Hi Sdotkerlin. Thanks for watching and sharing the kind words. We greatly appreciate it. You can certainly go with upgrading your speakers first. With the JBL system, it's probably the best first step. It's one you would do anyway. I'm not sure what speakers come in those so I would pop one out and take a look at them to start with. Always start with what your budget is first. I know Kicker has a full 8 speaker plug and play upgrade kit that quite a few people like. That's the simplest route in my opinion. The question over coax vs components, that will depend on your listening preference and your desire to modify as the tweeters will need to be mounted as well compared to how the coaxs are just one speaker. Components also tend to be more expensive. I love Skar. For the money, they are tough to beat. I have them in 2 cars, and have also installed them in my Harley when I had it. For coax or components, you don't need to worry about the ohms on them. Only when using an amp. Hope that helps. Come back and let us know when you went with. Stay safe out there!

Hi Perry, thanks for watching and asking. We appreciate it. Although I do like their door speakers, I kept them because it was cheaper to do so. If you're buying new and you have a choice of just the door speakers or another brand, it would come down to how much they're charging just for the door speakers. There are some great quality components out there that could also be good alternatives depending on the bottom line...cost.

OEM Audio sucks! Extremely overpriced for what you get. Go with Alpine or a similar brand instead.

@@SpiritedWrenchers yeah sorry, so the new oem plus set ups have an additional amp only for the the 8 inch oem plus sub. I believe the amp is 500 watts. What I’m asking is if you think there is anyway to pretty much just swap the oem sub with the skar sub without having to install a different amp, directly using the same wires that connect to the oem plus sub

@@carlosskrr Thank you for clarifying that. It certainly helps. Well, that would depend on what the impedance of sub amp they have. If you could get the impedance of the OEM+ sub, then you can buy the proper sub to match that amp and swap them out. Hope that helps.

@htxb dude. You're definitely one of my people. The late 80s-90s. The mini-truckin and Miami bass Era. Such a great time. Our 4Runner is definitely one of the smaller systems I've had.
