Considering how strong gorillas are, that's pretty sound advice - especially around a big silverback male. They are the guardians of their troop, and will do whatever they feel is necessary to protect it - and looking one in the eyes makes them think that you're trying to challenge them, which makes them respond accordingly.

Gorillas don't 'just snap'. Don't conflate them with chimps. There's a reason these tours are permitted, but no such foot tours into intimate range with chimp communities exist. @JoseRodriguez-eu5ez4 жыл бұрын
@@durakeno5575 We're talking about wild animals, not ones kept in captivity and being visited by a caretaker that they're accustomed to. You're being broad, and while I do somewhat agree with the dog example, symbiosis is only formed in a case where you need something from one another. As such, it doesn't pertain to the contents of the video. Just think about what you said for a moment..."Different species...". Now tell me how the situation wouldn't go awry were the tourist to have been seen touching the ape? There are a dozen apes surrounding these people...and they're wild. While smart, you'd be defensive if a random person started touching your family wouldn't you? This is the same case. Again, not saying animals can't interact in a friendly manner, but misconceptions are prominent when you don't understand the differences between your species and theirs.

From what I know, aren’t gorillas really chill dudes? They’re mostly neutral and won’t attack unless they feel uncomfortable or they’re attacked first, and even then, they first give a warning so you can escape, they prefer to avoid confrontation but they will kill you if needed so don’t tease them or disturb them, you’re mostly fine around them if you don’t make them uncomfortable.
@Robert-hz9bj2 жыл бұрын
Somewhat, but they are also territorial. They are generally pretty chill, and generally unhostile to non-threatening organisms (vegetarian and all that). But there's no telling what they do or don't find threatening sometimes...

Also tourists are notoriously fickle so I reckon the rules are probably justified. If you are local and have a feel for their temperaments and reactions, you could probably be more flexible, but hey I'm no expert.

I thought that dyde in puple shirt was a female. Btw why do these tourists always wear fruity colors to go to the jungle?

Most likely to just see each other easily. Wearing green or darker colors would make it hard to visually track people

Good point! I've always been told to wear colours that would blend in with nature around me, not make me stick out like a huge bright warning post!

the other reason is, predators use camouflage, by wearing bright colors you are announcing yourself as something other than a predator

@GRAPHENE IS IN THE MASKS, SWABS and PCR TESTS!!! you know that one month where you felt someone was watching you sleep? That was me. I was surveying for prey, and I liked the challenge that you gave me. I knew you saw a glimpse of me once, remember that disfigured shadow that was peeking out the window? You almost caught me! I managed though with an abundance of time and patience, and let's just say that some of the furniture you own aren't actually yours.

This always makes me wonder about the impact of these gorilla tours on the gorillas themselves. Being able to observe and get so close to gorillas is a wonderful thing, but I can only imagine that gal felt comfortable enough with humans to give one a hug then sit in the middle of them is the result of frequent exposure to passing groups of humans. Not saying this should be a reason to stop gorilla tours, just that it's something interesting, possibly worth researching.

I wish the other tour guide didn't break up the "meet and greet". Such a loving moment. The Gorilla didn't even think twice in joining the group, and thinking they are just "one of us". I know interaction should be limited. But, at the same time, they are visiting these "G-units", whenever possible.
