Thank you thank you thank you! I am 53 years old and i worked out every week up until three years ago. I fell into a depression. I need my right hip totally replaced. I am waiting on getting good insurance and i have been so afraid of the surgery. Thank you for helping me come to terms that this does not mean i am old. It means i was active and still will be. Thanks. :D

I had my hip replaced at 73 just over a year ago ( feb2022) I too was not ready to hear the surgeon say I need a new hip. I had never had an operation and I’m a retired RN. My left hip surgery was a life saver, I was home the second day. Climbing stairs. No pain at all now. I had a friend stay with me for 2 weeks to get me over the hump. Recommend the surgery

Thank you for sharing Lara. I'm one of the under 50 who needs a replacement. I canceled my surgery date of July 2021 out of intense fear because a knee replacement is what injured my hip. I don't want to relive that pain and 6 years of not recovering. I am now at the point where it cannot be ignored. The pain is intense all of the time and I can't even stand up long enough to dress myself without having drilling, deep tissue and nerve pain. I'm rescheduling my surgery asap.

I just read your post about you cancelling your surgery. My advice to you: Talk to your friends and family about it to see if they support your decision and be in your corner if you do have the surgery. This will build your confidence level for you to go through with it. It works.

@@sarcasticallyrearranged I just had my THR done. Ask for spinal and general anesthesia. You have to specifically ask the anesthesiologist prior to surgery. You wake up feeling paralyzed but it’s loads better than waking up to a 9+ pain level. Get your home arranged as a rehab center. Stock up on your favorites. And put everything at waist level if you can. You’ll remember quite quickly if you think that you can pick something off the floor. Pain is an excellent teacher. It’s scary. I almost backed out of it. Cuz it’s painful AF. Don’t let anyone tell you that it ain’t. But I jumped thru too many hoops to cancel the procedure. Wanted to get in before some other viral infections engulfs the world. Good luck to you, truly. ✌🙏

Hey! I just found this video... It was emotional for me because of how relatable it is. I'm 24yo and will have my left hip totally replaced in 2 weeks time. I was only 14 when I diagnosed and even after a few surgeries through the years I'm still in pain. I was a rhythmic gymnast, I was active, I was young. Why it happened? I'm yet to know. Yes, I'm a bit scared of doing this; yes, I understand it will wear out way sooner than if I had it done on my 40's... But no, I don't want to live in pain; no, I don't want to have to do nothing for a whole for a week to be able to go for a 1h walk with friends; no, I don't want to take extra pain killers during winter because even being too cold affects my hip; no, I don't want to keep having a leg shorter than the other; no, I don't want to reject invites because 'I won't be able do it'. I know it sounds a bit dramatic but these little things make other situations in life so much more bearable. If there's a solution, I want to go for it. I want a better lifestyle. Am I gonna be able to walk like a regular person? Am I gonna be ale to keep my balance on my foot? Am I going to be able to run with my 14yo sister? Then bloody yes! Yes I want to have the hip replacement! If only I had a £1 for every person that asked "aren't you too young for that?"... Well, is anyone to young to live comfortably in their body? I really appreciate videos like this. Also thank you for reading so far :)) I hope you don't have to go through something like this but in case you did go through it, are going or will go... I feel you're pain. Keep your head up and keep fighting. Keep focusing on how easier it will be to do your daily task, playing with kids, having fun, enjoying the company of loved ones! Focus on the positives. You can do it.

I had my right hip replaced at 47. I am 63 now. I had bone on bone, dysplasia of the hip as a child with a chronic dislocating hip growing up as a teen. It was the best thing I have ever done. I honestly had minimal pain in my recovery. The pain before was so much worse than after the surgery. I did what my doctors told me to do, did my PT religiously and I healed well. My hip replacement is still perfect, right in place. I had to walk with a cane for 4 months before I could get the surgery. I was so ready.

