I know this is old, but just one question. Is this method considered better (or more accurate) than just using the scaling command? What I usually do is import the image at any scale, and then scale a length on the imported image to match a length between the same two points in google earth. Usually this gets me pretty close and I can eyeball it into place over the default bing aerial that Autodesk generates for drawing coordinate system. This seems to require a little bit more time so I'm wondering if there is an obvious benefit to accuracy.

You don’t need to do this. You can easily sign into autocad and then georeference yourself in autocad to bring up images in the background. This process is too lengthy and not accurate for designing. For concepts to get a general idea yes but this isn’t the best tutorial

I appreciate your effort. I really do BUT you have made a critical error. You cannot enter Longitude and Latitude coordinates from google MAP nor Google Earth directly to AutoCad because they are not distance coordinates on a 2D plane, basically it is a projection of a sphere. You need to transform the projection to a local 2D projection. You can use it on AutoCad 3D Map or search for a grid system register / calculator. There are free versions online for this task. You need to choose a local grid system suitable to that country. Basically a sphere cannot be flattened out to a circle without distorting some areas. Your coordinates are from a sphere projection and you did flatten them out on this tutorial. None of the coordinates will match. Nor will the scale be correct. I dont mean to be rude bro. I had to learn the hard way myself and did 3 days full time research to identify a useful grid system and found the correlation to Google Maps DD "coordinat" (read angular) system. *Edit:* I did same mistake as you also at first ;) this works for visual presentation or for drawings that do not need to be placed correctly on a world map :p You have awesome tutorials btw =)
