Aww 🥹 My grandma was a very strict Baptist missionary. When I transitioned at 23yo, I honestly didn’t even tell her, as she lived in another state so I didn’t see her often anyways, and I had no idea what her response would be. Well, someone else in the family told her lol, and she reached out to me. She told me….she loved me no matter what, and that I’m the “captain of my own ship” and that my decisions are between me and God alone. It was so unexpected and made me cry 😭 She told me she didn’t know if she and my grandpa could make the pronoun switch just because they’re old and forgetful, and I said that was ok. Later, I heard through the grapevine that she had begun ALWAYS using the right pronouns for me, even when I wasn’t around. She died suddenly a couple of years ago. We hadn’t spoken in awhile, but she had called recently, and I randomly called her back on a Sunday night even though I almost waited until the next day. Later that night is when she became nonresponsive. Our conversation wasn’t long, but I was the last person to talk to her so it was very special. Anyways. Yay for older people being flexible and putting love above habit!! Also the Holy Spirit spilling your tea had me cackling 😂 But for real, sometimes they’re more perceptive than we think.

They/them is also used when you dont know a persons gender (also without the context of lgbtq), as they are gender neutral pronouns. Many nonbinary people use them for example.
