I believe that John Denver had some divine inspiration when he recorded this song.
By the way, this song was composed by J.Williams.
GOSPEL CHANGES Lyrics
The Prodigal Son, he'd been away a while,
he was working his way back home now over many a ragged mile.
When he finally crossed the river and his father saw him near,
there was a joyful sound, for all the world to hear.
I listened to what the Good Book said and it made good sense to me,
talking about reaping what you're sowing, people trying to be free.
Now we've got new names and faces, this time around,
Gospel changes, Lord, still going down.
Jesus, He did not doubt His gifts, though He knew that He had not long to live.
He took care of the business of teaching us how to fly,
then He bowed His head and laid down to die.
Jerusalem I see you standing high,
but if you lose your salvation, there'll be no tears left to cry.
Now some men worship a Golden Calf while others are bought and sold,
and if we live like that, brother we'll pay the toll.

I was in the today, and one of johns songs were playing. It gave me goose bumps. Miss him so much. There has never been, nor ever will be anyone like him again. He was such a gentle soul. Thank goodness for KZfaq, which helps us remember those gentle times.

Listening to John Denver'S music when I was a teenager and young adult, literally saved my life. She abuse at home had gotten so unbearable that I had attempted suicide. It was a failure and as I lay there in the hospital bed listening to a radio a nurse was kind enough to bring me, I heard Country Roads. it " took me away " and as I listened, I felt I was there in the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Shenandoah River. To this day. when I'm feeling sad or depressed, I listen to John's music and I feel better. I thank the Lord for giving us this precious man and his music.

Theresa Bradley wow great story.. myself I was picked on and bullied by a crazy, I mean crazy kid that just tormented me to no end. I heard county roads and I can remember turning up that little radio in the kitchen as loud as it would go, waiting for the song to play.. I couldn't tell my John Wayne type farther that I was being picked on and bullied because I was just to afraid that he would get mad and be hurt that his only son was a coward. I thought about suicide but I got to see John Denver in person just behind the front row right in front of him. It's a long story but the only empty seat in the house was the seat beside me.. I couldn't get a date and I had gotten the ticket by a mirical when this couple had to council.. John saw the seat beside me was empty and he kept looking at me smiling and I was terrified he was going to say something! When he went to do thank God I'm a country boy, he looked at me, winked and said clap your hands! That place went wild and that whole night I had a wonderful time and I never once thought about that bully. A year later I walked into my school and I had grown from 5ft 7inches to 6ft 4inches with my boots on! I could see the fear in that smartass bullies eyes! I could have made his life a living hell, but I just went on my way saying there is a God! And thank him I'm a country boy! True story.. I. Became a pilot because of John Denver. One October night me and my 8yr old son was heading home from a day of flying when I got the news. We was flying a thousand miles from each other but I was in the air when Johns plane went down.. I cried.. I saw John twice in my life but nothing comes close to that life changing concert I saw as a 15yr old in east Tennessee one November night..

@@eddiebarnett2217 , wow! Teresa's story was truly powerful and moving, I had no idea it was going to be topped two seconds later when I read yours... John Denver's music, and the man himself truly were remarkable. I have no story to compare to yours and hers, but the Bible calls us to think about wholesome, good and clean things. This is such a wicked, nasty world, as is my own sin nature, sometimes that's a challenge for me. One of my go-to pure thoughts though are John Denver songs, which are synonymous to me with the beauty of nature, one of my other first thoughts as I try to replace a negative thought with a Godly one.

Many of John Denver's songs are very spiritual and inspirational....not tied to any one faith, but just a love of the one spirit greater than all of us. Your video was awesome and really captured the essence of the lyrics. Very nicely done!

That's why we all need forgiveness. And that is the Good News. I don't know how, but I believe God not only forgives Us, but rectifies the harm we did, when we, with praise & thankfulness (not fear) accept the gift of grace. When we make God's will the focus of our life. When the Golden Rule motivates our actions. Having said that, I confess I still struggle with this too. We have to listen to God's voice. I sometimes listen to my fears, y'know?

I think John was referring to the problems the early Hebrew people of the Old Testament went through. They would repeatedly follow other gods, or forget the promises of Yaweh, God would punish them, they would repent and be restored for a while to the process repeated again. He was talking about the old covenant and not the new one made by Jesus sacrifice on the cross.

This was always one of my favorite songs by John Denver in college, about 45 years ago. I'd forgotten about it until recently, and, at this point in my life, was shocked to hear the out-of-nowhere verse with its harsh proselytization directed at Judaism. Having said that, I honestly don't believe that John Denver was anti-Semitic, so his inclusion of that verse puzzles me. Sadly, he's the only one who could have explained it.
@johnboehmer6683
@johnboehmer6683 4 жыл бұрын
Hmmm... you know he didn't write it, right? Then, to pull a full verse out of it would really shorten and already short song. Maybe you can help me though, I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "harsh" or "anti-Semitic". The words of the verse I'm sure your referring to are, Jerusalem I see you standing high But if you lose your salvation They'll be no tears left to cry Some men worship a golden calf While others are bought and sold And if we live like that Brother we pay the toll... I can only attribute this to nonsense..."but if you lose your salvation" obviously suggests that those in Jerusalem, Israelites, have salvation to potentially lose,, so no slam there. "no tears left to cry" to me suggests a good thing, to have no more tears to cry, but that's if you lose your salvation, which is a bad thing... That doesn't make sense to me. But it sure doesn't seem like a slam on Jewish people. I'm not one, so I could clearly be missing something there.

The Old Testament tells the stories that back up the lyrics and then the New Testament adds to the stories. Start by reading Matthew chapter 23 and I believe you will begin to understand. Christ's personal sacrifice was necessary because of the falling away from His Father's teachings. Was/Is YHWH antisemitic? Of course not. Neither was/is Jesus Christ.