I am now waiting for clearance from Primary doc, dentist etc...to finally get scheduled for hip replacement. All I can say is I'm terrified...but looking forward to being able to walk without pain. I went for my complete right hip surgury April 5 just a few days ago, I had it done by an excellent dr, my hip was a mess and they put a protessee planted in cement Of course the first day was horrid! My operation was at 9:45 am and it took about 2.5 hrs By the time I came up to my room , I remember nothing but pain ! But with good meds by supper time I was sitting up and eating a sandwich, they didn’t get me out of bed till Saturday walking with walker, I’m a big baby and this was amazing , put full weight on it and you have to use walker carefully! Always think this , bad foot moves first, good leg second and take small steps , don’t try to rush, everyone has different experiences with the meds and operation, I was one of the lucky ones, I got home Sunday, taking my meds, I find it a bit nerve wracking but hubby is here with me, and I follow all instructions, it’s a process to heal but be patient, I had been in so much pain and this was the best thing I could of done, follow the excerises given, don’t do what you can’t and when you home they want you to walk, never sit or sleep all day! Bc I’m the hospital they have you up and they want you to do normal , fir me I’m still nervous but I was one of the lucky ones where the meds gave me no issues and I need them for at least 6-8 weeks, hope everyone has s ok! Patience is the key!

TOTALLY MY FEELINGS at 53 active I was shocked and cried for days! I'm now double Hippie within 4 months.. left hip was first then during recovery I was told I over compensated and will need the right done at anytime.. while off and recovering from my left I went ahead and did the right. The right started bothering me like fast. I completely stopped working out. Gained weight it totally affected my life...I couldn't walk without excruciating pain

I watched the operation as my Mum had , had a hip replacement and was curious , " HUGE " mistake and here I am 2 hip replacements later wishing I had not watched it I never thought I would be needing one as I was always active and moving , well moved or so I thought .....but after sweating while waiting for both ( 2 yrs apart ) I promised myself I would watch the whole operation to see what I had gone through " twice " as I could'nt do jack about it now. It's been 3 weeks since my last bionic bits added , pretty much doing everything around the house ( limping and with one elbow crutch ) but doing it anyway . To my way of thinking get it working so the muscles and tendons grab that foreign object and make it part of me....I'm 62 yrs old and yes I feel sorry for myself as I do limp but it's improving daily.....so life goes on...

This video is very inspiring and I’m in my early forties and will have an anterior THR soon, but as far as it being a genetic predisposition, or “you were born that way” like what some orthopedists like to say is BS, some doctors like to label and categorize. Some people do have hip dysplasia and some it’s just wear and tear, it’s not always genetic. Sometimes the cartilage gives way, and you will only know after you feel the pain. But by then it’s already bone to bone. Luckily from what I hear today the orthopedist surgeon can restore the active lifestyle of many people thru THR. And yes thank god we can google and you tube to gain knowledge unlike in the eighties one had to resort to the library/encyclopedia etc to gather info lol. God bless everyone that do decide to have surgery along with a successful outcome. Good luck and god bless you in your surgery Lara and thank you for being an inspiration to others! :-)

My hip replacement surgery is scheduled for April 24th. I was also genetically disposed to this. My femur was not round but oval shaped and has worn away at the cartilage of the socket. @@svonkie, To answer your question, NO it did not work the first time around. I had to have a second surgery six months later, and although that one worked as far as the hip (or seems to have), a tool they used during the surgery snapped in half and traveled in my leg. It took them 7 hours and three surgeons to find and remove it. 😳 I am still recovering from that. If I had it to do over again, I would have done a total hip.

I have been active my whole life, and in my head I have always said I am 27, so I was just as surprised as she when I began having all of my replacements. And I feel embarrassed about it! I have had both knees, shoulders and hips done but I continue to play tennis, ski, cycle etc. Most recently I had to have another replacement surgery (called a revision) on my right hip - UGH! Here I go again with rehab! But over the years surgical procedures have greatly improved, and I was able to come home the day of my most recent surgery which was (of all times) December 24, 2019.

My range of motion & strength improves greatly everyday. I was suffering for far too long. I’m so thankful I made the decision to move forward with the hip replacement. But then down the line l too took those shots it worked okay for a little while but this is the difference l have Osteoarthritis in both Hips need hip replacement for BOTH and l have it in both knees and my lower spine too no known surgery for these parts my doctor has only said my hips will need surgery but it’s in my knees but l don’t need surgery on my knees as of now a lot of the pain l feel is traveled down from the hips but there’s NO need to have any surgery on them thank God. And l will not have any surgery on my spine to Afraid of that so l will just take my medication and l’m at bone on bone NOW l’m doing test to hopefully have my surgery real soon this year. I went from walking but in pain still taking the medication going to work then down the line the pain just grow sooo intense it seems daily then starting with one cane then two canes and now a walker. For outside l use it for stability l don’t want to fall and hurt myself more then l’m already hurting and mess up my pretty faces. Lol ! But l just pray to God when the time comes for me to have the surgery’s it will all go well me my son is the best in the WORLD to me he’s there for me if l need him so god has to make this successful he’s my only child he 25 just turned that in September he has half brother and sister my husband had 2 when we married but we aren’t together but still married and he’s even come over to see me a few times and done things for me and l appreciate it cause he didn’t have too but where good. But l’m Scared to death but l have no choice it’s a must,..so l just pray for a successful surgery an another chance at happiness.and having Full Mobility again just on my own. Thank You 🙏🏽

