukraine to "protect democracy". Gonzalo's only "crime" has been to speak out and refuse to be intimidated, even in the face of threats and torture, and a very real risk of death. Don't bother about Amnesty International - these days they don't care about political prisoners or human rights abuse, only about supporting the mainstream agenda & its popularised issued. We can still hope he is ok - but Gonzalo himself has said that if he disappears, please make sure he is not "memory holed", in other words, forgotten (along with his courageous stance against hypocrisy and tyranny).

To all the commentators who criticize Gonzalo for having released videos and documents before attempting to cross the border: I remind you that at that moment he did not know what would become of his life. To those videos and documents he entrusted his hope of not being abandoned and forgotten, perhaps forever. If you don't get it either, then you're not as smart as you think you are.

He wants to be remembered and wants help from all of us, that’s why he did the recording, he even said so in the end of his recording.

The last thing he should do is go to any NATO country, including the USA. Law doesn’t apply for the neocons. They would send him back to Ukraine to his death or would make him an enemy of the state. I hope he is a clever man and everything he recorded (which could be seen by Ukrainian authorities) is a lie and he tried an alternative way, be it to Russia or Belarus. I know that it was Scott Ritter who came with those accusations, I believe that he made a common mistake that many clever and highly professional people do - they believe that the rest of people are also clever and highly professional, he overestimates rationality of SBU that´s why he came to such conclusion. And Gonzalo himself is no James Bond, just regular person, who can be naive, scared and make mistakes (I always thought that he shold run from this f..king pseudo-country, not sit there and make such videos

I have watched Gonzalo on + off since 2017 ... he was previously known as Coach Red Pill, he was always very wise with economic and political power. He is the ultimate contrarian, however much one disagrees with him he is alway thoughtful and I cannot imagine he would be an obedient enough to act on behave of any state.

I don´t think he made it across the border. The lack of news is a bad omen. Had he succeeded, he most certainly would have posted something from within Hungary. His 3 videos, while they represent a record of all this, will have no doubt alerted the SBU, who were monitoring his channels. It may have been yet another bad idea by Lira, together with staying in Ukraine after the first arrest, and knowing all too well who and what he is dealing with. These banderites will stop at nothing. There are no values, no morals, no laws that they aren´t willing to break in order to further their cause. It is sad that after 80 years, yet again we see nazism take root and fester within a nation.

When I saw Gonzalo's video yesterday I was relieved. I regard him as one of the most intelligent and forthright people. But I think he lacks a sense of self-preservation. Firstly, Living in ukraine and making videos against the most corrupt and vilest government will get one into trouble. Secondly doing so in public is tantamount to become a sitting duck. There is an african saying that, "one who shows up everywhere will one day look for a place to hide" is apt. Yesterday's videos could have been made later after he had escaped the country but not him and if he is arrested I bet it will be the last to see him. I pray this is not the case

US Official was really saying "basically I don't give a damn and can't be bothered to discuss it and the 'perhaps' thing is the excuse I'll use to not talk about it" Disgusting.

People please don't ever give up, don't yield to the discouragement tactics thrown at you. Constantly call up your representatives, relevant embassies, regional and national news media. Constantly ask questions and ask what they are doing about it. Make sure to record or make notes of your interactions. Tell others so that they too can contact these peoples.

It makes no sense to publish the video and tweets while still in Ukraine territory as the SBU is tracking him.

I agree, Gonzalo Lira, if being held hostage and behaving under duress is a gross human rights violation. The accusers of Lira saying he is willingly an SBU agent without any evidence are writing him off. He has the presumption of innocence. They may be blaming the victim. Lira can't prove a negative to baseless assertions that he is willingly acting as an agent or asset of the SBU. If he is being coerced that dosn't help his detractors, it makes their case even worse. The conspiracy theory that Lira is a witting SBU agent is playing into Ukraine's hands. It is disgusting.
