You asked, and I delivered: How Geeky Faye (now Allie!) does their 3D Printing Time Lapses! In this video you'll find a full breakdown of my process, as well as what I use to accomplish it, and why I chose to do things the way I do.
Of course I did not invent this wheel, I'm simply adding to the myriad of ways available to accomplish this remarkable feat of clever technology!
❗A few additional notes of things left out of the video!❗
-- The Fujifilm X-T10, being an older camera, is obviously no longer available to purchase in most places. That said, I still definitely recommend it if you want to buy old stock or a used one. There is a newer model available now, which I've linked to in the affiliate links.
-- Even though I do not use Octolapse for my time lapse creation, I still use Octoprint for my printer management, including printing my time lapse prints! It is a great tool and I highly recommend it.
-- The little nub on the end of the Poking Stick is just a little silicone sticker foot, like you would put on the bottom of something heavy to keep it from damaging your floors. That's it!
-- You MUST use a dummy battery and DC Coupler with your camera (like the one listed in the affiliate links) when you shoot your time lapse, or else your battery will undoubtedly die part way through and interrupt your time lapse. A DC coupler lets you effectively run the camera off of mains power!
-- A decent tripod for the camera is quite important as you want your time lapse to be stable and not fall over easily! My tripod has thus far proved to be Cat Proof.

I know I am a little late on this thread, but I gotta say this is one of the most informative 3D printing videos EVER!!! Sorry Uncle Jessy and 3D printing Nerd, your channels are a wealth of knowledge too. lol My first time seeing this kind of time lapse was with Wildrosebuilds and that was mesmerizing. I am going to start playing around with this stuff more!! Thank you!!

That was fun and informative! For folks that don't have a 3D printer that they want to shoot time lapses of, intervalometers are available for most cameras that have a port for a remote camera shutter release, or if you're very lucky the feature is built into the camera. Your set up is a brilliant solution for setting the interval to be a physical event, such as when the print head is out of frame. Thanks for sharing! Cheers from BC!

Very great instructions. My setup idea is very similar but works with a simple endstop and octolapse. With octolapse you don´t need to do any G-code changes. But the poking is also needed for my setup. The tips about lighting and camera setup are very helpful.

Just remember: DSLR's have a shutter life. They make fantastic timelapses. But only last between 40K and 200K triggers for the typical camera. One timelapse can be 5K photos..... I've shot some that were 30K.
