I am also a retired carpenter- mechanic. I always planned for my retirement . I wanted to do small things like trellises, planter boxes. I made up a sign - chain saw sharpening, lawnmower blade sharpening. I am now busier than I was before retirement. HA HA HA! Yesterday I sharpened 30 chains and 5 lawnmower blades, Helped my wife install garden boxes - that I made and went to play music with my new found friends. I think I need a nap. All the best Ken on your retirement! Don't sit down and relax too much - It will come back and bite you. Keep busy and enjoy yourself. Greetings from Perth Ontario Canada!

Hey Ken! Love hearing the good news and very excited to hear about your new project. Just a suggestion for your tiny house; Because your trailer walls aren't very high, why not just span entirely over the rails with 2×4's and hollow box frame to your skids/trailer floor underneath? This would be a much stronger assembly, plus provide a great storage and/or mechanical space under the floor as well as maximize the main interiors actual floor area. It would only raise the door a step or two. Or option 2 ; Put some temporary 6×6's, 8×8's or rail road ties under your ski's, which you could also upsize to 4x6's to gain height.

A steel L angle iron skelton frame with the wood structure would insure a well built unit that would last a long time, perhaps pulling it off the trailer for an intended anchor cement lock down for emergency shelter/work shop, just an idea is all.😊

@imtheonevanhalen155720 күн бұрын
Hey Ken, instead of the added complexity to the flooring/wall sections to fit the trailer, why not build a platform on the trailer to clear the rails? It would end the problem, be reusable, and add floor space. I had an enclosed car hauler like yours years ago for a drag car. The problem with them was you couldn't open the door once inside because of the trailer wheel boxes. The solution everyone used was removable door......it was a pain in the $%#$%#^$#$%. It dawned me one day if I placed a couple of 2x8's on the floor, it would lift the car the three inches needed to clear the wheel boxes.

I guess this tells me I've spent too much time watching KZfaq videos, when I have outlasted a channel I loved to watch. Also, you should come up with some kind of metal connector for those cantilevers on the trailer house. The plywood will not likely hold, especially when you transport it.

I planned on selling it soon, but now, thanks to this video, I may convert it to a mobile cabin, to move around my property as I see fit. Down by the lake, up near the pond, out in a field, buried in the woods... Not to be used as a B&B, but for when family and friends visit. They can pick the location. It looks like you could put some 2x6s up from just next to the door, to the top plate of the studs on the diagonal. That would take most of the roof load off the little cut-in just above the trailer rails. Using some thick siding on the front and back would help, too. Maybe at the installation site, put some concrete blocks under the overhang once it's location is fixed, with wedges to help hold up the side walls.

Ken , we can see your keeping busy in your retirement, and thats good. But this building a building on a trailer, I have to ask why? Building the sidewalls as you plan are going to be difficult to make strong to endure the weight and stress on them. Why not build it as you would normaly and make it fit between the rails on the trailer? Or get a flatbed trailer? Also I would use ( 4 ) 4 x 4 runners and cut a 1" x 45 degree chamfer on the bottom edges on both ends. Also drill a 1 1/2" dia hole in each one about 8" back from each end. Then you can put a steel bar thru them and hook a cahin on it to pull the building on and off the trailer and to the final location. Thats the way I built several LARGE shipping boxes for a local business and it worked great. Good luck on this project.

Hello friend, good evening, I love you very much because of the great talent that your age has. I have a question. I am building a cabin in Tennessee and the roof is made of metal and I put the panel mounting on the right side. I wanted you to please measure if it can work and I am still worried. and thanks

The items that you have sold will be happily used by whoever has purchased them.

Hi Ken, just back to the channel after some time away so I may have missed some things. Are you retiring? I see you selling equpiment and doing other projects at your house there.

A few months ago I did a video talking about the next chapter in my life. No more employees basically working around the shop.

How do you calculate weight out of curiosity? Is there a chart or formula.
@kenskarpentry19 күн бұрын
I look online at what each item typically weighs and then add it up

Ken I wish you were UK based as I’d of had that bigger power centre off you in a minute I’ve been trying to decide what make to go for but the price on that one of yours would of had me decided lol. I don’t see you ever taking retirement from work may be they used to be a bit bigger and took 3men to build they are now a manageable 1 man build and a bit more time but they will be just as good and well made. Even all these electric bikes that they keep asking you to promote are a good way of killing your time for a buck or 2😂😂😂😂