I really needed to see this.... I am at the point where I can barely walk. My leg gives out. I went to a surgeon a couple of years ago who said I was too young at 48 and wouldn't do it. He wanted me to get to a point where it interrupted my life. I am there now... I was an avid ballroom dancer and now, I cannot walk without assistance. I would say, it's time.... As far as mental, I have been depressed. I don't work out like I used to because I am not weight bearing on the joint. I was into yoga and now, cannot do any of the hip opening poses. So, the things that made it bearable are no longer available to me... I go to see the surgeon on Tuesday and I am eager for some resolution on this. I was scared of the surgery but now the pain and immobility outweighs the fear, at this point.. Thanks for speaking out. It makes me feel more encouraged!

At 73 I lost weight, worked out and had a total knee replacement on left leg. It has changed my entire life and not for the better. 14 months after going through hell, nine months of PT. I was in the reception area of the indoor community pool, for exercising my knee, when I tripped on a mat and broke the femoral neck of the same leg !! Knee has gone from a very hard fought for 95 degrees bend to 75 degrees. I refused to have a hip replacement and instead have 3 huge screws in there. I’ve been told I may yet need hip replacement. No way, no way, no way. I’m 75 in two days and did everything I could to improve the knee. PT said I’m in great shape for my age, but now my mobility is forever changed. Also, a femoral neck break can be LETHAL for up to a year post op. I went from super active to nearly crippled. Think long and hard - exercise, get shots. Do all possible to avoid orthopedic surgery for arthritis. The constant pain has worn me down. I have PTSD from that. Golden Years…..a joke.

Thank you for sharing your story. I have bone on bone hip arthritis which has impacted my walk but- not having surgery doesn’t open me up to a lifetime of infections , surgical pain , foot drop , heteroptic ossification and other issues . Great advice hope you are doing better

@@intensivemanagement it’s been another year. My hip screws/surgery was SO much easier. I was walking with full weight in 6 weeks. The knee still is painful if I toss & turn at night, however I’m doing stairs better. I can walk as much as five miles in a day. It took forever and I’m still not glad I did it, but it’s getting easier to deal with. Great news is the other knee will be ok with just injections. Last year was just an all around bad year. I lost my 23 yr old grandson and I was very depressed. Things have become much more manageable. Good luck and thanks.

I had my R hip replaced also and my L hip is now mimicking the same pain. I did go see a DR and was told that I needed a L THR. But right now I am taking intense Osteo Fx which has reduced the pain. But we shall see this year to see what happens.

I remember seeing this interview a few years ago and I said to myself boy she knows exactly what I am going through I have held this from my friends and my family for so many years over 15-20 years I have dealt with pain walk different and everybody in my family just kept saying when are you going to get it done and I kept saying I'm not well I got it done I have had a few accidents I have fallen on the same right hip twice on the ice just when I decided to have it done a whole bunch of other personal things came up with my apartment being renovated I have to stay in the hotel I am getting therapy in a hotel when I go back to my apartment it's going to be so different I'm not going to be able to move around this is very hard for me but I know looking at this interview again so many years after I know I can make it and it is hard but I'm making it and I'm glad that I made the decision I'm 65 and I have always been working out physical I am 59 a hundred and thirty-nine pounds and I'm planning on wearing my heels after this it's going to be awhile but I'm going to do it and I know that with God's help on my side I'm going to do it I love watching Laura and she was an inspiration but I kept it to myself for a long time like she said it was very embarrassing now people might say it was because of my age because I waited so long I needed this 20 years ago and I never did anything about it it's done thank you God

I prevented this surgery and regenerated my collagen building as I did hot yoga and strengthen my joints. Ultimate I lubricated my joints and as an athlete you have to do that constantly. I simply ate more good fats and built collagen and cartilage
