Nene is an elderly female gorilla. These days, her son Kiyomasa and granddaughter Annie sometimes take the meal she holds in her hands.
The only person who looks after Nene with devotion is her daughter Ai.
The bond between mother and daughter is strong.

Yes, Nene is getting up there in age (51). I will be saddened the day she leaves us. She's lived a good long life. We don't know, but all we can hope is she'll be with us for many more years.💖

I hope the keepers are keeping close watch on Nene to make sure she is getting enough to eat, and is protected now she is old.

Kiyo snatches food from his mother often. He needs to go. He's mated with all 3 females now and the zoo is lucky there weren't any gross little incest babies made. Japan needs to do better with their zoo's. Send Gentaro and Kiyo to a bachelor group, move Haoko's daughters in with Monta.

There's no need to be sad she isn't. There is more than enough food to go around. Nene would happily give food to her son, which she did and didn't seem bothered. She lets Shabani take food for hierarchy reasons, as she knows that's the way it works.

Why are the Keepers allowing this to continue! If anyone treated my elderly Mom this way .....I would be handing out throat punches . 🤬😤😡😠 Protect this Beautiful soul !!! I don't care if it's humans, animals or silverbacks this is Senior Abuse!! Poor Beautiful soul.

Poor Nene can't even get enough food to sustain her,it's always stolen from her by the bully son,it's hard enough having no teeth,being old and arthritic to then have your food taken is not fair on aging Gorilla females in all zoos,they are always the target.Nene should be fed separate to the rest of them,twice now she has had a handful taken from her,so sad,she has to eat too

Já tá na hora da Nene parar de ficar protegendo seu filho que rouba a comida dela!! Eu realmente não consigo entender ela... eu gosto dela ela é fofa e tem um casaco lindo e é pequena. Sempre ouço dizer que as gorilas fêmeas gostam dos machos que criam os filhos e brincam, mas com Nene parece diferente!! Ela não é boa para o Shabani, ela não deixa a coitada da Ai em paz sobre relacionamento com o Shabani e isso me deixa triste!!! Todos da tropa gosta dela até mesmo a Annie que já fui muito legal com ela. O comportamento de Annie irritar a sua avó deve ter muitos motivos, talvez chamar atenção??? Ou se vingar de uma maneira??? Nunca saberemos. Obrigado por trazer vídeos da família Shabani 🙋‍♀️❤❤.

The wall licking could possibly mean that Nene is lacking something in her diet that she needs. They should supplement her with some micronutrients and vitamin B complex to see if that helps her.

@@lizzyyork😂Well if she’s hungry she’s aware that she needs vitamins and minerals even is she doesn’t know it consciously. She’s definitely licking windows due to stress from hunger. Zoos have to do better by animals that they profit from for our amusement. I feel bad watching them fo’ free!

Nene once again has food taken from her hand! This time by her son kiyamoso . Whenever Shabani is near, she looks absolutely terrified. I wonder about the quality of life she has?

A particularly heartbreaking video sequence this is.. I have seen it before of course. Even Nene herself, snatching food right out of the hands of her still infant child Kio who was enjoying it so much. Must say i hated her for that for a while, old food snatching harpy ! ;-) But this i find even more heartbreaking. Old Nene grabbing some food together, carefully walking away from Shabani because she knows what's coming. And then getting all her strenght still left in her together to climb the tower, obviously to enjoy her food in a quiet corner, and here comes her grey back to be son who she loves so much just to snatch her carefully saved precious food away from her again ! Mind you, i love gorillas and particularly the Shabani and Momotaro families but this kind of food snatching characteristic makes me almost think twice if i really love 'em....

This and kiyomasa mating with all the females is mostly the reason I do not watch this troop much at least Genki gets her own food kintaro may try to take it and does sometimes but she will pop him in the mouth like he deserves kiyomasa is too big now he’s a bully. Gentaro grew out of the hurting and screwing mom over stage he is a gentle giant and will be a much better partner and silverback daddy than this mean mfer. And if or when they put kiyo and Gentaro in a bachelor group I can’t wait for Gentaro to put this scared little boy in his place. Whenever shabani disciplines him he’s gotta go cry in his rock corner😂😂😂Gentaro has literally been in fights with Momotaro and still does what he wants doesn’t stay outside and cry about it. I cannot wait seriously when kiyo tries to take gentaros food and he rips him apart. People are going to say ohh it’s just gorilla behavior they take from the weak. If this is a common thing euthanize nene it would be the best thing for her she gets bullied by everyone but ai and the tiny bit of food she gets kiyo takes. I so wish shabani was like Momotaro where if he saw something he didn’t like he actually attacked kiyo everytime then maybe he would learn. Man this troop gets my blood boiling and they have better enclosure and everything yet the Momotaros seem much happier.

I have been saying for a while if they put kyo in a bachelor group he wont lest 5 minutes without mummy there to protect him he only starts something with shabani if his mum is there to protect him

@@user-lz7sw4tt3o I might be wrong about this but I think Kiyo is developmentally delayed. That’s not an insult to him but rather a reason for his actions and his goofy behavior. Maybe the zoo is aware of Kiyo’s limitation? Humans can be born neurodivergent so I think gorillas can be too. Gentaro is a deep thinking dude. I think he has a high degree of emotional intelligence and his early hand rearing with his “surrogate father” the zookeeper is a factor. So, accounting for each of the boys’ individuality, they would have left the natal group in their native habitats. Currently they are stuck with their parents with their raging hormone hormone levels. I think it’s irresponsible on the zoo’s behalf to ignore the biological fact that they are ready to leave their mothers in order to mate but they are not free to do so.
